HikingGreat!

It was a beautiful trail, we went there last week. The weather was perfect. If you are only using the coast trail, you can definitely go with kids as long as they are willing to walk 14 miles in total. We did the coast trail and came back via the short cut that climbs up the waterfall. It’s a beautiful view and you get to see all the steps of the waterfall. But this is definitely dangerous and bring good shoes. Shortens the total distance to 12 miles. Don’t forget to explore the caves during low tide.

We took the shortcut and it was crowded with people. If you want to take the shortcut, look for a FILA slipper on the left side of the trial when you can hear the sound of the falls. That's the entrance and it's very easy to miss. The cliff to the beach looks scary but even little kids can manage it.

Trail was nice on this cool day. Lots of people out and the shortcut was easy to navigate. No signal or phone service.

HikingGreat!

Gorgeous well maintained trail. I recommend getting there early as the parking lot fills up pretty quickly. We got there at 7 AM and it we got one of the last slots. Hiking sticks worked great as there were a lot of loose gravel but they are not necessary. Make sure to keep a close eye out for the maker if you choose the shortcut which cuts about 3 miles from your hike but if you did the long way you’ll have a gorgeous mile walk on the beach to the falls.

Went on this hike 4/10. Left from Sacramento at 6:30. Got there around 9:30. Parking lot filled up but they let us park on the side of the road. They trail itself is super beautiful with wild flowers. There were SO MANY people though. We didn’t take a short cut and it took us around 12.2 miles round trip. Lots of poison oak. The trail takes you down to the beach and the falls. Hiking poles defiantly help.

HikingGreat!

We started at 830a on Friday and the parking lot was just starting to fill up. beautiful views both directions, either overlooking the ocean or in the trees or along the trail. wildflowers were gorgeous, saw a rabbit, 4 deer and a snake. we missed the shortcut to the falls which was fine as we had read the warnings so we walked to wildcat camp then down the beach to the falls and back same route. falls weren't gushing but still beautiful. we took the high trail in and stayed to the right back out (I forget the names for this slight deviation). all total, 13 miles, 30k steps. loved every step.

HikingGreat!

Awesome trail , up along the bluffs then back into the woods, meadows and lakes . We missed the short cut trail and went all the way to the wildcat campground then hit the beach and walked back to the falls from there . From the parking lot to the falls via wildcat campground according to my phone was 8.6 miles then taking the shortcut trail back to the parking lot was 4.6 miles. The trail was pretty moderate , a few pitches up and down but also enough flat to catch your breath. Nice time!

4/8/2021- Thursday- we left Stockton at 6am on got to the trailhead about 9am due to some traffic. parking lot still had so much parking left available. bathrooms are open and are pretty clean which are located in the parking lot. my hubby and I did this trail in it's loop clocked in over 11 miles. we finished in under 4hout 30 min but we are pretty fit so it was a pretty easy hike for us. I loved this trail because it have so much wildlife. we encountered banana slugs, lizard and elk! we seen the waterfall, a lake, the ocean, the forestry and the beach front which is hard to see all in one trail so that's the beauty of this trail, YOU GET IT ALL! there is so much vegetation and when taking the shortcut route (if you do) the pathway is so narrow and poison ivy is on both sides so wear long sleeves and pants. I did my research before coming so I was well aware! the hike is pretty easy and maintained. very little incline here and there. it's just it's longer than most hikes and that's fine with me but if you aren't able to do the shortcut route you will be doing about 14 miles out and back. we did the 7 miles to the falls and the 4 miles shortcut back to the parking area which meant we climbed up the rocks. thankfully I wore the right shoes and it had grip so I was able to do so. it can be very dangerous so if you second guess yourself don't even do it because it can be slippery due to the rocks and not much to hold on. but other than that I loved this trail and I want to come back again soon!!!! the weather was about 55 degrees today but with clear sunny skies I was fine with a crop top and leggings (except for long sleeves during the shortcut route )

This hike is AMAZING. But y'all, the shortcut is not a designated trail and the official website begs people not to take the cut due to erosion and treacherous cliffs. And yet...so many people do it anyway. Bleh. We got to the trailhead early to beat the crowds and managed to be the first people to the falls (around 9am). It lives up to the hype - it is so awesome. We then made the trek back down the beach, saw a herd of Tule Elk, and then headed back. On the way to Wildcat Beach we took the Coast Trail, but took the Ocean Lake Trail on the way back. Both trails are gorgeous with so much wildlife (deer, elk, newts, snails, slugs, quail, and on and on) and, in the spring, so many wildflowers. Definitely one of the most beautiful trails I've ever done.

The trail was really nice. Such beautiful views. My plan was to only take the short cut on the way back but I started to climb up the rocks and chickened out! According to my phone I walked 17 miles.

Hiking

Did the 12 mile loop: wildflowers in bloom, trail dry and a pleasant, easy hike. Left at 8am and saw no one as the birds announced on the way to Wildcat Campground where I came across about six camp groups just waking up. Beautiful spot for camping, with picnic tables, grills and a privy. Walked along the beach toward waterfall as tide was going out. Water fall(s) were pleasing enough, stopped for an early lunch before scrambling up the short rocky climb. This should not intimidate any regular hikers. Saw my first hikers coming in from the shortcut at this point and bumped into a steady stream of people and TP on the way back. 11.98 mile hike took me 4 hours & 20 minutes with side trails, etc.

8.5mi hike if you take the shortcut. Stay left on the trail the whole time essentially. Would wear long pants and suggest getting there as early as possible. Walking from overflow parking can easily add an extra mile or two to your hike. Oh! And watch out for banana slugs on the trail!!!!

It was beautiful a little Challenge going down the cliff, it was our first time, but it was worth it. We went in the afternoon some traffic but mostly quite we love it. Listening to birds and the wind blowing in the trees it was so peaceful.

The rocks to climb down and see the waterfall are a little scary to go down on.

This was a great hike/workout. We clocked in 9 miles by doing the short cut. An arrow on the floor and a hobbit hole show you were the shortcut. The treck down from the shortcut was very steep on rocks so if you don’t have hiking shoes or aren’t comfortable climbing down rocks you’re better off going the extra mile. Overall the waterfall was nice bit nothing spectacular. We went on a Tuesday 9:30am and it was not crowded at all. When we got to our car around 2 the lot was almost full.

Absolutely beautiful! Don’t forget to look for the shortcut to your left after you’ve passed the 2nd lake. Beware of poison oak on the way cause the trail does get narrow & tight for a little. Be really careful climbing down to the bottom to Alamere Falls. It’s definitely worth it though once you reach it! Just be sure to check the tide schedule before you plan your trip. Will go back again one day to do the whole 12 miles but only did a little over 8 today with the shortcut. Best hike ever!

Trail was beautiful and green. Smooth and easier on the feet than the mountain trials I am used too. The app sent us a lot farther out than we needed to go because it didn’t show the turn off to the waterfall. But that was fine with me because I got a lot more exercise for myself and the kiddos going the extra couple miles

Beautiful trail. We made the rookie mistake and missed the shortcut through the vine tunnel (which was funny bc we literally commented on it, calling it a Hobbit Hole). We ended up on the beach past the meadow campsite, for an additional mile (very enjoyable by the water) to get to the falls at the end. It was low tide. The sketchy scramble up the wall wasn't too bad it you don't over think it and if its your first time, let someone else who has done it go in front of you so you can see where to plant your feet. I recommend light snacks, extra water, some light layers (poison oak and breezy) and boots for this hike. I wore Nike running shoes and my ankles are hurting the next day.
