So beautiful! Very easy trek to the falls and well worth it!

Love how accessible it is for more people. I do miss the old tower but the current design accommodates many more people. Not really what one calls a hike, but we were breathing a little harder than usual when we reached the top. Surprised to see so many people up here today.. So grateful to live in these beautiful mountains!

It’s lovely !!

The trail is paved with brick. Very accessible, and it is cool to go to the tallest mountain, but not exactly fun hiking.

Great short hike, but I would not rate it as easy. You are still hiking up a mountain. Good for most skill levels, but if you are out of shape you will struggle a bit.

This trail was nice! There were a lot of rocks which made it more difficult but it wasn’t the worst rocky hike I’ve ever done. When we went it was extremely foggy and couldn’t see a whole lot.... however we did hike the additional 3.6 miles to Douglas Falls and it was beautiful!

Nice spot to stop at if you want to stretch your legs and enjoy a wonderful view.

Great add on trek if you're hitting Green Knob Firetower or Setrock Creek Falls. There is parking for about 5-7 cars at the trailhead. The trail is a gravel road, with only minor elevation gain, so very easy for just about anyone. The falls are beautiful and the rocks at the base make great places for photos.

I love this hike. If you are wanting a walk in the woods with a spectacular waterfall at the end, this is not the hike for you. This is a moderate hike (IMO) with a lot of up and down with a nice waterfall to relax by at the end. There are a few creek crossings so your 4 legged friend can get drinks along the way. I didn't feel there was anything too technical that would make this trail truly hard. The slope at the end is somewhat steep and could be slippery in spots after a rain. Overall, an enjoyable hike.

This was definitely a moderate hike with some pretty steep inclines and rocks at parts of it. The view is absolutely worth it!! The leaves look beautiful from the top and there’s an opportunity to get some really good panoramic pictures!

Spectacular at sunrise! Gorgeous views st the top and lovely goi g up and down. It’s an easy hike but if you’re trying to catch the sunrise, allow enough time to make the short trek to the top since it’s so steep.

I read others reviews and must admit I have not been there since it was remodeled per se! I loved it! The old tower was cool! It was interesting because it was freezing in the altitude below but warm above the clouds the day we were there!

Nice trail. start at picnic area and go for it! The train is a bit rocky in some areas, but good trail. About a 7-10 degree incline at begin, but easy trail. Remember people, you're hiking a mountain, grab a walking stick, pit on appropriate shoes and go have some fun.

Great hike! Absolutely gorgeous waterfall. A little difficult with wet leaves but overall a great hike!

Simply beautiful and a very easy hike!

Easy well travelled trail, round trip 1.4 miles, to a beautiful waterfall. To get there take the 8.8 miles gravel road called Big Ivy. Many mini waterfalls along the Big Ivy Rd too for enjoyment.

Short and fairly steep hike with great end views for a relatively easy hike. I’m 38.5 weeks pregnant and able to hike. Looking forward to going back in June or July to see the rhododendrons in full bloom. Make sure to wear hiking shoes with a good grip due to some slippery wet rocks.

Great views

One of my favorite spots to watch the sunset!

On the moderate end of difficult (for me). Update from hurricane Florence: About a mile from the Falls, there are several spots where fallen trees block or hide the trail. Minor bushwhacking required, but so worth it!

Should not be advertised as having a waterfall. You can only get to the waterfall by hiking an additional 3.6 miles to Douglas Falls. Overall disappointing hike. If you go after a rain the clouds will hide any sort of view from the trail.

nice, short trail. beautiful view at the top.

This was a challenging but rewarding hike! The Commissary Trail itself is indeed easy, but the loop depicted in the map takes you on several other trails, including the Camp Alice Trail which I would rate as hard. In the end though, a really great hike with lots of diverse scenery. I had been to the Mount Mitchell summit before by driving up, so it was a fun accomplishment to really work for it.

Very easy trail on the parkway offering great views!

Nice, short easy hike for all. Wife and I were the only ones there. Absolutely peaceful and really pretty. Walked from end of forest rd showed on Navigation as Dillingham rd.

If you are looking for an easy trail that gives great 360 views- this is one of the best in that regard

I agree with other reviewers, that the classification of easy for this trail is off a bit. If you are out of shape like me, I would classify it as moderate to hard. Experienced hikers who are in good shape would probably find it easy to moderate. The Commissary trail segment is fairly easy, but the uphill and downhill sections are considerably harder, especially in the very wet conditions I experienced. It is a great hike to escape hot temperatures in August. I was up on 8/12 and the temp was mid-60s. The view from the summit is worth the hike, though you may find it a little crowded from April to October.

Nice stroll to the falls. Harder climb up right side of falls, especially after a day of rain.

Paved trail to the summit. Slightly steep but well worth the trek up for the 360 degree views.

Great short hike to the summit from the parking area. You ascend around 400ft over 3/4 mile so not to bad. The trail is dirt and rocks. Great views at the top.
