The definitive Boulder workout. One of the first to try if you are only here for a short while!

Tough trail for beginners. Definately a good workout. This is also a very popular trail.

Lots of snow this morning! Make sure you are prepared if hiking in the snow. About half the trail I was second person then almost all of Flagstaff on the way back down was breaking trailhead. Snow ranged from 2-3" to about 8"-10" deep at points. Waterproof boots are a must. I did wear spikes but didn't really need them for the most part. Not a ton of views due to currently snowfall. But there were several spots where it was still very pretty despite minimal views. I would def do this trail again when it isn't snowing. Worth the hike for sure.

Beautiful trail with some nice views near the top. The Flatirons are really cool-looking peaks! The trail is really well maintained and manageable to walk on, even during the steeper points. Lots of switchbacks toward the top made the ascent easier than I anticipated. Only one very brief scrambly section.

We stopped at the very top of the second Flatiron (the trail seemed to peter out a few meters behind it) and came down via Bluebaird Trail. Passed lots of other people in the morning, but no congestion.

Amazing fog this am with snow flakes. Trails dry with friendly people and amazing views. Happy Thursday m8y's Oiiiii

Short and steep, a good workout, with some good views. Not so crowded, but it was a weekday in early November.

Awesome hike. Not overwhelming hard but tough for moderately in-shape folks. Mostly climbing steps. Gorgeous view at the top.

Lots of steps up (45 min) but worth the reward. Easy hike down.

Trail was not super tough. I would highly recommend using spikes. I did not and was fine. Just watch where you’re stepping. Though my wife did use spikes and said she felt much more comfortable coming back down. There was an incident with a dislocated hip. Not sure if it was from a fall or whatnot, but it is better to be safe than sorry. As you get further up trail you run between dry land/rocks and icy areas. The end is def worth the hike up. Just be careful!!!

Awesome hike. Leg burner for sure!

Great views of Boulder. Decently trafficked by people and easy to find the trail. Around the peak it does get pretty rocky so good shoes and sure footing is highly recommended. Haven’t hiked in awhile and did the loop in a 1 1/2 hours with a longer break at the top.

Gorgeous trail. Strongly disagree with the "hard" rating-- it's difficult for a relatively short period of time, so I think it's more in the moderate category. It was actually rated moderate on alltrails until about a month or two ago.. not sure why it was changed.

This trail is short, energizing and has better views than some of the even harder trails in Boulder.

Beautiful trail. well maintained and not much traffic on the trail today because of the cold may be. But the parking lot is full as there are lot of trails starting at the same place. I have parked on a close by street. It snowed a bit while I was there and it was beautiful

not your average trail. stairway to heaven. seemed longer than 3 miles. arch was stunning, view of boulder and denver as well. very crowded. leg burner. loved it. bring toilet paper, i found free parking away from main lot.

If you are going to do this hike as a loop , I would recommend going up Mount Sanitas and returning Sanitas Valley .

Great hike.

A standard for a quick trail running workout in Boulder. Have encountered mud and wasps on the McClintock section in spring, but overall good conditions especially in summer and fall.

My favorite trail in Boulder. I do it several times a year in all different seasons. Traction is definitely a good idea in winter. Can be crowded. It is steep. But I still love it. On clear days, one can see out the expansive eastern plains, and the city of Denver in the distance appears very small and isolated.

Great local hike. Lots of doggos on the trail enjoying the best of life.

Pretty awesome hike close to home.

We hiked from the base of Chautauqua to Ski Jump, Bluebell-Baird, Amphitheater, Gregory Canyon, Ranger, E.M. Greenman, Saddle Rock and then Amphitheater and back to the base. We hiked it counter-clockwise and it was about 8 miles in total. It's steep and strenuous in the beginning until you get to Ranger and then it levels out for about a mile or so before beginning the route up the summit. It's a really beautiful trail with views of Boulder and Indian Mountains. It'll be crowded in the beginning, but then will level off.
One thing to note is right now E.M. Greenman is not allowing dogs, so you have to just go for it or hike the way you came up. Also, there's a ladder on Saddle Rock due to the flood damage, but there is a path around it to the left going down that the dogs can easily get down using vs. the ladder.

Pay ParkMobile to park by the hour during certain high seasons (memorial to Labor Day).

Stop to read the day’s updates on the trailhead signs to remain in the know and choose your route. I recommend taking a picture of the map.

Dogs must remain leashed unless they have a very specific boulder tag and have gone through a training program, otherwise you will get a ranger ticket and ruin it for others. Please respect this rule to preserve wildlife and rare ground nesting birds that we are lucky enough to have in our area. Rattlesnakes and bears/cats do occur but you can read about their more prevalent time of year and how to avoid.

Before you come with your dog ensure you have at least 4 plastic grocery bags with you or poop bags. After picking your dogs poop up, squeeze the air out before tying it up. Then place it within another bag to prevent too much odor. Plan on carrying your poop ALL the way to the trash in your hiking pack. When people leave bags leave lining and dotting the sides of the trail, it disrupts natural scents for local wildlife and disrupts their environment. If your dog poops early on as most do, just walk it back to the trash can at the trailhead and get your extra steps in. Keep your extra bags in can you need them later on the hike.

The path up to the 2nd flatiron is beautiful. The initial 1+ mile is mostly groomed path at an incline. When you venture further, you begin to notice many switchbacks as you start to elevate. There are a few areas that definitely involve scramble and use of your hands for balance if you intend to summit. Bring a snack to enjoy up top, and pack all the trash out with you.

In late October, we did not feel that 2 Liters water was enough per person. Next time I will bring 3 liters for each person. Just be on the safe side and enjoy training with a little extra weight. There is a nice frost-resistant water fountain at the trailhead along with primitive bathrooms if the ranger house is closed when you go.
