Really great views of Boulder. Definitely an asskicker at times, though not always. Trail was in good condition, with lots of people taking advantage of perfect hiking conditions.

The definitive Boulder workout. One of the first to try if you are only here for a short while!

Great trail and beautiful views.

Amazing fog this am with snow flakes. Trails dry with friendly people and amazing views. Happy Thursday m8y's Oiiiii

great hike. took the kids 3&5. I would say this is a moderate hike only if you are doing the final climb to see the cave entrance.

Great hike! 'Moderate' rating is appropriate. Signs and trails can make it a little confusing at the beginning, so following the mesa trail signs not the ncar trail signs. It's a pretty steep hike in general. 2.4 miles OUT and 2.4 miles BACK. Last 100' was too steep for our group of 2nd graders. Beautiful views amongst the flatirons. Still worth going even though we could see the cave at the top.

Lots of steps up (45 min) but worth the reward. Easy hike down.

Great views of Boulder. Decently trafficked by people and easy to find the trail. Around the peak it does get pretty rocky so good shoes and sure footing is highly recommended. Haven’t hiked in awhile and did the loop in a 1 1/2 hours with a longer break at the top.

Gorgeous trail. Strongly disagree with the "hard" rating-- it's difficult for a relatively short period of time, so I think it's more in the moderate category. It was actually rated moderate on alltrails until about a month or two ago.. not sure why it was changed.

This trail is short, energizing and has better views than some of the even harder trails in Boulder.

This hike was amazing. The first half was very smooth and simple, then it turns pretty rocky for the last mile or so. The very last bit was absolutely the best part though. I saw other people posting that the last 100 feet or so was a climb, so I was expecting something along the lines of boulder hopping. Boy was i wrong! It was a legitimate climb! I would say it was about a 60ish degree angle, which was exactly what i was hoping for! Most of the trail is great for most dogs, and older kids too! I will 100% be going back!

If you are going to do this hike as a loop , I would recommend going up Mount Sanitas and returning Sanitas Valley .

Great hike.

Great local hike. Lots of doggos on the trail enjoying the best of life.

Great trail! The last 100ft up to the cave is a pretty steep climb up rocks... not very kid or dog friendly, but the trail leading up to that point is great. Definitely recommend boots.

Fun trail for a quick hike. Clean and not too tough.

This is a great little hike. It’s pretty steep and gets the heart pumping. There are great views of Boulder along the way, and spectacular views from the top. Definitely worth the climb.

Definitely and amazing view once you get to the top. Hiked this trailed multiple times! The trail tends to get extremely muddy and slippery after a snow day, but well worth the challenge!

pretty short, but intense hike going up. cool views of Boulder

Nice trail, not far from homes. Good, steep ascent. Added Red Rocks trail to make for a 4.5 mile hike.

Added it on to the Mt. Sanitas loop to make the hike longer (4 1/2 total). Nice way to start. Parking lot had plenty of space at 8 am.

nice short hike

Hello! Oh man.. where are my dog people to help a sistah out? This trail in its entirety is NOT DOG FRIENDLY. I hope All Trails can change to "some parts of the trail are accessible for dogs." I only saw one review with any robust mentioning of dogs and what you can't access here.

The Spring Loop goes north and south, and the south part of the loop does not allow dogs. There are several places in this area that do not allow dogs. I heard from another hiker that this was due to bears...but not sure what would stop them from moving to the other side. My friend and I had to do another part of the trail.. still pretty, but was an out and back instead of a loop. That was disappointing. The sign on the trailhead says no dogs on the south side and on one other part, but All Trails made me think we could do a loop by the above description. Not true! It says you will get fined, and yes, there were rangers out.

Here are the good parts:
BATHROOM: YES
PARKING LOT: YES
FEE: $5 for non Boulder County residents
TERRAIN: Pretty smooth... a few gravelly areas, but mainly nice!
VIEWS: The lush fall colors were in effect. Pretty meadows and some forest areas.

Here are the bad parts (sorry bikers..)
BIKING: Tons of bikers! Beware. I wouldn't wear headphones. NO. Too many trail runners and bikers. At one point coming back down, we got stuck in a spot because there were so many bikers/runners that we tried to pull over for. Most were nice, but they DID NOT use bells of any sort to warn people. I was surprised I couldn't hear the bikers behind me until they were right up on us.

SINGLE FILE TRAIL IN SOME AREAS: some areas are wide open and so nice, but some parts are single file and hard to get off to the side for the fast-rushing bikers.

OVERALL: I was much happier as we moved on into the mountain...less peeps and just gorgeous fall colors. There is hardly any shade, so it is more of a fall hike. Tons of people and the issue with no dogs on the south made for a different hike than expected. I liked the North Loop part very much and liked down to the Fowler part of the trail. Very well marked. Beware though- lots of people and lots of bikers make for a bit of a "look behind your shoulder all the time" effect.

Nice trail for a leisurely stroll. Super short but beautiful at the top. Great for a short morning walk. Kid-friendly!

Great morning hike! Lovely views in some spots and mostly very shaded. Does get a bit rocky and steep at some points but mostly pretty accessible.

Loved this trail, very rocky and deep going up. I would say it’s tough for sure. The views were great and several places to stop for pictures. Pretty crowded when we went, on a weekday during mid morning. We didn’t come from valley, we took the mount Sanitas trail and it was hard!

Nice short hike, we went up the rocks to get to the top and hiked around the rocks for a while. Perfect for pictures! The rocks are gorgeous. Nice hike for being so close to town. Surprisingly, we only ran in to one person while we hiked the whole time. Good workout! Not for elderly or overweight for sure!

Great hike with the doggo this evening! The trail to the cave was nearly empty, with the exception of a few runners on the front end pursuing the Mesa Trail. The cave at the top was closed for bats, but beautiful views of the Boulder Valley and Flatirons throughout!

Great workout and doesn’t take too long

Pretty hike but in no way easy. To my mind "Easy" would mean I can take Grandma and Grandpa for a walk in the woods with the kiddies. This is "Easy" relative to climbing a fourteener, but it's steep and I was concerned my shoes (trail runners with tread) would hold on the rocky inclines and declines with the loose scattered rocks. As to being strenuous yes, it was a pretty good little 30 minute workout, I would liken parts of it to going up about four flights of stairs before leveling out. If you're out of shape or over weight, or elderly this is probably not a good choice. But it is surprisingly wooded for being so close to town. .

Because it’s one of the few mountain bike trails, I avoid it and let them have it to themselves. Much better hiking trails about a mile into the Eldorado canyon.
