This was fun to combine with running the brush creek trail and a little of the oak creek trail for a full circle 6 plus miles.

I loved it. A panting, sweaty, water guzzling man advised I’d be better off doing an easier run at the one mile marker (swing). As he was about to turn back down looking exhausted, I kindly said thanks for the tip and kept going up. My two cents for whatever it’s worth, the top is beautiful and running back down felt amazing.

We only made it out to the bench but it was very pretty. We had the idea to get there for sunset, but it was a cloudy day and didn’t see a great one. But it would be a good spot.

Round trip about 2.5 hours. Beautiful view at the top and the waterfall was amazing. As of today, no snow or slippery areas. Parking was easy too!

One of our favorite hikes! So beautiful and lush in the way up, with excellent views of Aspen and the mountains behind on the way down. This is one we repeat every time we're in town.

Somewhat difficult if not in shape or lowlander. Views were gorgeous south pines and aspens. 2 areas of scree to maneuver but just take your time and don't rush. Remember to start down before sun starts to set for light on the way down.

I did this hike about 3 weeks ago with my friend. Lots of up. Has a very cool look-out rock over Aspen. The trail goes all the way up to the ski lodge. Just our luck the lodge was open, but the bar was closed.

Beautiful hike until you get to the top and everyone and their mom rode the gondola up.

One of my favorite hikes. Perfect time right now with gold aspen leaves. The first 6 switchbacks thru the Aspens are worth it and then the climb thru the pines and meadows is even better. Be on bear alert.

No one in reviews has mentioned car parking so forgive me if it's just me. Parked in car park at sign Hunter Valley Trail. (The first 200m shared with the Grande town walk). It wasn't until I got back to car I saw signs saying No Car Parking for Hunter Valley Trail. For the sake of this review, I drove around, thought I had found park on other side of road but this had same dire warning about car being hauled away. Just be careful because I couldn't find parking.
As for trail, didn't do Alltrails loop as shown, just kept going up the valley keeping left all the time. Fantastic views of valley for last hour where trail eventually trail finishes in dead end. Did out and back to avoid finish on road shown on the loop trail. Highly recommend this hike despite tough start.

Tough trail, definitely a beautiful lake. Not sure I’d need to do it again.

Couple of practical points. Access TH by parking car In Tiehack Express Gondola on RIGHT hand side of road. From there walk 200m up the road. The start on right of road has none of usual markings other than the words GOVT TR on a post forming end of a wooden fence. Easy to miss. The trail opens out onto a meadow. There are no trail markings here at all. When you come out on meadow keep left until get to back of a blue sign (EAGLE HILL).Keep right here up unmarked trail not on d
vehicle track. Same at the end of this very short section, keep right on unmarked trail. From then on trail is self evident.
Great walk not too strenuous with some great views. Don let the sign at the start of the back country put you off. red notice with deaths head skull warning of danger to life. It may be a possibility but not a certainty as the sign implies.
Main danger is from wildlife (on two wheels). Why do these bikers always give the impression they are on mission either to set a PB or qualify for the olympics. Nothing must stand in their way so stand aside. None of the normal courtesies apply like, let's make passing each other a joint enterprise.
don't let that spoil what is overall a great hike at least for the first 3 hours before I headed back.

A great trail, but be prepared for some elevation gain. There was a mix of aspen stands and conifer forest. The lake is beautiful and totally worth the time spent on the trail.

Up hill most of the way up. Switchbacks galore. Challenging but great little hike, saw lots of wildlife. Be aware, it’s hunting season. Throw on some orange!

Great hike...tough and really steep most of the way up. Beautiful views. Glad I did it.

Hunter Creek Trail is not a loop! The actual Hunter Creek Trail is out and back. In order to make a loop you turn off to multiple other trails and even include hiking on paved road. Silly to call this hike a loop. The actual Hunter Creek Trail is worth hiking..beautiful rushing stream..rocky, inclined hike.

This is a beautiful Trail but it does intermingle with various mountain biking trails. I hiked up the mountain in the signage going up is very poor without a GPS you'll likely not to stay on the trail. Coming down you can obviously see where the trail goes. So many of the trails intermingle here that it's hard to stay on just one. There is a Sierra loop trail that is very well-covered and green and lush. There are other parts of the trail where you're simply walking on a forest service road.this would be an amazing sun ride or sun set hike. we started hiking it at 7 in the morning and only saw one other person hiking the same Trail. At 9am the downhill mountain bikers began and they littered the mountain.

It tricked my watch! Shorter than the app posted!

Only gave it 4 starts because I didn’t get to see the end of the trail. Was the first out there and have seen animal droppings and tracks. including bear and deer. Had to turn around because my family’s waiting for breakfast.

Beautiful hike the entire way. It took us 3.5 hours round trip. Well worth the effort. Just a friendly reminder to bring moleskin for blisters!

Tourist trap. Comparable to Boulder’s Sanitas but with a looser and more narrow trail, heavier crowds, less shade, essentially nothing worth hiking to/seeing unless you just want a killer calf workout. Easily the worst hike I’ve done in Colorado.

Best views are at the front half of the hike. The creek at the end is great for little kids. Mostly open.

Great hike up to the 3.0 mike mark. Up to that point really nice blend of single track, nicely shaded trail and a river at the start and after two miles. After 3.0 miles trees are down and it is very hard to pass or even tell where the trail goes. However, before you get there could not recommend the Difficult trail more!

Hiked it today with family, 4 hrs round trip including 30 mins for lunch, vertical comes at you fast in first hour, but manageable if you stay aerobic. This was my fourth or fifth time hiking American Lake, great for our first day, family in from East Coast, I came from the Okanagan in Canada. Certainly not one of the prettiest alpine lakes I have hiked to, in my opinion if the American Lake hike workout is your goal, do Cathedral instead

A great hike, incredible views and very strenuous. I thought I was doing well till a dog with 3 legs passed me up.....made it to the top & took gondola down.... best option.

Moderate, shirt hike with beautiful vistas! Would recommend!

The first part of the hike was shaded but then after a while it got pretty hot. Also at the end we had some trouble finding the trail. Over all we thought the hike was fun for our family.

Great hike. Loved views and refreshing swim in lake. Only few people on the trail so we felt like we had it all to ourselves.
