Pretty amazing experience, even with the severely diminished views due to the smoke. Pay close attention to which trails you take up to the summit, some get very hairy very fast. A couple who turned back ahead of me stated that they got charged by a bear, and while I didn't see anything, bear spray and a big group would be very helpful!

It’s totally worth it to go all the way to the Ink Pots. They were so beautiful and fascination, as was the nearby river. As with most trails in Banff, it pays to get there EARLY!! We were there by 7am and had the trail to ourselves and more importantly got parking. When we passed the falls on the way out are around 10:30am it was a parking lot of tourists with a line to even get on the walkway to see the upper falls. It was worse than the mall at Christmas and parking lots were completely full.

As someone who has hiked in New Zealand, Patagonia, Peru and more, this hike was disappointing. It’s all uphill with the excitement being the lake 5 miles in. Good workout but not very rewarding.

Hard to find parking so get there early!

Once you reach the end - go on top of mountain to reach the glacier - fantastic view of lake and surroundings from there.

Nice little hike for city view

Beautiful. However, the cave, which was my #1 must see, was closed to endangered nesting birds.

What a view!!!! Be there when sun shines!

Must go early to avoid the mass amounts of tourists at Johnston Canyon! Easy track overall.

Its hard to capture the beauty of this place with pictures

The parking lot is full by around 630am. Make sure to be there early

Fairly easy hike, good for stretching the legs and getting some air, perfect for a smokey day. Lots of people! Recommend very early morning or very late in the evening to avoid the crowds. Views from the ink pots are nice. Wouldn't recommend this if the weather is good, spend the day elsewhere.

Nice easy trail. very few people past upper Falls on the way to the ink pots.

Pleasant hike. waterfalls are beautiful.

We reached the top in 3.5 hours. it's a hard hike if you are not fit. but if you are in a good condition you will be able to see the amazing view on Banff in few hours. Just be careful, you have to turn on the right just before the false summit. You have no sign on the trail and that's pretty sad. the way back into the forest is very boring. it will be challenging and you may be able to see some bears.

The hight of this canyon is impressive, the walk in the Johnston Canyon is prettier but this Canyon itself is more beautiful. The water's colour is unreal. The end is beautiful, come around noon to have the best light. It's not too crowed compare to the JC.
The walk is super easy, it's not even a hike. Perfect for smoky days like today.

Very nice hike with some decent views. My 5 and 7 year old were able to do it no problem. Took us about 2 hours round trip from the bottom car park. A good workout for us not-so-experienced hikers!

Go early. Easy hike, i was really hungover and managed fine haha. It's mostly in the trees and the ink pots are pretty cool so it's worth doing. Make sure you get an ice cream from the little shed when you return from the hike, cheapest you'll find around Banff!!

The canyon was really cool, but crowded. There were lines by each of the falls viewpoints to wait to take your picture (about 2pm weekday), and some folks seemed completely oblivious to moving with the flow of traffic on the narrow walkways. Once you get past the upper falls, the crowd thins out a ton and it's a nice quiet hike to the ink pots. They were pretty cool and the surrounding views were nice, but if you're limited on time, I wouldn't consider the ink pots portion of the hike a must-see. Definitely go up to the upper viewpoint though.

The first bit is very crowded. Get there early to avoid the people and the full parking lot. The falls are beautiful though!
Once you get past the upper fall, it clears out. There are many switchbacks but the ink pots are a unique place to visit! Very cool place. We had lunch here then returned.

Nice hike but it was kind of late when we get there

We were inspired by a young lady who went all through the inkpots with crutches. We did the hike again after two years and the inkpots were much more beautifulthis year due to the amount of rain! It is a beautiful hike.

This is one of my favourite hikes in Banff.
Rockbound Lake is a must see..

Very busy. It's a nice walk that you will enjoy.

People are right, parking is hard to get there early. The view is also the best in the morning. It’s an easy short hike, though some children and seniors may find it difficult. There are good views from the bottom of the pile so even those with physical disabilities could enjoy the view of moraine.

This is my favourite hike in the Rockies. The hike to the lake is a well maintained path with a reasonable incline until you reach the alpine valley leading back behind castle mountain. Once you reach the valley, the trail flattens out and you'll meander your way back toward the lakes. The first lake is tiny, and not the real prize of the day. Snap some pics, and then continue to follow the trail up the headwall. This is the only "challenging" part of the hike, but in two switch backs you'll be above the headwall and basically at the foot of the lake. Views of the peaks on all sides are very impressive, and will make you feel tiny against the towering sheer cliff faces. It's worth making the lap around the lake, but you will need to be a bit careful to pick your way around the boulders on the south side. Also, bring a bathing suit and go for a dip! It's very rewarding and a great secluded beautiful spot in the park.

A few other tips:
- I've hiked to Rockbound a handful of times, and I appreciate it more toward the middle or end of August once the bugs have passed and the snow is melted. I've been once on Canada Day and the bugs were awful.
- There's a little stream in the woods on the east side of the parking lot. A great place to cool your feet at the end of the day.

Love this hike. We do it annually, preferably in the fall when the tourist season slows down. It’s worth the trek to the ink pots. Take a pic nic and plan on enjoying the view at the top for a while. I don’t recommend taking kids that need to be carried all the way to the top. The upper falls is fine for kids. Can get very busy on summer weekends making climbing and parking tough if you go mid day.

Wonderful scenery but very busy.

Great trail. Not too tough but the boulders add a lot of interest and skill-testing. Gets you away from he madness of Moraine Lake and out to a peaceful and quiet oasis. The creek/river that parallels the trail has some spectacular little chutes and falls. Super for photos.

Parking is a bitch. So I started to walk the 12km road. Got picked up by a french couple. Starting walking down got picked up by a German couple. Ppl are super nice.
