beautiful view & easy

Awesome trail for a Sunday. Incredible views at the top. Remember to wear/ bring sunscreen though, I got super burned.

This is a great biking trail for a hot summer day.
The wild flowers are beautiful attracting multicolored butterflies and hummingbirds!

It was a great hike! I would bring more water than you think you need. A fire went through the area a bit ago and all the brush was scorched so there isn’t much shade. It is all uphill so be prepared for that!

The trail is exactly how described with great views at the end.

Got right up on the North Ridge- way above the fog

Beautiful views on nice, well marked trails. A hidden gem

Easy trail with great rewards. From the San Simeon pier, walk a 1/4 mile on the beach northward till a wide dirt trail ascends on the right. This is the main trail. Good views of the ocean until you turn away from the bay. You enter into a beautiful forest of cypress trees. Unfortunately the trees will block out your view for the next mile. There are some tree gaps or tunnels through the trees to a smaller rim trail the gives great views of the ocean. Unfortunately some of the trails are unstable and dangerous. Caution should be used. Past the cypress trees a narrow trails goes to the furthest spot with great ocean views. The wind can be brisk and cool even on a sunny day. Access to any of these remote beaches from the cliffs is not easy and should only be attempted by the most agile.

We started from the North Ridge trail parking lot. It’s a really great hike with stunning views on the ocean, followed by being surrounded by the redwood trees. Then a rather easy walk along the creek, followed by a steep climb. It’s a proper workout in the end, but a very satisfying hike!

My favorite trail in the peninsula. Great climb and fantastic 360 views from the top.

Just make sure it’s clear out on the coast — very easy for the top of the mountain to be in the clouds.

Beautiful ocean view along the way - gets better with elevation.
Trail is not hard. I think it is moderate. Lots of shade. Watch out for poison oak.

Not too crowded for mid-day Sunday. Great hike if you want something quick with great views and a good mix of up hill/down hill. Seems like it’d be great for trail running too.

Beautiful 2hr loop.

This trail was very clean and wide at sections. You are deceived at first by a big mountain that is just the small peak before the actual Valencia peak. make sure to bring hiking poles, slippery on the way down.

Good route. I've done other hikes from Grey Whale Cove this was the first deserving of the hard rating. The combination of the two steep sections and that you tackle the entire 2k incline in the first part of the hike keeps you on your toes.

I chose to hike up to the peak and then run down, with a few exceptions where it was too steep to run and stay in control.

I did single track biking and I had a great time but realized that it was a very short ride. Wish it would be longer.

I love this hike! That being said I went at 2:00pm when it was 91 degrees out and I almost had a breakdown at the top it was so hot. There are signs warning about the lack of tree coverage. Listen to them! Don’t be dumb like me, bring lots of water and plan earlier in the day before it gets too hot

Definitely allows dogs on leash the whole way. Great low grade and very well-managed trail if you want to clock some miles and be by the ocean pretty much the whole time. Can get pretty busy later in the day.

You can only take this trail slightly past the turnoff for Drake's Head Trail. After that, it's overgrown brush that's 5' tall. I tried to force my way through the trail, but gave up once I had to resort to crawling through the brush. The rest of the trail is stunning!

Nice little hike.. good hike to give kids extra experience.

Gentle, long hike with various terrains (dry grass, lush forest, rocky paths, and bush trees) that is great for off leash dog walking/ hiking and unplugging. There’s lots of well marked paths on the trail, allowing you to go for 1 mile or 6+ miles, with shortcuts built in should you overestimate the hike.

I felt very safe as a single hiker, and rarely saw others. I did 6+ miles in about 3.5 miles with a 2 year old puppy.

Please bring enough water for the trip- there’s no water source once you’re in. Also there are lots of random picnic tables for you to enjoy and plenty of bathrooms on the route, so bringing food would be enjoyable.

Great hike with gorgeous views of the peninsula. From the top, you'll be able to see Mount Diablo and Mount Tamalpais off in the distance. There are two really steep sections of the trail. Namely, the section right at the beginning near the parking lot area and the last section of the Fly Amanita trail (the narrow one with a bunch of switchbacks that goes through a forested section) before you meet up with Old San Pedro Mountain Road. It wasn't easy getting down the latter (which was at least a 50-degree slope)—we had to slide down the dirt right at the junction.

Great hike, not too many views since the fog was covering the majority of the trail. Make sure to go on a clear day.

Tough. But fun.

This is a pretty trail with mellow elevations and beautiful views. Also a lot of different trail options along the way.

I would rate this moderate. Most of the route is well covered by trees and did not feel the heat at all. Beautiful views. Go early to get parking

Good views, even through the fog. Nice elevation gain from the parking lot followed by a flat trail. My only complaint is that the trail was pretty overgrown or narrow in some places and LOTS of poison oak. Keep an eye out for it!

Loved this trail. It was a good workout with the reward of stunning views. Would definitely recommend!

Enjoyable hike, not too bad. Convenient parking right at the trail head. I do suggest going clockwise around the loop so you end up doing the steep switchbacks on your way back down from the ridge.
