Well kept, many altitude changes. Not as close to the water as it seems on the map. The pay off is the beach. We started on Morgan Mill and took the left fork which took us around to finish at Loch Raven Dr at the beach.

Perfect hike with the family and our 3 yr. old Lab.

Very nice, clean and clear paths some hills but then some levels

Had to use map to stay on trail and lots of mosquitos near the river. But a nice hike nonetheless.

Awesome trail that is very well maintained. Definitely a little confusing when you get to spots where there are other trails connected but as long as you have the map with you on your phone you’ll be good! Good variation of flat, uphill and downhills throughout the trail! Perfect for trail running if you want a moderate trail.

nice views of the river for about 40% of trail. didn't see what made it hard other than it was difficult to find some turns.

Good difficulty and length! Parking was extremely limited, but we happened to be lucky. I could see it being frustrating if you didn't get one of the ~6 spots right next to the trailhead (as it's marked on this map - there are several spots along the road where you can hop on here).

Good flexibility in terms of being able to add & cut some loops along the way - just nothing spectacular here, though it's also far from boring. My experience was also a bit colored because I was stung by a bee at snacktime...watch where you're kicking around under larger rocks. My girlfriend did find some pretty uncommon mushrooms if you're into that sort of thing!

Apparently this trail is closed now due to flooding. It was a good trail. I wanted a quick bike ride after work before the sun went down, and this trail on a bike took me much less time than I thought, so maybe better for a walk than a bike until they stop construction and open up the whole trail. The trail is nice and paved though!

A lovely gravel trail that’s perfect for walking, running, or biking. Very flat and wide trail, definitely should be rated easy instead of moderate. Also if you’d like more views of the water I’d recommended going right when you get to the split in the trail.

Try to stay away from the lower parts of the path near the river as they are very overgrown and hard to follow. Otherwise, pretty good trail IF you have this app or know your way around. Paths are not well marked.
Update: 2 days after the hike our dog got some type of bite or infection from the tall grass. Definitely not worth the hike. Advise to stay out of the grassy area!

lots of wildlife!

Apparently "At capacity", wasn't able to hike it. They also had signage saying there are current projects happening in the area effecting access.

great trail, a bit rocky but me and the Roscoe had a ball !!!!

I traveled this Aug 4th, 2018. Bring bug spray, Mosquito's were moderately bad. Trail was outlined with an obviously cleared foot/bike path and the only confusing part was a fork for blue and red. The red had a big tree across it but seemed to be in the direction I wanted so I took that route, it ended up being correct. Lots of little side trails to go down to the water. Only a couple other hikers, mostly secluded, ends at a peninsula on the river. Decent hills at about 45 degrees but nothing crazy. By crazy I mean climbing with your hands to reach the top. Small gravel parking with plenty of room away from the road and the trail begins right there at a small path at the southern corner and is about 2 or 3 people wide. You have to go around a small cable locked entrance.

This trail is closed until further notice due to flood damage.

Awesome trail close by with many different types of scenery. Loved it!

Loved it!

nice, easy hike. poorly marked in places. recommend downloading the map.

So right off the batnn the trail isn't marked well. The sign that leads into the trail, which says nothing about it actually being the trail, has a wasp nest in it. There is no sign telling you which way the trail goes, so I went to the right. Bad move, because the trail ended after a minute of running. What's even more fun, there was a nasty wasp nest hiding in the bushes, and one managed to sting me right in the neck. This trail needs to at least be marjed better, and having two wasp nests is kind of frustrating. So... at least until I come back and go the other way, this trail is not recommended. If you do go on it, watch out for the wasps.

scenic. Us and dogs enjoyed. will return

trail out about a mile in due to the rains, blew out a culvert

Nice wooded trail around Lake Roland. Mostly flat with options for more hilly treks.

Awesome trail, but poorly marked. I got lost and had to back track twice. Aside from that the trail is beautiful and the burgers at the Woodstock Inn are amazing.

*** FLOOD CONDITIONS ON THE BALTIMORE. COUNTY. SIDE ***
Today, I hiked the park road on one side of the park heading to the Glen Artney side of the Avalon section. - My pictures depict the damage on that side. - Only a few trails on that side are OPEN. - You can drive up to the Soapstone trail head and hike your way up to S. Rolling Rd. but the trail has a few detours. - The Inner Soapstone trail along Glen Artney Rd. is CLOSED. The Bull Run trail is also OPEN. - If you park up at the Fire Rd. you can hike the Santee towards the Hilton Area but trails leading to the Grist Mill are CLOSED. - The 2-mile Grist Mill trail is CLOSED and will be for the rest of the year. - All the footbridges are washed away. - The parking lot at the Lost Lake Pond is CLOSED. - It was a iffy day with the weather so I hiked the road knowing I could take shelter if needed. - The skies looked bad but the rain never came. - The ( Left ) Howard County side is ALL OPEN. Enjoy !!

The trail along the waters edge is quite rocky. - Lots of roots to trip over in that section too. - All the trails in this area are not marked very well so carry a backup map and be sure to use your All/Trails App. - To many Yellow trails. - If you are coming on a weekend, go early or late because parking is limited. -- The trails are well defined but not much maintenance is being done here. – Very overgrown so beware of Ticks. No access to drinking water so be sure to carry plenty. If you get it from the upper stream it’s best to Filter it. Better save then sorry.

Great location, beautiful quiet trails , good variety of trails.

Muddy and busy. Too many muscle heads wearing weighted vests trying to rough it on the few easy inclines. The river is pretty and there are some nice paths thru green forests. Better off going elsewhere.

Really beautiful trail but warning if you are trying it in July 2018 because all the rain we got has made the trail really muddy. Also I had to turn around about only a mile in because of a down tree blocking the trail. Will definitely come back during a drier time. Happy hiking!
