beautiful views at the top, well groomed and nice for a quick hike

Couldn’t finish. I had decent hiking sandals on, but they were no match for the loose terrain. I perched myself as high as I could get on the trail and took in the amazing views.

I would not call this an easy hike.

Driving to the trailhead can get sketchy. Expect deep mud holes, ruts and rocks. Be careful if you drive off trail as there are natural springs and you may get stuck.

The trail from the trailhead start off easy, but will get rocky and steep. In the summer time expect lots of poison ivy. The trail is not clearly marked, so take your time. If Battle Creek is running high expect to get your feet wet.

Hippy hole itself is great. The logistics suck. If there were an easy way to get there Hippy hole would e crowded all summer long.

I helped rescue people out of the hole 3 different times. 1 person we were able to walk out
1 person took 4 hours and search and rescue to rope out in a stokes basket
1 person had to be winched out by a Blackhawk helicopter in a basket.

Have fun be safe.

As stated by most others, trail is not well marked. I saw trees with orange paint on them and metal diamonds with “50” posted on tree trunks along the actual trail... trail also coincides with spur trail, easily confused the two. Had to use AllTrails multiple times to find and stay on trail. Trail is variable in elevation and development, lots of time in dirt/grass/road. Once to Boulder Hill, moderate rock scaling to get to top. Not hard but pay attention, especially if it’s windy. Enjoyed it!

This trail is a nice addition to the park since my last visit in the early eighties. Try to catch a walk with a Ranger for some interesting facts about the monument.

Great contrast between (down the hike) the Badlands and (up the hike) the Grassland.

We had a hike with beautiful weather and a nice breeze of wind. Perfectly doable with almost no traffic on the way.

Super fun

We went clockwise on this trail. Which was all uphill for about 30 minutes but then it steadied out. It showed a lot of pine trees and some different types of vegetation throughout the trail and followed a creek. Was hopeful to see wildlife, but only saw a couple deer. The trail was a decent one. Took about 2 hours.

Hard to follow trail. Very steep

Loved this trail! Along a river with 15 ‘bridges’ that cross back and forth over the river. We were the only people on the trail.

Trail head is to the right of the gate. I totally missed it. Not very well marked. Good trail. Discarded furniture and trash and graffiti at the base of the scramble to the summit.

Hiked this trail today and loved it. It has a little of everything. I went clockwise and enjoyed the ascent in the beginning. The view at the top was breathtaking. I didn’t expect to criss cross a creek several times after the descent. It was so fun! Great trail. I moved pretty quickly and completed it in an hour and a half.

This trail is probably amazing, but inaccessible after heavy rain! Fell a few times due to mud, so just be aware that if it is super muddy, you probably won't be able to hike it :( Will go back to see it when it is not muddy! :)

Was snowing and the trail was muddy. Slogged through some running water in places.

This was a nice trail at the foothills of Mt Rushmore. Too bad half of the trail was closed for reno (closed until spring 2019). Grateful to have a ranger Dot take us on a quick guided tour of the trail to point out numerous facts about the mountain.

The view was beautiful. This national park just doesn’t rock my world so probably wouldn’t do it again.

Pretty. You can do some free climbing on the nearby wall which is quite fun and highly recommended.

Beautiful. My second favorite hike in Badlands behind saddle pass. Be sure to hike to both vistas. Towards the end the trail forks and both are worth exploring.

Very unique trail. We went out after a rain and it was extremely slick. But once we got back to the start it was dry. Rain makes for a very different trail experience. The trail crossed in front of big horned sheep that were grazing on a cliff . We did the medicine loop out and the castle trail back. This clocked in at 11.1 miles. Definitely do this early as there is very little shade and you are in full sun and wind exposure. Other than the slipperyness because of the rain it’s not hard or technical - the only hard part about it is 11 miles round-trip.

the top half was real grasslandy and windy and the bottom half was extremely badlandy

excellent contrast

loved the heck outta this trail, though it was chilly and rainy when i did it

Awesome trail for horseback riding and dogs. Definitely ideal for being on horseback as the trail is not maintained for hikers. Lots of big open spaces and pretty rivers to cross. ❤️

This trail was perfect for a low key, woodsy hike with our two older dogs. We loved walking next to the babbling brook and crossing the bridges.

Very cool we loved it! A bit crowded because it's so popular but a must in the area I think.
