We arrived at the trailhead at 8:00 and there wasn’t that many people there yet - maybe 30 cars in the P1 lot. Hardly anyone on the trail at that time and we had the cave area just below the upper falls all to ourselves for about 15 min. By the time we made it to upper falls, the trail was jammed. Like others have pointed out, highly recommend starting as early as you can. Beautiful hike and the cave area is awesome.

Did this hike after being rain and hail-stormed out of Lake Louise rock climbing. Cool hike! Gorgeous glacier and lake views. Started at 6:15pm- very few people so worth it (*tea house will be closed this late*). A few short stops and pictures at the lookout, finished in 3.5 hours sans trail running. Long summer days are great! Be aware that hiking/climbing at lake Louise in the summer = lots and lots of tourists, no parking 8am-3pm. Shuttles run every 15m (no matter how long the line) from an overflow lot 7.5 miles away. We waited an hour. Return shuttles stop at 530pm. Weather is often iffy with thunderstorms popping up early afternoon in unpredictable patterns. In my opinion, the tea house, chateau, and ski resort feel more like a fancy European resort than a Canadian Rockies NP. So, for the outdoor purist, consider skipping Lake Louise and heading to nearby parks for your wilderness experience.

Great views. Make sure you stop at the Teahouse, if not for the chocolate cake, then for the experience!

Great hike! Arrive early to avoid the crowds. Make sure to soak your tired feet and legs in Lake Louise. The cold water is the perfect way to recover while eating lunch looking at one of Canada’s most iconic views.

great hike. not hard but amazing views of the peaks and the lake. nice waterfall at the end.

we started about 7:30pm on a weekday so there were a lot fewer people than earlier in the day. made the hike more enjoyable. if the parking lot is full the park service won't even let you get down the road to the lake.

A very nice trail for first time hikers. Be there early to enjoy the view and the sound of the water falls and also to avoid the crowd if you want to take a video or photo of the falls.

Excellent hike and worth the views. Not all that challenging if you’re in shape. If not it will be a leg burner.

Worth the effort. Incredible views, esp of the valley behind the lake.

Family stroll around lake. Amazing views, excellent trail.

Wonderful hike. 4 stars only because it was busy. Kids 7 and 10 did fine-just complained near the top. My phone says we went 6k there and back. Started at 830. Definitely best to start early.

Nice hike. Stay near the water as others have advised. Trail washed out a bit around 1.5 miles in but manageable. Look for rock piles (trail guides) and stay close to the water before the stairs. Stopped by the natural bridge over the river (leads to bow hut trail). There’s a ladder so you can climb on top.

This was a great little hike during the winter. Solid view of Lake Louise. I would recommend this as a short winter hike.

Went early at 6:30 am and glad that I did! It was a beautiful hike, but on the way down saw tons of people on their way up. Go early so you don’t have to fight the crowds!

Went pretty early around 6:30 am and there were already some people ahead of me. This was a cool hike and the falls even had a little cave you can go through and feel the spray from the water! Saw tons of people on my way down so definitely go early!

Easy walk and great way to get some pictures of the lake without all the tourists by the entrance.

Great day today, the weather was perfect. It’s a little more windy and cold near the falls but that is to be expected with glacier water. Some parts were scarier for me because I’m afraid of heights but even as a beginner hiker it wasn’t too bad. I had my poles and good hiking boots. The elevation is not much and it’s mostly an easy hike, just one steeper section. The falls are awesome and the lake is so blue! By far one of my favorite hikes.

Getting an early start is key. The falls were beautiful and going the extra steps to the ink pots are worth it!!!!

Great views of the water- stick to the river! Made the mistake of going through the forest unnecessarily.

Amazing views!!!

eine super Tour mit immer wieder tollen Ausblicken

10/10 views. Lots of steps. Sooo many people at the top, but you will get why, as the view is magnificent. scramble down some rocks to get picks without 100 million people in them. the color of the lake is un like anything. Watch out for thieving chipmunks.

Everything I have hiked in Minnewaska has been great and this one is great too. Nice for hiking, picnicking, or just a leisurely stroll.
A nice lake, great view points, a water fall, and even small beach if you so desire.
I would suggest going on a weekday or not peak time as it can get very crowded.

My only complaint was with the Millbrook Mountain foot path - at the start a sign stated that its a mile hike (2 miles there and back)that leads to a some great cliffs (always a favorite of mine), About 75% of the way there is another sign that states you can not go further without a MOHONK pass (its not like i could purchase one mid trail) and upon arrival at the end of the trail i came to find the cliffs were closed for nesting falcons. I am not about to disturb the falcons but it would have been nice to know prior to the start since its really the reason to take this trail.
Both were surprises and NOT stated anywhere at the start. I only bring this up because everything else was VERY well marked so it seemed odd.

i give it 5 stars because that trail is so cool

This is an iconic mountain that should be a bucket list hike. The first 1/3 or the hike is groovy - a nice walk in the woods or a great warmup. Once you hit the gully, shit gets real. Real gains, real fast up the root staircase. When you get out of the tree line to the exposed scramble, the rocks get very loose, and it gets steep - 45* angle for 800m of gain over 2k push to the top. Extremely windy and cold at the top and not much shelter. The downhill over this exposed section is also challenging as the scree is very large and sharp. Took us about 6hr return.
*Local tip - go to Waldhaus for a Banff Springs Lager and nachos and enjoy looking up at the summit while you drink your celebratory beer

Awesome hike, very worth the views.

Did this in winter and it was really beautiful!! Snow everywhere, frozen waterfall at the other end of the lake that you can actually go stand on if you're a bit adventurous. We took a day off from skiing to do this and it was a great day!

General walking shoes are fine, no hiking boots required. All trails are paved and very well maintained. Some of the surfaces are wet from the river, but all and all a very easy, scenic walk.
