The last half mile is a killer (I was NOT prepared, it was my first time hiking it). It took me almost two hours to get to the falls. Wear spikes and bring poles because it is slick. All in all I enjoyed it! I want to hike it in the summer, which I hear is harder because you don't have the snow to protect you from the rocky trail.

Fun Snowshoe! A bit of a grind / slog uphill, but well worth it!

I want to come back and see if anyone else has helped back down the trail in the upper canyon.

:-)

So great for views on a snowy/foggy day! Bring spikes if you’re going to hike it in the winter because the trail is super icy. It’s great for dogs to run around too.

My tip is to treat the trail as an out and back instead of a loop because the second half is basically just a road. When you get to the stream, turn back. Way prettier.

easy hike, good views. Dont try and get a picture by the falls unless you want to walk back with freezing feet. Ha!

Beautiful, easy hike. Cool ice cave. Hiked today (mid-January) with hiking/snow boots and we were just fine.

I gave this four stars because I am sure this is a remarkable trail… but my personal experience, it should’ve been a zero. But it’s not a trail fault, I picked the worst day to do this trail. When I got to the peak, there was zero visibility to the city below. Also, there was a lot of ice on the ground and it was very difficult to walk up. I knew I should’ve waited for a clear day, but I only had a couple of hours free in order to make this hike happen at all. I will see if I can get time to do this trail one more time, but I doubt it. Anyway, I’m sure this trail is beautiful in the summertime.

I was not prepared for how rocky this was. however, I had a great sense of accomplishment when I got to the falls!

This hike is great in the winter. Got to the waterfall just before dark. I recommend hiking down in the dark. Peaceful and a nice view of the city when there is no smog of course.

We did this hike today, it’s was absolutely beautiful, sunny day and blue skies above the inversion, the trail is well packed all the way to the top, you need only spikes and maybe poles, we carried butt sleds and it was so much fun on the way down

Beautiful in the winter. Went up on JAN 10, trail was well packed for most of the route but was a little spotty in the last quarter, no problems just using crampons and poles. All and all took about 4.5 hours.

My third time going. It was muddy and icy, but overall very nice.

Best view of SLC I’ve seen.

Great trail! I did it on jan. 6th so plenty of snow. The trail was packed so you dont really need snowshoes but it makes it pretty slippery if you dont have spikes/chains or poles although we managed without either. The snow is up past my knee off the side of the trail so slipping is not advised XD The lakes totally frozen and covered in snow but theres still a beautiful view of the valley

Did this hike a few days ago, the trail was compacted down for the most part. Wish I had microspikes or trekking poles, but it was still doable without. Definitely do this on a clear day if you can. It was cloudy when I did it, but still gorgeous. Took about 2 and a half hours to get to the top and a little over an hour to get back down.

great hike! we didn't go up the last portion but it was so much fun anyway. snow was packed in but we had spikes and poles. definately need to go back and go up to the cave!

Be sure to have proper gear if going when the trail is icy!

I hiked this yesterday with a friend. It wasn’t too crowded and the snow was packed down so hiking boots were fine. We didn’t do the very last part to the actual falls because it was too steep and slippery. Other people were doing it though.

Great hike today, snow was packed hard until the top. Spikes and poles helped a lot. Lake is frozen at the top - didn’t see any moose. 3.5 hours up and down

Great for dogs, great for views.

Gorgeous views. Loose gravel near the trailhead, two areas where the path (briefly and slightly) narrows closer to the top. We were happy to have Yaktrax and trekking poles.

We had a great time on this trail. The trail was packed pretty well up to the first falls but wearing spikes helped from sliding backwards. After that the trail takes a sharp turn up and to the right which became less and less packed as we went. We brought snow shoes and switched to using those at this point in the trail. We used trekking poles the whole time though. With the warm weather today on our way back down the snow became heavy, wet and slippery.

We used smaller snowshoes on the way up. They helped with grip a lot. We regretted not just using crampons though. The trail is packed down and we took the snowshoes off and pretty much ran back down. If you do it in the winter I’d make sure to do it on a clear day. Still beautiful views. Bring some trekking poles.

Amazing short little hike. It has hard snow pack so no snow shoes necessary. The view at the falls is amazing. Truly a great one for the whole family. And the reward is well worth the work.

Great hike, breathtaking views

Very steep inclines the whole way. Did this back in the Spring but a gorgeous view at the top.

This hike was beautiful with all the snow this morning. I was the first on the trail with all the fresh powder from the snow. The lower falls was had so much snow coverage that you could only hear the water trickle down. Beautiful untouched snow! Couldn’t go much farther than the first falls. Highly recommend for some stunning views!

The 4 stars is for the time we did this hike during the fall. The fall foliage throughout the hike is amazing and you really get the wow effect when you reach the top.
We redid the hike yesterday (December 29th), and everything is covered in a thick layer of snow. Which gives very beautiful views, but not like in the fall and you definitely don’t have the wow effect once you reach the lake.
We had crampons & snowshoes with us. We only needed the snowshoes once we were at the lake to be able to reach a nice pick nick place. The route going up was completely packed, so no snowshoes required, but I would definitely advise to use crampons! It’s not easy nor hard, but it’s a good workout!

Lovely winter hike. The road and trail were sufficiently packed that snowshoes were not necessary, although they may help some folks. No waterfall visible during the winter, but it was still worth it for a beautiful woodland walk.

Lost my GoPro on this hike:( Pretty easy hike though with a beautiful view! Quite a bit of snow when I went up, about a foot now.

very fun short hiking! the top part is really really muddy, but super fun too!
