Not as easy as some state. I am 29 and in good shape but saw many trying the trail and turning around. its not ling but the climb in elecation is fairly quick. It is 100% worth it if you can make it up!

The hike up is short but if wet (as it was for us) it would be slippery coming back down. We elected to take the alternate route back. It is worth the detour. Beautiful hike in the woods crisscrossing several streams. The view from humpback is awesome! It was a bit crowded but nothing unusual for other good hikes in August.

Great hike for young children. Trail is strenuous but short. Great view at the top.

Perfect hike for anyone looking to take in some beautiful scenery, diverse landscape and breathtaking views from the top!

Cross an arm of the lake on rocks, climb up a couple steep areas but other than that - pretty easy. We are seniors and had no problem with this trail.

This is a nice, easy trail if you're wearing a toddler on your back! The woods are beautiful, the creek is relaxing, and I always see some sort of wildlife.

This trail is a lot of fun with some pretty amazing views at the top. I stayed at the summit and watched the sunset. Camped close to the summit and got up and watched the sunrise. It was a perfect little trip. Took the longer easier way down. Pretty views there as well. Saw lots of bear too!!!!

I love taking this early in the morning when there aren’t many people and it’s not so hot. A great view to sit and enjoy morning coffee! It’s worth the climb!

hiked up there today for the first time and with my 2 grandkids, 4 and 5, and we loved it! It is a climb but it is worth the views.

currently the downloaded trail is not accurate.park service has it roped off alternate trail was much more challenging. not what I was expecting, but what an awesome hike!

Absolutely stunning.

Great hike. Moderate difficulty. Great view from the Rocks

Great hike and amazing views.

Beautiful hike, have been going up for years. It is a bit of a climb but as long as you are in decent shape it shouldn't be too difficult. The views are well worth it.

Beautiful. Worth the hike. It’s steep so allow enough time to get up there and enjoy your time.

beautiful drive to humpback. The hike itself is not that difficult, and the trail has always been clear when I've gone. Wonderful view at the top.

Great climb... Breathtaking views!!

Great view at the end for a relatively short hike.

very steep but worth it with that view!!

Fantastic panoramic views from the top. Very many hikers on a Sunday and parking lot was overflowing. Totally dog friendly!

Nice trail for a first time hiker. Not too long but still challenges you with the steep ascent and offers a very rewarding view and interesting rock face at the top. Watch out for mud and ice on colder days in winter/ early spring.

Good little hike. Johnson’s Farm was interesting but other than that there is not much to see other than forest for remainder of hike. Views are obstructed by trees and the feeling of being on a hike is sort of lost as you hear mowers and work being done on nearby parkway.

Today we hiked Harkening Hill in Bedford County, Virginia, adjacent to the Peaks of Otter Lodge. Gorgeous spring day, brisk clear weather and no wind (yay). We had hoped to go back to Thunder Ridge but the Parkway access was blocked at the Peaks. So my hiking companion said “surely there are trails here!” And she was right! Harkening Hill is a 3.5 mile single track loop with a 921 foot elevation gain within 1.5 mile climb to the summit. It is located directly across the Parkway from the Peaks of Otter lodge. Lovely creek beds, birds, chipmunks, typical flora and fauna, abound. Some say moderate but we found it rather easy because the trail is well maintained and not a lot of boulders until you reach the summit.... then HUGE ones! However, it is straight UP. Beautiful views which will vanish when the trees leaf.

Great hike! Heavily trafficked but the view at the top of the rocks make the trip on a crowded trail worth it.

Great view from the rocks

Great loop around the lake. Beautiful views. It made for a great run connected with otter creek trail.

Went in January and it was super muddy and icy but the summit made it worth it! Beautiful views!

Great for a relaxing day. The .7 to the summit is legitimate the rest is very easy. Good for first timers and beginners
