This trail was not what I expected. You will cross the backtop going up and over the dam. I used this app’s map to guide me on this hike. I got confused a few times since my directional since is not the best. You will have a few areas where you may feel like giving up, and the mileage on this trail is what you make of it. I ended up hiking 28.43 miles total over 12h 35m 33s time period. This is something I would have never ever done on my own accord. I this was something I felt led to do. All I can say is be prepared for this walk. I had 2 gallons of water in my pack that lasted me the entire walk. My post below was after my walk to my social media platforms. This was an experience I will never forget or ever do again

Nothing moderate about this trail - it's easy. Great scenery, plenty of space, and well groomed non-technical dirt trail. Some sections are engineered (boardwalk, paved). In addition, plenty of options to add on distance if you're looking for a longer day. I ran 7 miles out from Barton Creek Pool lot and could have completed the loop at probably 8-9 miles. Just note - if you park at the pool, there is a $5 fee after 8am.

Fun trail and well marked. Ran the first three miles during the early morning hours with light trail traffic. For runners, I would recommend trail shoes as some sections were a bit technical (rocks, roots, unstable footing). If you are looking for a trail where you don't need to watch your step, I'd recommend the Lady Bird Trail.

Great hiking trail active families with younger kids.
Watch out for mountain bikers, as there are loads.
Also took the pup, loads of shade on many trails.
It was our first time and we will be back!

shaded trees and water trails. lots of trails to walk around.

The homestead Trail was nearly impossible to find. I went out there once before and couldn't find it at all. I went out there second time with my cell phone that had a GPS map on it, and I almost missed it again. My friend and I walked down it a little bit and it's really overgrown. We turned around after about a half-mile because there was a huge spider webs crossing the trail with a huge spider on it. We figured is that was at the beginning of the trail, where most people probably walked, it was just going to get really primitive later on. The Onion Creek Trail, which we did only that loop instead of doing both loops, was nice but a little boring.

Loved this trail, great views and a couple nice waterfalls at the end of the trail! Plan on going back more often.

As an in-town, beautiful, easy access trail, it’s about as good as they come.

my favorite place in Texas <3 great views and easy trails. plenty of places to cool off too.

Good trail, make sure to take plenty of water. There’s a long stretch, about 4 miles or so along the north side without any shade so plan to get as much done in the morning as possible and take a siesta. Don’t wait too long, though, because the trails near the dam are difficult to navigate in the dark when your phone dies because you left it sitting in the sun (oops). Signage is also off from my gps in varied amounts. I think only one mile marker was accurate. All in all a good challenging hike, beautiful views and varied terrain!

Easy relaxing walk...would be a great place to go fishing if there were not so many families swimming. The waterfalls were non-existing due to lack of rain. Trail was EASY! Trails were not marked so it was hard to tell which trail you were on. Lots of people. And this was on a Monday afternoon walk.

Excellent urban multiuse with tons of smiles given and taken

Nice and wide. Does a loop so you return to your starting point.

Nice for a leisurely walk with your pet, decent scenery. Not my favorite of the choices of hiking around Austin, but the falls were nice.

Very well maintained and the trail markings are great. A lot of benches here and there. Quite a few steps and Rocky areas but the overlooks totally make up for it. I suggest making a visit to the waterfall. it's pretty cool but not much water.

Always take enough water or a filtering system. No potable water on the south side. Cell phone coverage if you get into trouble. Tough mountain biking. Fastest of the fast about 3 hours. Mortals 4-5.

Great park & walk this morning.

nice weekend backpacking trial. plan on carrying some water and a filter. you will only be able to get to the lake in a few spots without a fight. trial was in good condition. this is not for someone looking for a remote trial. glad I did it, now on to the next.

Just hiked the trail. I am not impressed by trail conditions. Most parts of trail are not well maintained, sign is not cleared. Will not recommend to hike at summer day. At least half trail has no shade. If you do, do carry lots of water.

I run this trail frequently. Fairly easy terrain. Not much shade in the summer. Porta-potties at trailhead. Also note: no dogs allowed on or off leash.

it's nice.

Awesome trail for beginners. Lots of varying terrain including nice stretches of open, moderately roller coasteresqe hardpack with manageable but challenging (for begginers) semi sharp turns/switchbacks and steep rocky/rooted inclines/declines. The guide indicates a 1.3 mile trail but it's considerably more with all of the interconnected sidetrails of which their are quite a few. This will be my go to trail until I'm ready for the more technically difficult challenge of Brushy Creek (where I spent half of my time pushing my bike/or on the ground).

I had good time running this trail, it's easy to get a little turned around but there's no way to get off the trail. it's a wildlife and nature preserve so it's quite clear where the dont want you to go. The creek is pretty and it really makes you feel like you're away from the city.

Hiked all the trails forwards and backwards. As always, this trail system delivers the "outdoors hiking" goods.

Parking on a Sunday was more of a challenge than the actual hike! It’s next to Barton Springs city pool. Place was jam packed at the pool and their were a lot of people on the trail. The trail leads to mountain climbing areas, small water holes, small observation cliffs. There was a really nice place where a couple found a random lone tree in a pebbled creek and we’re having a picnic. The biggest issues are the bikers on the trail. I passed about 11 of them and only one warned me that they were behind me. The rest were zipping by liked they owned the place. No heads up, no head count if they were in a pack, and going too fast on lose gravel.

Beautiful, natural scenery. Mountain bike trails range from easy to difficult. Can be busy at times.
