Can get icy spikes are recommended for the winter if you head past lower falls. I usually stop here and then head to the upper falls. Lots to see at Johnston Canyon

Always one of my favourites to do especially in the winter!! Will have to go up to ink pots in the summer

November 11, 2018. Beautiful canyon/river trail. Man-made trail structures throughout. If you have hiked before, this trail will not be a challenge except for the sometimes icy conditions. Good traction hiking boots are a must or a traction device (spikes/cleats) if you are not used to packed snow/icy conditions. This trail is pretty busy so do not expect to be alone with nature. Crowds aside, the canyon and falls are worth it. Enjoy!

Nov 10 beautiful frozen falls. I recommend crampons. Even good hiking boots still slip in some areas.
Washrooms are on site..

I climbed the rocks but there is a path behind it as well. Beyond belief beautiful.

The hike isn't that long and is very easy and the views are absolutely breathtaking!! Definitely the most beautiful and crystal clear lake close to Banff!! My oldest son even drank water from the lake.

Great hike, short (relatively) but uphill all the way. There had been some fresh snow when we were there, so it wasn’t too slick, but I imagine you would want crampons on a typical winter day, especially if you’re making the push past Mirror Lake to the tea house. Lake Agnes was covered and it was super windy up there, so we didn’t stay long before heading back down. Awesome views of the beehives, the valley, and Lake Louise from spots on the trail!

Nice views, but the high amount of tourists ruin this “hike.” I’d go elsewhere if your looking for something peaceful and remote.

Steady incline to the tea house (closed). Lots of packed down snow so made it slippery in spots due to the incline. Some beautiful scenery along the way looking down on Lake Louise from the trail.

Lots of snow up there yesterday. Micro-spikes/crampons were absolutely needed. Few people on the trail because of the snow.
Snow makes this more difficult to get up to the top. Both Mirror Lake and Lake Angus covered with snow.
I would like to do this again in the spring/summer.

Lake Agnes views are SPECTACULAR. Easy and heavily trafficked gravel trail with some wooden stairs. Bring cash for the tea house.

Definitely worth the trip!

Hiked on 11.1.18
Microspikes and poles up to the tea house. Heard multiple avalanches..Attempted to walk to the lookout point but turned around about 3/4 of the way due to high snow, unsure footing and avalanche risk.
Overall excellent hike had the whole area to ourselves just be prepared.

late fall is great for serenity, as I heard it gets quite busy.

10/10 waterfalls!! we went all the way to the Upper Falls. there's some icy patches to watch out for, but we did fine wearing blundstones and runners. arrived by 10AM and the parking lot still had 40% of its spaces remaining :) would go again

Great family hike that is so kid friendly this is an extremely busy from spring thaw to early September hike that is used by many different skill levels.

Great hike from Lake Louise with tons of amazing views! The trail is icy and snowy at this time of year so make sure to have spikes (and poles help too). Overall this was a great trail that had some climbing but nothing too difficult. Highly recommend!

Easy hike. Nice views and not so crowded. In parts the trail is a bit icy, but it's walkable.

Great trail. Definitely need shoe spikes, can rent in town for $9.00.

Beautiful hike...went today...it was crowded...the trail took me around an hour and a half to complete (one way)...the tea house was closed...do not go without you ice cleats..many people came in unprepared and were slipping all the time....i used my trekking poles which were very helpful specially with the descent..mirror lake and lake Agnes were frozen...the view from the top is spectacular...the difficulty of the trail is medium...prepare for weather change...take rests every once in a while...

Very beautiful little walk year round!

This was one of the first trails I did, and it was a wonderful introduction into hiking. Go early in the morning as it gets very busy (there’s a teahouse up there - not Agnes teahouse, although that’s close by) and make the extra 1km trek to go have lunch in front of lefroy and upper Victoria glacier. You’ll see a few avalanches for sure.

A hidden gem! We had gone in end-Aug with 2 yr olds and it was by no means a toddler friendly hike although our little legged ones managed to haul themselves up the path and to the narrow ledge beside the fall. The hike itself is pretty amazing and the reward of viewing the falls was worth it! If you do decide to take kids under 5 yrs, keep a darn close eye on them and keep them next to you.

Loved it even though it is fairly well traveled with other hikers. Also recommend using crampons or some such device if the Park's trail conditions reports suggest it. We did not get very far since the trails were complete ice that day but were able to enjoy some by holding onto the railings.

Crampons + a good hiking boot are a must! Snowy and icy but the views are worth it.

Easy walk with the kids and family. Keep left on the bridge colors are better in the summer, very brown and dark in the fall. Pretty scenery and great area to picnic in. Kids had fun on the bridge.

Cool hike, great views of the canyone and walking right above it on the path and grates. Very icy though, high fall risk, crampons suggested. The only problem with this hike being the amount of people there (high) and the amount of people falling and basically scrambling not to fall because of the ice.

Beautiful hike! Mirror Lake is very small and frozen now but a nice picture spot. Another half mile takes you to Lake Agnes which is also frozen but pretty. Tea house is closed but you can get a sense for its quaintness. Some steep parts of the hike and it’s snowy so you will want spikes.

Arrived a few weeks ago at 630am on a Friday. Parking lot was full at that time. Amazing views of the peaks. Some of the most scenic backdrops I have seen in a larch forest. Make sure to continue to Sentinel pass for more amazing views.
