Hard but short hike up! Totally worth it a

The view was worth the hike!

It was a little longer than a mile, honestly wasn’t worth it. It was beautiful, don’t get me wrong but it’s so small and the fact you can’t swim in it anymore makes it out for a little disappointing. Other than that the trail has 7 bridges you cross before you get to the end, was super rocky and the scenic views were gorgeous.

We were told by the bus driver that Crater Lake was a lot more dried up this year, and that was completely obvious once we saw the lake. I’m sure it would have been a lot more attractive if the water were higher. But pretty views throughout the hike! Saw a ton of families, so should be doable for most kiddos. And if you have a dog, they’ll probably enjoy cooling off in the lake at the top.

I’m physically active so I thought the trail itself was mostly easy, but we flew in from GA ~18 hours before the hike and I definitely felt some negative affects of the altitude adjustment. If you’re not used to high altitudes, bring plenty of water and remember to take deep breaths.

excellent hike. beautiful

Really awesome hike - short but steep and worth it. Saw a snake around 1 pm today. Definitely got lucky with parking!

Arrived at the trailhead around 4:45PM on Friday. Easy climb With most traffic coming down as we were going up. Only another 6 people at the lake at the same time. Still pretty, but looking rough. Since I was there in 2013 the lake is not as clean with trash was floating on the surface and foam covering the water up to about 10’ from shore. Disappointed and don’t expect to be back.

A Hike With History-
Get ready for a little American history of the old West. Take a short walk up to the top of Potter’s Field in the town Glenwood Springs and discover some interesting history of some famous and not-so-famous folks. Besides the memorial of Doc Holliday and Kid Curry, you’ll see markers of those who served in the early wars and even a family of serial killers who ran a hotel. The hike is short, and there are some moderately steep sections, but they are few and you are rewarded with a nice view of the town of Glenwood Springs below.

Only gave it 4 starts because I didn’t get to see the end of the trail. Was the first out there and have seen animal droppings and tracks. including bear and deer. Had to turn around because my family’s waiting for breakfast.

Pretty. Parking not an issue before 7am on a Saturday, and a lot less people to contend with. I have to say one of the best things about this is that no dogs are allowed on the trail. So rare to hike a mile without seeing a single poop bag or someone's special exception running around off leash.

Hiking back down around 9 there was a steady flow of people making their way to the top and the rangers were only allowing one car in when another car would leave.

The lake is amazing......such an unexpected "tropical" wonder in the mountains!!! Parking was very tough and the trail was a bit crowded- but well worth it!!!

Great hike! The views were amazing! Totally worth the climb.

The hike is great, lake is underwhelming. Views along the hike are awesome.

I would highly recommend taking the spur hike off the paved path. It can get a bit steep, but the views are astounding. I think we only did ~3.6 miles roundtrip since we deemed it unsafe to continue with the baby on my back. However, without the baby I would have continued to the top - it is a bit steep.

For those of us not used to the altitude (we are from GA) this was a pretty difficult hike on the way to Crater Lake. Mostly uphill and very rocky. Took about an hour hike to get to Crater Lake but the view was gorgeous! Plan on packing a lunch or snacks and taking in the view—and a short rest! Definitely want to get there early as it gets very crowded on the narrow, rocky trail as the day progresses. We got to Highlands at about 8:15 to take the bus up to Maroon Bells. Go early—very popular destination! Bring lots of water too.

Really beautiful hike. A nice short warm up for an easy 14’er. We finished at 10 am and the park rangers were already blocking off the parking lot. Lots of people and kids for a Friday, We started out around 7:30 a.m., but stopped a few times for pic’s and a snack. Glad we got this one checked off before the restrictions are enforced next year...

The Lake and Spouting Rock (don’t miss this) are some of the most beautiful rewards at the end of any Colorado hike we’ve done. Just beautiful. The hike itself is pretty short, but it is challenging. We started at 8am and it was crowded throughout. Total time was 1:45 with a generous break at the top. Be aware there is a sign that says they are going to reduce access starting in 2019.

I found the low level of the lake and the dirty water to be a little underwhelming. The view of the surrounding mountains is very nice, as is the aspen forest on the way in.

I drove from denver but If my friends and family want to see it while in town Im going to do the train trip to enjoy the views. Drivn took 3 hrs with construction traffic while amtrak is 5 hrs, bring a bike rental with you to take a short bike ride to the trail head. Either way you get there, the view is absolutly worth it. This is a tourist trail, busy.

Great hike up to the 3.0 mike mark. Up to that point really nice blend of single track, nicely shaded trail and a river at the start and after two miles. After 3.0 miles trees are down and it is very hard to pass or even tell where the trail goes. However, before you get there could not recommend the Difficult trail more!

Fantastic hike!!! Never gets old. This is a must if you visit this area. However, there were A LOT of people mid-morning though. It was pretty upsetting to see people cutting the switchbacks, touching the water, and climbing in areas that DISTINCTLY said to not enter. Makes sense why they are going to restrict access next year.

It was a great hike.

Challenging hike. Great workout and completely worth the view at the top.

Very easy and short hike to amazing views. Absolutely gorgeous! Waterfalls, river, tons of beautiful rocks, even a cave to go down into. Great places to have a picnic too! Favorite hike so far!

Such a dope area to explore, saw some jerrys wearing helmets going down into the ice caves but I guess better safe than sorry. Go early to avoid the white people.

Nice to stretch your legs when driving independence pass

Found this randomly by walking down Rio Grande river trail then via alleyways that cut through town. Pretty cool. The graveyard was neat.
