Nice trail, good views, easy to walk up without any gear, would recommend ice trekkers if the weather gets worse.

Ahahaha, the map says it all. That’s not a child scribbling or your lie detector test! This hike is a griiiind of relentless switchbacks. Can’t beat the views at the end though (for the most part there are not a lot of views on the way up due to the forest), and also the option for the free ride back down in the gondola (in certain parts of the winter season). Nice to have a restaurant option and little museum/shop also.

3 stars just might be me being picky...if I lived in Banff and just needed a quick up/down hike I would do this. Being from a bigger city, though, I like the views of a hike to be without civilization in them... that said, if you want a view of Banff town & surrounding area, this will suit you just fine.

Great hike and amazing views !

Hiked October 20, 2018, the temperature was great, but a bit windy. The views at the top were spectacular. We were supposed to continue on to the Jewel Pass but the path going up was full of snow and slippery so for safety reasons we opted not to, we took the same route going down, we aren’t seasoned hikers by the way. It was a good hike. I highly recommend it.

Hiked Oct. 20 beautiful views from the top and a fun challenge in the snow for the second half of the hike.

This was one of the first trails I did, and it was a wonderful introduction into hiking. Go early in the morning as it gets very busy (there’s a teahouse up there - not Agnes teahouse, although that’s close by) and make the extra 1km trek to go have lunch in front of lefroy and upper Victoria glacier. You’ll see a few avalanches for sure.

Absolutely beautiful view of moraine lake from a different perspective. It was only relatively difficult at the beginning (first ~2 km) due to switchbacks but it was pretty flat the rest of the time. If I do this again, I’d want to continue to Wenkchemna pass into Larch valley.

Pretty cool trail. First part to Vista lake (not frozen) was muddy and easy. Second part, the real ascension, was icy and snowy but well tap. Second half of the ascending part was more steep. cleats and pole recommended! Took 1h45 to go all way up. You can continue 3km after Arnica lake (which was frozen) to Twin Lakes.

Took the dogs up this morning. It was extremely icy in the shade so micro spikes were a definite must have. Where the sun hit the trail the snow had softened by the time I made the trek down but some form of traction device was still the way to go. Great cardio work out. Nice view of Lake Minnewanka near the top.

Completed this hike on the 15th of October. Provides some breathtaking views, and only takes 30-45 minutes to reach the peak. Great reward for little effort! :)
As mentioned, it can be a bit slippery. However, no ice cleats needed, just take care.

Did this hike at sunrise 10/13. We had yaktraks but didn’t need them. Quick little summit great for a morning hike from lowed by breakfast in town.

Went up today at 12:30. Beautiful snow covered trail. Good switch backs all the way up. Yaktraks were very helpful!

October 14 2018
Quite satisfied with this hike! Did it with crampons (pretty necessary) and poles (optional here), with a 8 month old toddler. We are a 32/30 years old couple with some hiking experience and moderate fitness level and it took us about 1h35 on the way up (without much photo stopping) and 1h20 on the way down. First half is easy, steady way down to the first lake, with some mud. Some pretty views of the lower lake. After the bridge the way up starts. Somewhat steep in the second half, especially at the end after you reach the dried up lake. There’s about 100m ascent left at that point over less than 500m. Then you reach the lake, nestled in the mountainside, which is quite pretty. On your way back the end of the route isnt that dispiriting since it’s quite a gradual climb. Met 2 groups of 2 in total during the whole hike, pretty deserted! Note that on the way down (or up if you prefer taking breaks) the view in the last 1/3 is quite pretty as well.

I have done this twice and I always start by walking the 7km around barrier lake up Prairie view trail and down jewels. It’s such an amazing view on a clear sky and I have hiked it once in the summer once in the winter. FYI it can get super busy on a weekend.

Arrived a few weeks ago at 630am on a Friday. Parking lot was full at that time. Amazing views of the peaks. Some of the most scenic backdrops I have seen in a larch forest. Make sure to continue to Sentinel pass for more amazing views.

Snowy but the view at the end is amazing. If you climb up, you can take the gondola down for free after 5pm during winter.

Snowy and icy! Bring your spikes for the hike and you’re good to go!

Hiked on Oct 9. The trail was snowy for the most part. Great hike overall! The clouds were overcast, but I still saw the beautiful views at the top. Prepare for more intense path inclines as you approach the summit.

Beautiful views (until the clouds came in and our heads were literally in the clouds :) ) lovely hike - very cold at the weather station when we went up. The hike is a steady climb with great reward. So much snow up there already.

Did this hike on 10/9/18 lots of ice because of the Early snowfall this past week the hike was easy and the views were spectacular a great in town hike if you just have a half a day and need something fun to do.

V nice super easy slipped a bunch icy as tits.

Really enjoyed this hike not to difficult and had great views at the top we hiked on 10/8/18 in a light snow fall lots of ice so crampons were needed to be safe.

Did this hike on Sept 29, 2018. Absolutely beautiful and relatively easy if you watch your step after the tea house, it gets a bit icy. We had to turn around after seeing an avalanche. Keep an eye out for trail reports if doing this in October.

Me and my girlfriend have just come from the UK to travel across Canada, we don't get to go out hiking anywhere as nice as this! We were probably underprepared for the snow, with some simple hiking boots, we went counter clockwise around the route, going up with the snow was fine! some nice person seemed to have cut a small trail up that we could follow without getting lost!... we thought we got to the top at the first clearing... we realised we had to scramble up a steep icy slope to get to the REAL look out, which we did! without equipment but with strong will! going down was fun! should of brought a sled though!, the snow got deeper until we hit the cross road for jewel pass, the track disappeared at this point and we followed footprints, the snow here.. was VERY deep for us, but there was no way we were turning back! fell over many times but nothing serious :) had the best time! view was beautiful, came across lots of happy people! (with equipment)
maybe stick to the first clearing at the top if you have no gear, but if you want to wade in snow! go ahead do it all! we don't regret it!

Family friendly hike, a view of the Banff townsite at the end.

This hike requires to be in a good shape.
You will find incredible views.

My friends and I we left the car in a parking lot that is located 5 minutes ago. In the parking lot there are free buses that takes you to Lake Moraine and this hike. I heard that this hike will we open until 8th October.

Hiked to the tea house in snow pack. Poles + Yaktrax on hiking boots made it manageable. Tea house closed however it was beautiful to sit and enjoy our home made hot tea from our thermos. Icicles (some falling) on the upper path; witnessed an avalanche on the lower Victoria glacier, Another group saw a bear w/ 2 cubs.

Easy hike up, even with the snow. A little slippery in places on the way down but round trip including stops for photos only took 1 hr 40 min. Beautiful views, moderately trafficked on this weekday afternoon.
