great trail with lots of shade, views are wonderful. Only downside for me was that it was very crowded, then again guess it's good that lots of people are able to enjoy being outside. Next time we're doing this very early in the morning

Was nice, went with Fuqua Energy Club Gang for Klinkman’s bday, some pretty aggressive hills for the first half. But definitely some panoramic views. Getting there took longer than I thought because the road up was classic windy and frankly would be insanely dangerous in the dark because I didn’t see any streetlights and I did see a lot of steep drops around some intense u-corners.

Nice views....Great for day hiking.. will do it again ...

This trail is amazing. We also went counter clockwise after reading some reviews. It was a nice glute workout at the beginning and avoids the steep downhill (which I hate). This route has a lot of variety - you have open hills, covered forest, rocky, grassy hills, uphill, downhill... and the views of the ocean are unbeatable. The last section is narrow, could see why it would be an issue in the fog. But the views are worth it!!

Really great hike except for the section after you reach Grizzly peak boulevard. It's hard to find the next section of the trail (you need to turn left at the end of the trail and walk along Grizzly peak to find the trail entrance) and then the next section is not well maintained. Also the trail is not well marked so have a map handy. If it wasn't for that segment, I'd rate this hike a 4/5. Great views.

We did the full trail and it's definitely a solid workout (some of the steeper climbs I've done). It looks us about 2.5hrs with some water breaks. Some shaded and some direct sun. Recommend plenty of water, bug spray, and suncreen. We also brought our pup who loved the climb as well and was off leash the majority of the time. Also definitely recommend solid trail shoes or hiking boots.

We arrived around 9am and had no issues with parking right at the trail head.

I recommend arriving by 9a otherwise the trail gets crowded. My walk out to the falls I more or less had the trail to myself. The walk back was busy. The trail is lovely. Oddly there’s graffiti wherever there’s a marker but otherwise the views of the ocean are hard to beat. The more wooded parts of the trail are nice too though don’t compare to nearby Mt Tam. There’s a large arrow made of pieces of shale on the Coastal trail to indicate where to turn for the falls. By the time I arrived at the falls there were around 15 other people there. The view is expansive and climbing/ rock scrambling down to the beach to seeing the falls come over the cliff above and drain into the ocean is unique. I took my shoes off and went calf deep into the ocean. There were three sea lions/ seals floating in the water 15 feet from me. Otherwise on the trail I saw a rabbit, banana slug and a bunch of quail.

My second time doing this trail - felt harder this time! - but absolutely beautiful, quiet, incredible views along the way and from the top. Echo Karl's comments below - wear sturdy boots, bring at least 1L water per adult (and drink half on the way up!), and food to recharge at the summit. Trail is narrow, steep (the whole way) rocky, uneven, loose rocks etc). Leave the kids behind unless they really love hiking challenges. Saw two other hikers on my way up, otherwise just the sound of rocks and the occasional lizard or crow. Go solo - your mind will be refreshed. Allow at least 1:30 for ascent to the fire lookout, 45 at the summit to enjoy and refresh, and 45 to descend.

Steep and at an incline most of the way so wear shoes with good grips as it is slippery downhill. Offers great views of bay.

very good hike down to the ocean. The views change all along the hike. The last stretch is bit tricky to walk down to the ocean

Narrow, steep , and rocky pathway. Prepare yourselves with proper hiking boots, attire, hydration, and food. It might be wise to go in the early morning instead of midday.

Unfortunately there wasn’t an In-and-Out waiting for us at the top. The views of the city and the bay were breathtaking all the way up.

I wholeheartedly enjoyed this hike so much, that i take anyone willing to go with me, just to show them the beautiful views! Its not too difficult of a hike either which makes it even more enjoyable.

I took my nieces and nephew whom range from 11 to 16. I've also seen young kids on the trail, I dont k ow how far they got, but none the less.

Go and do this hike... you're gunna love it!

The hike was great but too short, though it has Beautiful sceneries along the way which is great. Waterfalls are ok. It was much too crowded with children running around and more touristy than I like. Like other reviewer mentioned, many people carried portable speaker and people/children kicking around rocks.

Pretty easy hike. Very crowded with lots of people who didn't respect the area, lots of litter and people walking with portable speakers.

Wunderlich is a hidden gem. The trails intersect at various points and it's easy to map out a 2 mile hike or a one that's 10 miles. Most of the trails are shaded, which makes a huge difference on a hot day like today. It was a busy day when we visited, but the trails didn't feel busy, and finding a spot to park on the street was no problem. The trails are well maintained. There are few flat spots, so it can be a bit of a workout. Overall, a great experience.

I loved the variety of terrain. You get forest, lakes, streams, waterfalls and the ocean. Some parts are a challenge, but I loved it!

Very good day hike. Some steep sections and good range of scenery with some good views of Silicon Valley

Went in August. The falls themselves were pretty tiny. The weather was spectacular and weird though. Super foggy and overcast but hovering at a balmy 75 - very surreal!

Overall, a super easy flat trail, good for trail running (assuming it’s not too busy), and the falls are a little bonus, but weren’t super amazing.

Was a great hike. Definitely recommend it.

Great hike! Nice, scenic view. I like waterfalls but the hike alone was something I'm more interested in. Could probably trailrun without any big issues but be careful still!

August 2018 // Pretty sweet for a Bay Area hike! Worth it. Do it. Go early or go later if you want to avoid the crowd at the falls. But be mindful of when the sun sets and do bring headlamps if you go late.

TIP: There is no official sign for "Alamere Falls" from the Coast Trail. I repeat. There is no sign. For the hidden side trail to the falls from the main trail, look for the blue rock arrow on the ground that points to an overgrown unmaintained trail in dense high shrubs. And watch out for poison oak. They are abundant here.

P.S. You'll need both hands to scramble down the cliffs if you want to see the lower falls from the beach (and back up again). Please don't bring something you can't fit into a backpack. You need to be completely hands-free. And please don't wear sandals. Just don't. Be safe and have a good time!

Overview: a good up and down stroll along the coast and through the woods to a beach.

Pros:
1) scenery changes a lot.
2) lots of shade and trees
3) up and down, not too strenuous
4) parking lot at beginning.

Cons:
1) an “up and back” (not a fan)
2) pretty popular so lots of people (even during the week)
3) rocky road into the parking lot

The pros far outweighs the cons. Good hike for all group sizes.

Gentle, long hike with various terrains (dry grass, lush forest, rocky paths, and bush trees) that is great for off leash dog walking/ hiking and unplugging. There’s lots of well marked paths on the trail, allowing you to go for 1 mile or 6+ miles, with shortcuts built in should you overestimate the hike.

I felt very safe as a single hiker, and rarely saw others. I did 6+ miles in about 3.5 miles with a 2 year old puppy.

Please bring enough water for the trip- there’s no water source once you’re in. Also there are lots of random picnic tables for you to enjoy and plenty of bathrooms on the route, so bringing food would be enjoyable.

Be prepared. Just be prepared. It’s steep but rewarding!

More walk than hike... But you'll definitely get your exercise. Great coastal views and the falls at the end are more than worth the effort. Don't shy away from the scramble to the beach... The view of the lower falls is the real win. Go early! I was at the trailhead at 7:45 am on a Saturday and enjoyed complete silence and no ones else at the falls. On my way back... There must have been 50+ people headed there...

Excellent MTB trails

Pretty awesome in the end to see a waterfall on the beach!

It’s a great hiking trail with scenic view.

Beautiful hike with ever-changing scenery! The hike is fairly flat, with some ups and downs, but nothing strenuous. There's a little path after the first large lake (about halfway into the hike) that has a swimming area and rope swing! After the second lake there's a "secret" path to the waterfalls that's marked with a rock arrow on the ground.
It took us about 3 hours round trip, and ended up being a bit shy of 8 miles since we took the secret waterfall path.

Toilet paper everywhere! Absolutely disgusting. Ruins an otherwise nice hike.
