Boston Area Map

March 4th 2018: This was a beautiful trail, an easy 5 miles. Some elevation at times. Beautiful views of the water. Currently the boardwalk into the water is damaged from the recent storm, and in many areas of the trail there are newly fallen trees. On the last mile of the trail around the pond the entrance is blocked by a giant cluster of fallen trees. I chose to walk on the main road and into the nearby neighborhood to gain access back to rest of the trail. I suspect as the warmest weather approaches the town will make the necessary upkeep from the off season. Highly recommend and would return to despite the current damage.

Most of the trail is on rock, so it’s more difficult than it might sound. You start getting views a little more than halfway up. It’s been hazy the last two times I’ve gone there (in August), so the vistas haven’t been as great as they can be. They are certainly phenomenal on a clear day. Beware of crowds (including weekdays) on one of the most climbed mountains in the world.

Great walk on this beautiful day!

Short easy walk with dogs out to the beach.

Choose when you go wisely, trails are often packed in warmer months.

I hiked the Fox Run Trail and Breakhill Trail. There are many different trails. I suggest getting a map in the visitor's center first; it really gives a great overview of the park. Make sure your legs are ready to climb!

On a warmer day (1/21), temps were in upper 30's. summit was 31degree. Had microspikes and proven to be essential for the hike. Saw another couple from Brazil who had cleats and after suggesting them gave them one spare microspikes. They were really thankful at the summit. Summit was little windy and we had to put the gloves and cap back on otherwise it was manageable with good jacket and thermals.

Such a beautiful trail. Love the many options

I run this route regularly and love the ocean views. There were a few puddles along the route today that were leftover from (I'm guessing) a snowstorm that happened a few weeks ago. A lot of families will walk around this route when the weather is nice enough (e.g. today there were a lot of families and it was 45 degrees and sunny). I don't usually see wildflowers, but sometimes there are kite surfers (who can be carried maybe 20 feet up in the air) and Fort Independence is a cool place to visit too.

Incredible hike! There are a lot of scrambled and a lot of boulders, but the views are entirely worth it. It was pretty challenging and took us about ~4 hours to hike it, round trip. There are SO MANY people on this hike! The summit has a very nice area for picnics with a great view.

Great winter walk close to the city. Helps scratch the hiking itch.

Great walk! If anyone finds a Fitbit along the trail please let Me know here!!!!

beautiful day to hike- freezing temps kept the crowds away, but the sun and clear skies made for a lovely trip. microspikes were helpful with snow and ice covering the trail. enough people had blazed ahead, so no trouble finding the path. entire trip took about 2.5hrs.

Easy, Peaceful Walk. It can, at times, be a bit crowded and there’s always the doggie “land mines” to look out for. Most people do pick up after themselves though.

First winter hike 12 degrees at base -4 at summit beautiful day to get out!

Fun trail run

Incredibly beautiful, great views,must go

Great morning hike. Beautiful views of reservoirs. Keep an eye out to follow sineage!

White dot up, white cross (least steep) down, 3 hours 40 min; carried microspike but not needed; slippery surface with rock and leaves but manageable condition. Lots of people on trails. Amazing views half way and at the top.

Well marked with nice views and one fairly steep climb.

Great hike! Beautiful view

great trail, beautiful views

The trail is a mix of dirt and paved paths. Two decent sized hills. One with a nice view of the city. Plenty of parking along the road outside of the entrance.

love walking the pond. great easy hike.

A great area! Parked in the Ponkapoag Golf Course parking lot off Rt. 138 and started down the cart path thru the course. Went over the dam then took the horse trail straight over to Route 24. Checked out the Bowley Bridge overpass then proceeded north to Duck Pond. Then headed down to the AMC camp and the beach, nice! THE HIGHLIGHT WAS WALKING THE BABCOCK BOG BOARDWALK ALL THE WAY TO THE POND (last time I was here it was too wet). Enjoyed the views there then returned through the golf course. This is a great route! Enjoy!
