Very rocky and very narrow- you’re walking along a ridge the whole way. This is fine until nature calls... Bathrooms definitely needed attention. Both stalls did not have toilet paper and smelled beyond awful.

Well-maintained, moderately challenging trail! The lookout and AT portion of the trail were fantastic. 3 stars only due to lack of views/falls/etc. Took myself, my husband, and our 2 dogs a little over 2 hours.

Great trail. If you take a dog please take water. Only one spot that has free flowing water.

Good trail crossing AT twice on the loop. When we started this morning there was dense early morning fog but overall the trail was in good shape.

BackpackingGreat!

Trail is moderately difficult, but not too long. Campsites on the summit are great, bear boxes and fresh spring water available. Perfect one night backpacking trip

The loop was the perfect level of challenge for our family, including our 2-year-old, who hiked 2 miles on her own. It was actually 5.1 miles (not the 4.1 listed in the description). We gave it 3 stars because there was only one vista/overlook (maybe more in the fall), and, although there were a few creeks to cross over, we reserve 5 stars for waterfalls and an overlook. However, it was well-maintained with a lot of local flora to enjoy. We will definitely be back, and I would definitely recommend this trail for families.

Beautiful day with few other ppl in the trail. Parked in the lot near the trailhead for the BMT and the trail up to springer mtn. Made the loop. Loved the water crossings. Views were disrupted by the summer growth, better in winter. Stayed cool for the hike though. Great day to have the top off the Jeep!

I have a question hikers. I’m new to this and was wondering......Is it 3 miles to the peak, or 1 & 1/2 miles. Just curious if I’m in for a 3 mile hike or a 6 mile hike;)

This is a great hike! Weather was fantastic and the trail is in great shape. We passed a couple of friendly volunteers (see pis) who had just cleared a fallen tree across the trail. The whole Benton McKay Hiking system compliments the AT. This loop shares about a mile of the AT and has access to the summit of Springer Mountain which is the Southern Terminus of the AT. Saw lots of hikers, both beginning their AT challenge and just doing the Loop like us.

Awesome trail, with beautiful waterfalls along the path. Would rate this more as moderate. Make sure you don’t miss Ramrock it’s not marked.

Very easy trail. There were some muddy spots but it did rain the night before. It was nice to just hear the river flowing for the first mile or so.

HikingGreat!

Great trail! Walked the trail counter clockwise and made the quick jaunt up to the summit of Springer to have a pic nic lunch with the family. That adds about another mile (~1/2 mile up and back, but worth it). As we came down from Springer and hooked up to the Benton MacKaye for the loop, we walked past tons of ripe wild black berries, flowers, and. tons of butterflies. So gorgeous. The trail was very well maintained, especially the “Springer side” of FS42. The “overlook” would also be a great spot for a pic nic or snack break and has really great views. Once we crossed FS42, the trail was a bit more over grown, but still in great shape. The stream crossings were a treat. We hiked with the whole family, including the dog. The kids were ages 7, 9, and 11 and they loved it. Not a difficult hike for a family with young kids, but pack plenty of snacks and water.
