HikingGreat!

I did the icehouse route to timber mountain. As of 3/7/21 there is still snow at the top. The views from the peak or worth it. Most hike to the saddle and not to the peak. Traffic on the trail was moderate once you get a 2 or 3 miles up. Great hike but not a beginners hike.

Attempted to do this on 3/6/21. There was lots of snow and ice and the path wasn’t clear, so we turned back about 0.5 miles after the saddle. If you plan to do it, make sure to bring microspikes and poles!

Gorgeous views, but will definitely be a workout. Requires an adventure pass for parking and a wilderness permit (there's a form online you should fill out days before). Trail was easy to navigate up to icehouse saddle, but was covered in snow/ice to Cucamonga peak. Not the most even terrain, with lots of rocks/snow. Crampons recommended!

The trail up to the Ice House saddle is great. Going past the saddle was icy. Micro spikes or crampons and poles are definitely helpful. There are multiple broken snow trails leading to the top of Cucamonga peak. I met with a couple at Cucamonga peak and decided to join them on a hike to Big Horn on the way down. Lots of snow and ice but the trails were manageable. With the snow it took a total of 8 hours for 12 miles. Weather was great up top not windy at all. It was cold and windy at ice house saddle on the way up but calm on the way down. Great hike overall.

Hiked on 2/21/2021. Summited around 10:30 am and view from the peak was super and rewarding as always. As others mentioned, though clear sky and relatively warm temp, trail beyond Saddle was extreme hard for less experienced hikers. Crampons or micro spikes is a must. Often no trace, blown by high wind, or you will see confusing footsteps toward off trail here and there. Experiences to the peak in non snow season would be great help to locate where you are. Be serious.

02/21/21 It was good I have done hike a few times before but not with as much snow . Granted it was mostly melted. If you do go you should bring crampons unless your good with hiking on ice without them. Go early parking is always full.

2/21/2021, sunny and nice day. Pretty easy and dry up to the saddle. With reading other fellow hikers review I thought the second part would not be super hard to follow. However after begin of switchback there were several spots by following others footrack I could tell I was completely off trail. Towards last couple of switchbacks before the final push up for the peak, it looked like totally white out! If you want to do this trip at this time of the year under snow condition, make sure you have the traction devices, wear enough layers and gloves, have capability to orient with some GPS especially after you realized you are off, don’t panic and come back! Slow and be careful, you should be fine. The view at the top was always gorgeous.

2/14/21. After IceHouse saddle: Crampons or microspikes highly recommended. Axe and gators also nice. I only postholed a few times to my knee when I got off trail. All north facing slopes have a good snowpack. South facing slopes mostly snowy and slushy, a few bare patches. Trail is 95% snow so gear up at saddle and keep it on. Trail is mostly easy to follow. I would not recommend this being your 1st time to Cucamonga or 1st winter hike. There are plenty of places you can slide down mountain. No one has ventured past Cucamonga. My plan was Etiwanda, but those postholes changed my mind. Maybe next week with snowshoes. And I froze my butt off coming down. It was super windy and cold on north face of Cucamonga.

2/11- crampons needed after icehouse saddle, beautiful weather. Trail was a little hard to follow bc a lot of snow tracks cut switchbacks. Had summit to myself then only couple of others on my way down!
