Loved this hike! Beautiful as the trail ascends through the forest. Two steep parts, one about1-2 miles in and the ascent to the lake. A small and bigger waterfall and a few stream crossings, love the water! I have two dogs and needed water in addition to my 3 liter camelback. The lake is beautiful and quiet. My dogs loved it too!

I gave it four stars instead of five because I didn’t see many flowers. I’m relatively new to hiking and would say it was a moderate hike with a steady climb but not too steep. Our dog loved the little streams and the lake. Very open - no shade so it was warm at times.

Great hike to take visitors too because the views are epic and it’s only an hour from Denver! Wildflowers, big mountain view’s of Bierdstadt and Evans and a mountain lake that’s warm enough to hop in!

Nice, fairly easy trail with some great views, and the lakes are worth it. Got there a little before 8am on a weekday and pretty much had the trail to myself for the most part, a little busier on the way out. Tried to go a bit further on up towards Square Top Mountain, but the trail gets pretty faint after it breaks off so didn’t try too far. Would recommend!

Got to the parking lot at 8:30am and had no trouble finding parking. The trail was fairly empty, a lot more people coming in as we were heading back around 11am.

Highly recommend for a lake hike without a lot of people.

Great hike! Got up super early to be the first one on the trail! Amazing views I took my time and still only saw 4 people on the way down. Not bad! Would totally do this one again! So beautiful!

Took my 6 Year Old daughter yesterday for an after work hike. Spent about 3 hours exploring. Very easy hike for kids if they are used to getting out for longer periods of time. Tell them you're searching for gold and silver. Trail was pretty dead at about 3:45pm and will definitely do again.

One of my all time favorite hikes that I started when I was 35. Now at 67 it's a bit tougher but still able to hike and fish the lake. Horrible road going in but other than that perfect hiking conditions and unbelievable wild flowers. Very clear water at the lake and brilliant red cutthroats

First hike since moving to Denver and it really was an excellent way to begin. The wild flowers were amazing and their were many spots to take in fantastic views. Fair hike with my wife and friend. Highly suggest for a day trip.

extremely beautiful and nothing like i’ve seen before. i loved the plentiful wildflowers. can be challenging at some points. we only made it to the first lake as it started to rain, but it was very pretty. i was surprised at how many people there were up near the parking lot for a Tuesday in the late morning. all in all, a very great experience and good exercise.

Agree it’s a longer hike then stated. Easy start at a “high point” from trail head off Guanella Pass road. Loved the wildflowers and beautiful high mountain lakes. You will walk through high brush (3’ ish) on a few narrow sections-some individuals may want to have shoulders/arms covered. Enjoyed a taste of “watermelon” snow. Hiked with pups and tween/teen kiddos made it to 13er of SquareTop and rewarded with beautiful above tree line views that went on for miles. Looked down on SilverLake trail. Trail to peaks has a few cairns, but mind your path and keep your wits to make it to the top. No technical spots to reach top. Went during the week no problems parking, but encountered a large group coming down as we were going in at late morning and several hikers on way out in late afternoon. Enjoy!

Gorgeous trail. Flowers were indeed exploding. 20 yrs in Colorado and never seen so many columbines. Not just bunches but am entire field. Road is in pretty bad shape but navigable in a car. However, I do not recommend it. The hike elevation profile is a bit deceptive. It is not a steady climb. You get about 40% of the elevation gain in about three quarters of a mile of travel. The two steep sections are really steep. A very fit person can go out and back in about three and a half hours. The rest of us will need over four. However, to really enjoy it, go slow to enjoy the scenery plan to spend five.

Nice hike but misleading description. The new trailhead adds considerable distance to the stated mileage. I would say it’s at least 9 RT. First part very steep and rocky then gradual incline but still rocky along the valley through the trees until the final steep part up to the lake. At timberline the wild flowers exploded. This was the highlight of the hike in my opinion. Yes there is a lake and it’s clear but the flowers—wow! Oh and the road is terrible the whole way. There were 2wd cars and vans and even camping trailers all along the way but I wouldn’t do that road without higher ground clearance.

RT is closer to 4.8 miles. AllTrails consistently underestimates most hikes. That said, it's a relatively modest hike above the treeline that offers up two alpine lakes, with a mountain backdrop and beautiful wildflowers along the way. Some will find it easy, others hard, depending on acclimation to elevation and your fitness level.

The best viewings of flowers occurred along the far side of the second lake.

We hiked Saturday and lucked into a parking place next to the trailhead around 8:30 am. If parking lot is full, spots are available along the road.

great hike. Did the first week of June 2018, last water mile had to walk around/through some snow wasn't bad just make sure to not lose the trail. very lightly trafficked. we started at 730am and were the first ones up and saw three groups on the way down. would deffinetly do again.

10/10! The wildflowers were absolutely phenomenal, best this Colorado girl has ever seen! The hike had an epic trifecta of wildflowers, streams and alpine vistas with an undulating trail - not straight up or downhill. Just the right amount of challenge. The lakes were really nice too.

1.9 miles to the lower lake, a few hundred feet of gain. Then you can journey on to the upper lake or summit Square Top Mountain (13,806’). The wildflowers were at peak this weekend! Beautiful and peaceful spot. Keep in mind that the trailhead parking is shared with people hiking Mt Bierstadt (Fourteener) so either get there super early, or go late afternoon to get a spot from someone coming off the peak.

Just got back from this pretty hike , lots and lots of wildflowers . The first mile had me so out of breath I couldn’t enjoy the views !! LOL when you cross the boulder field there is a huge flat one to take in the first of many scenic views ! The upper stretches are very scenic with the clear lake. A must for the avid mountain hiker

A pretty gradual incline the whole way to the lake. A couple spots are steeper than others, but pretty moderate overall. There are some standing water areas near the creek, which are home to swarms of mosquitos and other bugs. Just keep moving and you’ll get through them pretty quick. The lake was gorgeous. Above the tree line, crystal clear water with plenty of fish to see. Clouds build in the afternoon (during the summer months) so be aware of potential thunderstorms when you’re above the tree line. Otherwise, enjoy this hike!

(If you’re in it for the potential fitness aspect, I burned about 1300 kcals in 3.5 hours doing this hike.)

A very beautiful trail. Starts off in some dense trees and then opens up to a beautiful bowl above tree line. There were so many different kinds of wild flowers that just made you notice them and they were along most of the trail the whole day. When we got to the top the lake is so clear I could see 12 trout just hovering near the shoreline. Will definitely hike again. It is a bit rocky and probably should have worn my boots, but I got by with just some trail runners but use your own judgment. Some steep loose rock incline sections that can be a bit on the slippery side.

As far as mountain lake hikes go, this was pretty unexciting. However, the wildflowers, as mentioned, are out of this world right now! It is also right next to the Square Top Mountain summit trail if you want to bag a fairly quick 13er. Great views of Bierstadt and surrounding mountains behind Square Top.

So many wildflowers today. The entire trail is exposed bring lots of sun block. Great short hike and not much elevation gain but when it does it is steep and loose in places. Awesome view of Beirdstadt.

Beautiful wildflowers and not that many hikers! The pup loved it!

Beautiful trail with good views. We didn't see a single person until we were on our way down (started up at 8am). Plenty of parking.

I went this morning - lots of varities of wildflowers everywhere! Beautiful views all around. Unfortunately, I didn't make it all the way to the lakes because the clouds moved in and there was lightning (around 8:30am).

Overall great hike, great view and decent camping for backpacking. Road was a little rough to get there and the trail had a little bit of water from the snow melt but no water shoes required. Absolutely sick

Such a beautiful trail. I was honestly stunned by the beauty and wild flowers. toward the first lake it was super windy, but worth it.

Amazing hike with beautiful wildflowers, lakes and streams. Not too far from Denver and right outside Georgetown. Definitely a must stop!

Completed this trail 10 June 2018. I do this trail once or twice a year and always love it. Because we had a dry winter there isn’t as much snowpack as previous years.

The trailhead used to start next to a mound of black rocks, but they have opened a parking lot that you pass before this.

No snow until after the large river crossing. Nothing too bad until the top, near the summit.

Your feet will get wet, be prepared.

Follow footsteps in snowpack to reach the Lake.

Another beautiful hike, will be beautiful in about a month when wildflowers are in full bloom.
