Great views! Worth the hike!

Was worth it for us. We went in the spring and it was cold. It was also just after a large snow storm, so the snow was melting and we got a gorgeous view of the falls! Hiked with my 11 year old and he did great! Took us 2.5 to get up and 1.5 to go down. Several smaller falls along the route as well.

I was pressed for time. So straight up, 10 minutes at the top, half walk half jog back down, total time was 66 minutes. I’m 42, lean, run 10 miles a week. Thought it might be helpful to someone to know it can be done in that amount of time. Definitely wish I had more time to take everything in, etc.

Great quick but Vigorous trail. The end is closed due to the fires but still a great walk with Beautiful scenery and overlooks

This trail was relatively easy. Other trails we have been on became part of the terrain, whereas this was a “trail” the whole way. Rainbow Falls was beautiful- wished we had seen a rainbow! Worth the view for the distance of the hike. We enjoyed it!

Great hike! I found Plenty of water on the trail(or a short distance off the trail). I started at bowlers creek which I found to be decent sized with pools big enough for a quick dip about waist deep. The only down fall is the amount of hikers and tourist you encounter as you get closer to MT Mitchell. I’d love to do it again in the winter possibly.

Not technically difficult, but definitely a work out! You are ascending almost the entire way up. The trail itself is not too scenic, but the views at the top are beautiful. The last portion is still closed, but many of the trees have recovered from the fire. We went in early July and the trail was very cool and shady.

In the very beginning there are a few spots you can go swimming so make sure you bring a swimsuit/towel. 99% of the trail you’re going uphill so it’s a definite leg workout. In addition to going uphill you’ll also be climbing hundreds of steps. But the view at the top is beautiful & definitely worth the hike if you’re up for it!

I did this one a few years before the wildfire, so I don’t know how it looks now. I’m sad to hear the top is closed.

It’s beautiful. The last part is hand-over-foot, but the rock gets super hot.

It’s very steep. Get an early start and bring water.

Great hike but definitely more on the difficult side going up. It had recently rained so there were parts that were very muddy. We passed a lot of people that had slipped and almost slipped ourselves a few times. But if you’re up for the challenge, it’s a beautiful hike, shaded in most parts with pretty water scenery.

Enjoyed the walk with the family. It's well traveled and easily marked. The uphill climb was a surprise but I probably should have done more research on it. The family had a good time looking out over the mountains and, even with the fogged-in views, weren't disappointed in the least.

Challenging!

Nice trail - easy to follow. Not a lot of people since it’s a moderate trail and out to the falls is all up hill. The top of the trail is really nice with the water fall to see and rocks to sit on to enjoy the scenery. Definitely recommend good shoes and water for the hike. About 3 hours for approx 6 miles.

Very easy hike in and out. Only rough part was getting down to the falls but so very worth it. One of the most beautiful falls I have ever been to. We had it all to ourselves.

awesome short trek.....a leg workout 4 sure.....bummer the cliff top portion was closed....

Couldn’t go up to the observation deck due to renovations but pretty Hike up. Found a trail that connected to forney trail. Nice hike.

Very nice hike. I took my wife and daughters age 7 and 10. It's a tough go, but a nice view at the end. In the summer, bring a swimsuit because there are some falls to swim in.

My wife and I are experienced hikers and do several hikes a year. That said I would rate this as a moderate to almost difficult trail. It is very poorly marked. We walked to the upper falls route going in and didn't see a blaze until we were almost down to the river. On the way out blazes were sporadic at best and many that were there were very faded. That said it was a great waterfall hike with a lot of off shoot trails that take you to several swimming holes. This is a good hike for everyone including families that are looking for some cool water swimming. We'll certainly return with our swimwear.

Water was high when we were there. Great hike . Really enjoyed the views and falls .

This trail is pretty tough if you aren’t a seasoned hiker. The trail is a steep incline to the falls. The waterfalls along the way are pretty as well. Rainbow falls was beautiful at the end of the trail but it had rained recently. Coming down was much faster but took us 3 hours of hiking to do this trail there and back. Nice hike.

beautiful hike up. No views at the top due to clouds, but a great time with the family getting there. Views at the parking lot were perfect.

Looked beautiful right after a good rain!!

Nice hike. Great views enjoyed the sound of the stream during the hike. The new summit location was nice.

I hiked this in 2 days. Water is available at Deep gap but you have to hunt for it Down an old access road. it makes no sense that the description of this trail on this site says it features a river......Bolens creek is not a river. The biggest feature is the black mountain crest...... the 6, 6000+ft peaks you have to climb.

I did this trail 2 years ago with a couple of friends while on vacation. The scenery on the way and the views from the top are second to none.

Great trail with an amazing view that is worth the hike. The last mile is steep but their are steps for part of it and the trail is well maintained. There are also multiple places to stop along the way if you need too.

Also, for the less ambitious crowd there are some beautiful falls less than 1/4 mile in that is not strenuous to get too.
