First of all, this was a very short hike. The cave floor is full of broken glass so don't go bare foot. The cave has some graffiti. Could not climb down due to tide. When you reach the fork roughly half way, go LEFT. Nice hike to take someone new.

We walked from the north end of Pismo Beach to the dunes south of the Monarch preserve for a total of 6.2 miles round trip. The beach wasn’t crowded and it’s beautiful—cliffs, rocks, a few tide pool areas, surfers, waves, birds and dunes. Just skip the trek into Pismo and stay on the beach. It’s really a beautiful beach area.

So beautiful. Pretty steep incline but well worth the trip for the stunning views. Cute swing at the top for a photo op.

The good: great views all around.
Why I would not do this trail again, or for the first time if I knew, is mainly the road noise. Also, it's the strenuous side of moderate, as has been noted. It's very steep for a fairly prolonged period. That doesn't bother me so much if I knew going in. There is very little shade. We parked at Pirates' Cove, and went along the Bluff Drive. Go left at the humongous yellow/gold house, that has a chain across what looks like a driveway. It's not the driveway. There's a little sign that looks like a dog print that says "keep our nature trail clean." That's how you know where the trail is. The easier way is if you go on the left trail that goes up from there. We went to the right, and the "up" when you turn is actually a bit scary, it's so steep and along a ridge. I may be in the minority about this trail, most people seem to love it, but... I'm not a fan.

Best views are at the very beginning then it’s not very exciting after that.

Park in small lot adjacent to trailhead. This is an easy to moderate hike depending on trails you follow. You can make as difficult as you want by going uphill faster or slower, a lot of it is through sand trail. I started at 4 and it was warm but there was a breeze which kept it cool. Bugs can be a problem, suggest repellent.

Um... this was very difficult if you are a new hiker. Reviews didn’t adequately prepare for this shit, as y’all probably have killer calves and fancy hiking boots. Just when I thought I had hit the highest point and climbed the steepest hill, another was there, staring me down, proving me wrong. People were laughing on this hike. I was just attempting to breathe. The final decent on the way down to pirates cove is an absolute joke. A straight 90 degree angle. If you didn’t have bad knees yet, now you will. They should provide sleds to get down. I decided to just ride it down on my ass since I kept falling on it anyway.

Long story short, most beautiful views on the coast guaranteed, but don’t let these meatheads tell you it’s easy.

Park in small lot for parking, don't leave valuables in plain site. This is an easy hike which you can make as difficult as you want by going uphill from Pirates Cove. Tide was high so I did not go down onto beach. People were camping inside the cave which is not legal but they did not bother me. There was no wind so it was going to get how there in afternoon. This is a great hike to start out your day.

Nice

This an moderate hike and the views are spectacular of the Central Coast and some Pacific Ocean. This hike is well worth doing, best in the spring when everything is blooming and it is not too hot, it was foggy on this particular day over the coast so could not see Morro Bay. This trail has both ticks and Poison oak as hazards if you get too close to the sides or go off trail. Rattlesnakes are very common here and warnings are out for Mountain Lions.
Ran into the Laguna Junior High Cross country team towards the end which was a shocker as I had the trail all to myself until I heard them coming! Narrow trail makes that more difficult.

Bishop Peak Trail from Highland Drive is an easy hike and the views are spectacular of the Central Coast. This hike of Bishop Peak Trail from Highland Drive is well worth doing, great all year long, maybe not so much in rainy season. This video was shot in the summer so very little of both ticks and Poison oak as hazards if you don't get too close to the sides or go off trail. Lots of wildlife if you look for it, mostly squirrels and rabbits so hawks can always be present.

Cerro San Luis is an easy hike and the views are spectacular of the Central Coast, this is easily the busiest trail in the area so be prepared for hikers, runners and bikers. This hike of Cerro San Luis is well worth doing, best in the spring when everything is blooming and it is not too hot. This trail can have both ticks and Poison Oak as hazards if you get too close to the sides or go off trail.

The Shell Beach Bluffs and Ontario Ridge Trail is an tough hike in spots however the views are spectacular of the Central Coast and Pacific Ocean. This hike of of the Shell Beach Bluffs and Ontario Ridge Trail is well worth doing, great all year long, maybe not so much in rainy season. This video was shot in the summer so very little bird life as compared to winter. Lots of wildlife if you look for it, mostly squirrels and rabbits so hawks can always be present. Many vultures soaring overhead.

Great hike on a beautiful afternoon, trail is in good shape and weeds have been cut back.
Park in small lot at end of Marsh Street in SLO. This is an easy hike which you can make as difficult as you want by going uphill at any time to top of Cerro San Luis. There was no wind and it was foggy so it was cool, so it was going to get hot there in afternoon when it cleared. This is a great hike to start out your day.

Enjoyed this one! It wasn't the one we had originally planned on, but it had great views like others have said. The beginning is a little steep, but it levels off and is well-shaded through the last half going back down. A great, short hike.

Started from the small parking lot at the trail marked “exercise trail” it was fun but not marked well. The view from the top is amazing!

A bit dusty at points and a steep incline and descent that would be difficult to navigate without the appropriate footwear. Watch out for 2 swings near the cell towers.

Best views in town!

Great, peaceful walk that can be shortened by driving to close to top. Great for showing family and friends views of Morro Bay.

Great afternoon hike! Most is on a clearly defined, wide trail, although there are smaller paths if you want. It is worth hiking to the very top (there is a pole to define it). Great overview of SLO!

So much fun! The climb up (west end) was gnarly - dry loose soil + loose gravel + steep AF made more a scary incline. But once we started, downwards was hella scarier than upwards (and the folks headed down looked pretty scared!). The ridge itself was really good - fabulous views above the clouds. The climb down (east end) was just a tiny bit scary.

Would have been nice if we didn’t get attacked and consumed by mosquitos. Tried to enjoy an early morning hike, but there was no visibility of the bay due to fog. Could have been nice, but I wouldn’t know.

This hike is logged as 2.3 miles if you take it from the campground entrance. There is another parking lot towards the top of the trail and that is why some may say it’s a quick trail.

Trail is not marked very well and a bit confusing. Going up the trail, there were other unmarked trails which we later learned were Grove Trail and Pipeline Trail. When we were going down, we ended up in the middle of the golf course because we did not go far enough. We ended up walking
along the street near the Inn at Morro Bay to get back to the parking lot just outside the entrance of the campground.

View at the top is amazing with a nice view of The Rock.

All together spent 8 hours, started at church scrambled up loose rocks to properly insert myself on trail, I'm still sore! Came down near Costco went into wholefoods had dinner. Great views, great training exercise. Used Aveenza offline map app works great.

Gorgeous views of Pirate's Cove and the coastline, north and south. It's steep going up and down no matter which way you go, but well worth it.

U have to use a rope to get down the beach and the breeze towards the cave is nice. Was about to go through the top area of the cave however we ran into a garter snake, looks full grown and decided not to go. Usually bad luck (superstitious beliefs)

We went the bottom half, got lost in residential area and then the last part was coming down the hill from the top of the map. I recommend going this way. The hills are steep, bring good hiking shoes and stretch.
