this hike is long, but has equivalent elevation gain to nearby hikes and so is actually a fairly mild hike. there is very little steep climb, and the views at the end are gorgeous! and to clarify, it's ~6.5mi round trip (despite being out-and-back). trail markers aren't super clear, so make sure you reference a map and don't end up on the fire roads and down the wrong trail!

with many breaks and pauses for photos, this hike took us about 3.5hrs. perfect hike for dogs!

Great views and it helped having trees for shade when we needed it. We got up partial way in our car and hiked the rest. Volunteer rangers at the top were really friendly and loved talking about the terrain. I highly recommend this hike.

Trail is closed indefinitely due to a fire in the area. Also the road up to the trailhead is very rocky like off roading, beware if you don’t drive an SUV. Get there early as parking is extremely limited.

Haven’t actually hiked it, just wanted others to know as it’s not posted anywhere!

Great hike, took the entire family, lots of shade

Super easy trail. Don’t even need 4wd. Just a standard truck with decent ground clearance can make it through if you keep the momentum going on the longer rocky parts.

Beautiful forest hike. View is spectacular but it needs to be very clear to see the ocean and Catalina. Nice view of San Gorgonio peak. Went at 6am to avoid the mountain bikers.

Great choice for trail running. Not crowded at all. I train for ultras on this trail. After summiting San Bernardino peak you can continue on to other peaks nearby as the trail continues east.

Very easy trail with nice views. 4wd not necessary.

Great little training hike with a steady incline. Very rocky the majority of the time so wear appropriate shoes. A vehicle with nominal clearance can make it to the trailhead or add a mile to your hike and park at the road. The actual summit doesn't have a panoramic view but if you head toward the rocks (toward San Gorgonio) theres some sweet look out points. Added a waypoint to my track for a good lookout fort in the rocks.

Loved this trail and wish it wasn't so far from Los Angeles. Having grown used to riding the San Gabriels, where you pedal up for several miles and are rewarded with amazing descents, this was a welcome, but challenging change. Skyline starts off with a short climb and then winds it's way up and down flowy single track surrounded by amazing views. The trail has something to offer anyone who enjoys xc mountain biking: occasional rock gardens, small drops, burmed twists through forrested trails and switch-backed hillsides. I'm not used to riding at such a high elevation, nor riding over constant rollers, so the trail did leave me a little winded by the end, but definitely looking forward to visiting it again soon!

As a side note: I parked at Aspen Picnic area and rode through town to the trail head at the top of Club View Drive to make it a loop. I imagine it could be done as an out and back if you have that much time and energy.

We are so sad! We arrived to the trailhead only to find this trail closed due to the fires. There was no indication here on your app that it was closed and based on all the reviews, one being two weeks ago, we wouldn’t have known it was closed. Apparently this whole area was evacuated two weeks ago. At least according to the locals. Don’t drive all the way here! Trail is closed. Check with forest rangers first. $5000.00 fine. I look forward to hiking this peak as soon as it is open again.

Cool trail and very peaceful but we were surprised that the grand view point at the end actually faces away from the lake. Was a lot of work (3.3m)! .5 mile or so into the trail has the lake views, we didn’t realize that from all the pictures and assumed they were of the end!

Great hike! Packed my lunch and took a break just before getting to the top. Lots of shade so it’s a comfortable hike in the summer heat.

Best hike in the area

Awesome trail for beginners! Made it up no problem with stock 4x4 4Runner with all terrain tires. The volunteer at the tower said rains from a couple weeks ago rutted our the trail more than usual. Great viewpoints and so glad we checked it out while in big bear. Trail can get tight and by all the reviews seems it is pretty popular. Luckily we didn’t see one person going either way on a early Friday morning.

Great trail with great views! Also take it slow around the sharp turns since it gets pretty narrow

This is a great trail, with lots of shade along most of the route and loads of beautiful vistas. Take a lunch and have a meal at Grand View Point before heading back down.

My first 14er, the challenging hike was worth the views !

Great hike. Wasn’t able to make it the whole way because of a large thunderstorm.

Absolutely beautiful hike. My favorite of the 6 pack of peaks. Went on 7/4 and wasn't too crowded, however the dirt road leading up to it was difficult for my husband's crown Victoria.

Lovely trail. Fantastic views

Easy gradual incline. Great views through different types of terrain. Tracked my hike at 7.0 miles

The view is a valley..for such a harder trail. Shade and peaceful on the way though

Clocked 16.25 miles from the trail head not 15 like stated in the review. Started at 5:55am trying to avoid to heat wave that was supposed to hit, fortunately the weather was perfect! Loved the trail, very well maintained & easy to follow. Manzanita flats & the views from the top were my favorite! We came across a few groups of other hikers but not to many which was great. I would definitely hike this trail again.

5 stars because The trail is well maintained and easy to follow. The grade is good for running and hiking. Passed Only a few dozen people all day. Parking was filling up by 630, was 7/4 holiday so maybe irregular.

Great hike that is 7 miles with a gradual uphill climb. Great for a morning or late afternoon. Also kid friendly if your kids have been out hiking a few times.

Did Sugarloaf this morning and it was a hell of a hike. got to the top in 2hr 45min with a lot of breaks in between. great views on the way to the top and lots of shade too, which is good considering it's been a hot summer up here. definitely bring lots of water with you on this hike. it's always good to be safe.

Excellent hike from the base gate up.
Take the time and talk with the volunteers in the tower. They have a lot of great area information and can point out some great sites to see.
