Quick traditional first warm up hike of the season. Beautiful easy walk to upper falls before too many tourists make this family friendly hike too crowded. Still some beautiful ice formations to see but melting fast. As of 4 days ago when we were out recommend ice cleats between Lower and upper falls as trail was pretty slick but shouldn’t need for long with the recent warm weather.

A lifetime of unforgettable images of God’s Creation will forever be engrained in my soul. The most beautiful hike. Fulfilled my desire to bathe in nature.

It's a great hike, don't get me wrong. But considering the amazing ones around, I give that only 4 stars. The best is to find a way to add it to something else. We did The little and big beehive, Lake agnes, and then this trail through highline trail. Big day, filled with amazing views

Don't waste your time, there are much nicer hikes around there. It's a very easy stroll but there just isn't much to see.

Obviously if you are there, you should do that. It's very crowded but the lake is very nice.

Short and easy hike with good views of the lake at the end.

Hubby and I took our Australian Shepherd to the upper falls on Monday (April 2) the trail is very well done, perfect those wanting a nice leisurely walk. Not really a hike, and unfortunately far too many people on the trail, way too crowded!!

One of my favourite hikes. Have been 8 times now. To avoid even the spring crowds go early or around 5 pm. Ruins it when you have hundreds of people on the trail with you.
If hiking in the spring you will have difficulties if you go in runners or flip flops or any of the other summer shoes I have encountered people struggling with on the trail. Buy or rent crampons/cleats and enjoy the steady climb up the canyon :)

Path is still clear during winter and spring. You can actually walk on a parallel path on the lake while it is frozen with somewhat better views because no trees blocking the way. The end of the lake leads to the Plain of Six Glaciers trail. Make sure to steer clear until avalanche season is over (Avalanche training expected to continue forward). Saw many unprepared tourists headed that way when I turned around. People have died in the Lake Louise area from being uneducated about avalanches in the last few years. Be smart!
Great views at the end of the lake side trail.

Easy hike; a little slippery at certain points. The views are amazing. Make sure to check out the cave!

Fun winter hike! Absolutely beautiful.

Just do it!!

Very crowded. Good mountain views and nice lake.

Very slippery. Need spikes, very busy trail this weekend

Great short walk

Beautiful and easy walk in -30 weather

Winter hike that was nicely traversable. Not icy, just hard packed snow and a good trail to follow. Fairly flat the whole way and great views of a bluebird sky.

The weather was nice ! Trail was not busy at time we were there . I love the fact that people who had their dogs were on leashes . I really enjoyed the hike to the lower falls .

Did the trail to the Upper Falls on February 8th right after the snowfall. Beautiful hike. Used yaktrax’s to help steady myself on the trail. Probably didn’t need them. Highly recommend for beginners

So beautiful! Definitely take shoe spikes in the winter! Lifesavers!

Easy family trail/walk. It's crowded even in winter, I couldn't imagine during summer with strollers... Cleats recommended. Nice view and fun for kids.

Feb 04.
My phone died, so the recording is inaccurate.

-15, still comfortable temperature as long as the appropriate clothing is used.

Some steeper parts, but has rails almost the whole way along, handy. Hiking sandles would be comfortable in the summer. Saw several kids around 5yo doing just fine. Path is narrow especially with heavy traffic, strollers not ideal.

Completed this in 1hr at a moderate pace, plenty of stops for photos.

VERY busy in the summer until past the upper Falls.

great winter hike! so beautiful.

Nice leisurely walk for all ages, beautiful scenery busy during the day with lineups on the foot bridge near the lower falls.

Great variety and beautiful winter terrain

Dec 9/17 - we started out around 1130 and the trail was not overly busy. The weather was mild and the trail was very slippery in many areas. Though many other hikers were struggling and having difficulty with the trail, we had purchased Hillsound Crampon Pros and had no traction issues, even on the icy inclines. We ventured up above the upper falls towards the ink pots but turned back as my girlfriend had a recent knee injury that was starting to flare up. It was a very enjoyable hike. Without the cleats it would have been very difficult and a good way to risk injury.... as we saw from one of the more unfortunate people who were coming back with facial lacerations and a bruised ego.

Good beginners hike or if you only have a little time in the Banff area.
