Boulder Moderate / Hard Map

Great hike in March, icy trails. Came across bears by the river.

Awesome hike. Still icey but fun.

Hiked today 3/20. The trail from the rock steps up was very icy and micro spikes were very helpful. I ran into many people who turned back because of the ice. It’s a great trail and the arch is really nice with great views.
Difficult but definitely worth it.

Hiked in early March, good amount of ice on trails, i had no spikes or poles but easy to avoid if you go from rock to rock, as there are a lot of rocks. Awesome views of the east

My husband and I hiked this trail today. We took Sunshine Trail that linked to the Lions Lair Trail. I am SO glad we started this way.
The hike down from Mount Sanitas should be rated as HARD. Knee high boulders all the way down. If you want to stay on a moderate trail, turn around at the top and go back down to Sunshine Trail. I was sure glad I had my trekking poles to assist my knees with all those rocks!

Fun trail! Nice views looking east through the Gulch. I took the short trail from the Hotel Ruins to the Continental Divide Viewing area. Short hike between those two points. There was a nice, steady incline all the way up.

This was a really fun hike. There were a few icy patches, but overall it was clear. It was challenging because it climbs a lot over low mileage. Great views and the arch is amazing.

Go West way up - beautiful and aerobic - great weather in am today

Huge fan of this trail; it isn’t easy, but it’s very much worth it. Spectacular views and scenery, and it’s not far at all from Boulder. Highly recommended.

An absolutely beautiful trail. We took it up to the Continental Divide Outlook. The views are amazing. There were a few icy patches but nothing to difficult to get through in normal hiking shoes.

This is my go to trail! You get a great view at the top and there’s a metal plate that shows you all the mountain ranges to the west at the top! It starts off easy but gradually gets harder.

The trail is still somewhat icy at the moment. But if you have your spikes, this is a fun, fairly quick hike that will get your heart rate up and reward you with a gorgeous view from the arch at the top.

Trail was very nice. Some ice but you can get around it, also Mud. Towards the end there are rock stairs, so there is a bit of a climb. The summit was very nice, not amazing. Small area once you reach the top so if it's a busy trail day, it will definetely be crowded. I only gave it 3 stars because the summit view was not that impressive, the trail itself was very pretty.

Bunch of switchbacks in the beginning. Very nice hike in the spring. The streams are definitely worth the complete hike

It is a good hike with views along the entire trail. There are many rock formations along the trail where people stop to boulder. It is pretty steep on the way up, but was more gradual on the back side of the mountain. The peak was fairly crowded, even on a Wednesday. Overall I enjoyed the hike.

Awesome hike! Great views, great workout !

Beautiful view! A decent climb. DEFINITELY need to have your spikes with you for some parts. Very icy near the beginning of the Arch trail and just before you get to the Royal Arch. If you have walking sticks or gloves for holding onto rocks etc then I recommend that also. I was very scared of going down but I have never walked on an icy trail/never ice-skated or been skiing so it was a whole new experience for me. Other people were running up and down there - making sure to step on the rocks and dry parts. I’m so glad I did it though.

Spikes needed once you hit the spur to the arch.

Great views! Definitely recommend bringing spikes for some areas.

Royal arches was absolutely stunning. Highly recommend to anyone although be warned it is icy in some spots as of (3/11). Definitely work the trek!

Much steeper and more difficult than expected , but it’s a beautiful hike with wonderful views! Busy trail until you get a bit further out. It’s very steep most of the way up!

Did the trail counterclockwise on 3/10/18. Great trail, not too strenuous but you definitely work. The scenery is varied and gorgeous. Aside from the steps, which had a lot of slush on them, there were no issues with snow or ice.

Easy hike with rewarding views. The trail was a bit icy in some spots but overall it was in good condition.

Trail was beautiful and offered a variety of scenery. It is not marked well, though! There are a number of intersecting paths that are not marked and can be very confusing. We ended up doing a lot of extra miles because of this - which was a great workout but a tad stressful. I would still recommend this trail, though. Very pretty!

3/10/2018 Saturday: The weather has been in the mid-60s this week, and the high was 53 today, so it was a beautiful day for this hike. Despite that, there was a decent amount of ice on this trail and I would HIGHLY recommend microspikes. I only used them on certain portions of the trail, but they were crucial, particularly in the area right below the arch. Everyone who I encountered that day fell and slipped on the ice.

This hike is in Chatauqua Park and there is a large parking lot. There is a map of the area at the trailhead and a ranger station. Even in the off season, I passed about 15 people on this hike and I started at 5pm, so I imagine it is much more heavily used in the spring and summer.

Not so much moderate. More hard. Approaching the loop and heading to the right you have a slight grade for a mile which is deceiving. Boulders ahead! Pretty challenging for me and my Cattle Dog.

An amazing hike but very slippery ice patches

A great way to spend the afternoon. Took us about 3 hours. Great spot to see some foundation ruins from the hotel and nice views of the continental divide. Rock climbers all around. Super close to Boulder/West Arvada

I so enjoyed this amazing journey to find myself. Make sure you don't listen to a sad audio book ;(

I hope you have the day of your life and later enjoy an Ice Cold Mountain Dew. This reminds me of a story I used to tell. I was in the mountains, I saw a bald eagle capture a full grown bobcat. They battled to the death for five full minutes, all the while I was chuggin' LITERALLY the. most. refreshing. Ice Cold beverage I've ever had...ICE COLD MOUNTAIN DEW.

hmu @mountaindew

Unfortunately for me and all of the public of this America, the eagle and his prey escaped into the mist.
