Nice area, but the trail is not clearly marked. At all. Watch out for poison oak. It was a nice walk in the woods if you’re not the type of person that needs a trail.

Loved this trail. It was a good workout with the reward of stunning views. Would definitely recommend!

The views are beautiful. I love the smell of wild rosemary along the the entire trail.

Beautiful view from the trail. This trail is rated moderate. I hate to see what hard is. Take lots of water and enjoy the scenery. We are beginners so It was hard for us but we were able to conquer it. I would recommend this.

Nice easy trail with good views of the back bay. Lots of birds to see. Trail is well maintained, but mostly loose dirt. Definitely wear close-toed shoes.

Love this trail wonderful views and easy enough for YaYa and her 7 & 5 yr old grandsons

Some of the most beautiful trees I have ever seen! Mostly shaded, easy hike. My 7,5, and 3 year old walked the trails with me without any problems. Lots of Poison Oak, but if you keep your eyes open and stay on the trails, it can be easily avoided. Not stroller friendly. Saw a rabbit, squirrels, birds and lots of lizards. Very peaceful hike. Walked about 1/4 mile and came to a gate with a “No Trespassing” sign on it. Either this is an old trail and someone has bought the property, or I missed something. As an added bonus we were covered in ticks for or minimal time on the trail. I would not recommend wasting your time.

An awesome trail that cuts through the inner valleys of the backside hills in Montana de Oro. Moderate elevation gain, and a few areas where footing can get a bit rough (loose dirt), but overall a relatively easy and well-maintained views. Really nice ocean views in the latter portions of the trail!

I started at Patricia, did the Felsmon loop, than connected with the Bishop peak summit. By the time an old man bicycles across town and hikes this, it's a good workout, throw in a little bouldering. Humbling, I don't care for inflated egos. Too my credit I go very slow. Went throuh 2L of water, phone needed recharging. I like the Aveenza offline map app. Find topo map, "Share" it to Aveenza, there you go, up to 3 maps free, can use store if desire. Been up this peak several times I consider this training. Also have become interested in climbing again, see how this goes.. You people should consider leaving your pooches at home, it is exposed and hot. Also watch out for poison oak, it is all over, stay on path. $20 bucks, tie me in, belay an old dude.

on Valencia Peak Trail

just hiked this one earlier today. fog was a view killer, but it was nice and cool. I will be back, for sure.

Hike is fun, pretty. We went in the am and it was overcast making the trail not as bad...however many big rocks throughout the whole trail. Was not a fan of the rocks but the top view is very pretty. Poison oak is not too bad just keep an eye out for little bushes hanging out! Fun hike on a cooler morning

This is one of the definitive hikes for San Luis Obispo. The views from the top are gorgeous.

I did this hike on 7-11-18 and it was fantastic! I definitely highly recommend it for all levels of hikers.

This trail is grossly unkempt. We didn’t enjoy it as much as we thought. The overgrowth and the stacks of leaves to trudge through took away from enjoying the beautiful oak trees. June 2018

Highlight of my trip and especially great on a cloudy day when it's too cold to visit the beach. We made it up in under an hour and enjoyed climbing on the large boulders at the summit. However, be warned that there is poison oak everywhere (thanks for the tip random passerby), especially around the top. Wear long pants and enjoy the view.

Solid 10 mile hike, not too technical, great views, fun workout..

Pristine coastline, lots of CA sea otters, level gravel trail, fresh sea air.

Beautiful view of the costal mountains and ocean. We went when there was costal fog, so we didn't really get to see the true beauty of the ocean, but still an amazing view. mostly uphill, so if you are not used to hiking this probably wouldn't be the easiest of hikes for beginners. but overall we very much enjoyed the hike.

We had to climb the fence to get to the trail so we were a little hesitant at first, but the hike is a dirt road & easy to follow. It's a gradual incline with nice views of San Luis Obispo & even Morro Bay. Went in June & the smell of the wildflowers was very nice! The terrain starts off as dry grass & oak trees but at about 2 miles it changes to pine trees & more of a mountain terrain. It was a nice surprise.

Really special hike, with a big payoff in views and landscape for the short length. The first stretch across the pasture is mostly fire-road style and a bit of an uphill slog, but by the time you get to the forest and start switchbacking as you circle up to the summit the trail design is really nice. The rock outcrops and desert wildflowers towards the top remind me of Pinnacles NM minus the $25 entrance fee. The main drawback is that there is tons of poison oak along the path in the forested area; don't get led astray by the desire trails in this section if you don't have Tecnu with you––the right trail is the most obvious one. There's also some poison oak at the summit in around the boulders that people like to climb up for the views. I wouldn't recommend this trail for beginner hikers. I passed a few pretty grumpy folks who seemed like they thought this would be an easy break from tourist things in SLO and a nice view; the relatively quick elevation gain makes this a decent workout, and the exposed trail for most of the route means you shouldn't forget your sun protection and adequate water.

Great trail. Fairly strenuous but great views. One negative point was we had some ticks on us at the end.

Ok- gotta say....people weren’t kidding. Views are awesome, but humans and dog both COVERED in ticks.

Fantastic 4.2 mile loop trail with a great view of the ocean and coastal mountains. Be mindful there is poison oak along side the trail and some loose rock on steeper sections. There is a bench on top of the peak thanks to an Eagle Scout's project. Took a little less than 2 hours total, I will be revisiting this hike again soon!

First part easy, second part flat, third part about as steep as you can get! Going up is easy, coming down is slippery. Be careful! It was foggy for us, so the gnats were bad!
