Gorgeous at sunset! Lots of birds, rabbits etc (bugs too). Great place for a run or walk (or bike ride).

We love this gorgeous hike! New fave and we hike a lot!!
We did the 5 additional miles at the top- out and back and then finished the hike for a total of 7 miles. So pretty through the oak grove in the first mile or so then the climb up. Stunning views the whole way. We never hiked in Jamal before and we will be back!

Very unsafe hike in my personal opinion. I am in overall good athletic shape and work out 4x a week and hike at least once per month. I’ve been wanting to do this mountain for a long time and I just don’t think it was worth it. You couldn’t possibly bring enough water up there and the sun is very hot. The slippery and rocky terrain along with the switchbacks make this hike challenging and risky. I felt that I could not enjoy the scenery, the hike or my surroundings because I was too concerned for my safety.

Fun and short hike up a steep hill that ends in a beautiful view of downtown!

This trail really kicked my butt but it was a great hike. I recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a real work out that includes incline but doesn’t want to be out on the trail for five hours. The view from the top is nice, and there are a lot of boulders you can sit on. It would be nice to go back and do a little picnic up there at the top. The best part about this trail is there are so many others right next to it so I did two others and overall had a great day. My advice would be to wear shoes with good soles as there is a lot of loose sand and pebbles.

Went by today and parking lot was closed with sign that all trails closed. Hasn’t rained in a week so not sure why closed.

Well here’s one that separates the wolves from the sheep! Been wanting to do this one for a loooong time, just waiting for the right day. Nice cool temps and overcast skies really took the edge off, and after the recent rains there was no haze and stunning visibility in all directions. I could see a snow capped San Jacinto and San Gorgonio to the north. Totally amazing.

It’s as difficult as everyone says, and it really brutalizes you on the way back. But I’d say anyone could easily do this hike with a little bit of conditioning, rugged footwear, and good timing. The real difficulty level of this trek is predicated on the weather/temperature. I would definitely not mess with this one mid July.

Took me 4.5 hours, managed to get by with 2 liters of agua, though I brought 3. Took a 30 minute break on the summit to get baked and enjoy the panorama. Don’t be afraid of this hike, go do it!

This hike is always my go to. Its quick enough to do before work or before errands and always has beautiful views. I occasionally run this trail too so its good for leisure or for a more intense workout! I never get tired of it and it's good for all hiker levels :)

Easy Trail with a nice stream nearby to cool down with (after it rained)

Challenging, but totally manageable. Bring lots of water. I found it to be a quiet and peaceful trail, saw few others, which I love. Great views, worth the effort.

Nice scenery and great place to walk. Easy enough that my 3 year old nephew was able to complete the back and forth. Lots of cool bird watching opportunities. Definitely a place I will return to.

Such a fun and challenging hike/trail run. Great workout and nobody on the mountain!

I found the ‘descent’ to be challenging in the 4-3.5 mile return section. Definitely a tough climb but wonderful views and my favorite in the SD area so far.

Great Hike, challenging Run. I’ve been to the top 3 times, this past weekend I opted to go straight at the 3 way intersection at the upper saddle. This brings you to an amazing lookout atop the face. Much more dramatic than the summit. Trail is washed out and difficult to stay on but there is the occasional rock cairn to show the way.

Several things I love.
1) Typically not crowded
2) Many paths to each peak which offer their own delights
3) tons of thriving vegetation and wildlife
4) Some paths can be a bit of a challenge and leg burner
5) Some pretty cool hangout spots along the way that are peaceful and secluded

Downer: at times south fortuna is crowded at stairs, luckily several paths and theres north fortuna, significantly less crowded.

I once hiked down North Fortuna after dark without a headlamp, by myself, with several paths intersecting. DONT DO THAT scary as heck.

oh, leave a gift of poetry at North Fortuna too

Good workout! My steepest trail yet in SD. Hiked up with my dog for the sunset and ran (mostly) down.

I did this hike several times and enjoyed it very much. Assess from all four different directions.

Lake Murray is a great trail / walk for getting outdoors and enjoying some great scenery. You can make your walk as long or as short as you would like and as long as there is not a major event going on there is a TON of parking.

Typically you find people ridding bikes, roller blades, scooters, walking, running, even canoeing in the lake. Also you will find that a lot of people bring their dogs.

Overall this is a great place for a walk! Make sure to pay attention to the park hours, otherwise you care might get locked in for the night.

Great hike! Gets steep between miles 2-4. It can be considered a difficult hike. Bring lots of water! The summit is to the left of the sign and the trail is marked from the sign to the summit. Much harder on the way there than on the way back. Took 4hrs20mins at a moderate pace.

Went early Thanksgiving AM this year. It was drizzling and foggy so there were few others on the trail. It was getting crowded on my way back, with big groups coming through. I recommend doing this early. I’ll go back when there’s better visibility

Flat and easy walk throughout. The last leg cuts into the estuary so you feel a little more removed from the surrounding residences and US Navy property. Very poor pet cleanup on the main trail.

This hike is everything it’s said to be and more. This is cardio workout to say the least. Started at 630a and completed the hike by noon. Took a 1 hour much needed break. I easily drank 3 liters of water and it was cold for most of the hike. I saw a few folks starting late...I wouldn’t advise starting the hike after 10am. Enjoy the hike

Easy dog and kid-friendly trail with beautiful foliage in the fall. This loop intersects with many other trails in the area and it is easy to veer off course. Be sure to use AllTrails or other GPS to navigate. There is a designated parking lot with restrooms at the trailhead off of Sunset Hwy on Wooded Hill Rd. Need to have an Adventure Pass ($5 day pass, $30 annual pass) to park in the parking lot.

The feeling when you reach the peak after climbing the stairs is pretty great

Awesome workout. Great view. I recommend ample water, a snack for the top and a lite packable wind jacket for nov/dec/jan/ feb - stairs were awesome, but trail is best on a weekday morning ( less people)

Went in late November, lots of pretty leaves and cool trees

Super easy, short trail, which was great for my young kids, who are new to hiking.

Great view at peak for watching SAN DIEGO’s downtown sunset .

The waterfall is worth it. Pack for a picnic!
