Easy photogenic trail. Well worth the trip!
it is mostly in the sun but has a good shady slot canyon
Saturday April 11, 2021 - Bathrooms are open. No service at parking area so - Trail IS dog friendly, but it is very exposed with little shade for dogs that run hot. Additionally, your dog will have to descend either really smooth, slippery rocks or you’ll have to lift them up and down an 8’ ladder. If you can’t lift your dog and they are scared of heights, the reality is you won’t be able to do the whole thing. You still CAN get down to the canyon and see the slots and it’s gorgeous, you just will only do ~3 miles or less and not get to the very tall parts of the canyon. - Lots of water and sunscreen are necessary, not optional. - Plenty of parking available. The 8 mile long dirt road isn’t awful, just go slow if you have a 2WD or low clearance vehicle. - Trail is easy to follow but can be dangerous if you aren’t prepared for the heat or are nervous about heights. - Lots of families out there. Kid friendly as long as you keep them close and don’t climb on the rocks.
Just keep going. The crowds fade away.
Everything was perfect about this hike! Rocky road once you enter, going on for miles. I drove a van, nervously, not knowing what the road condition would be until you get to the parking lot - it was just fine the whole way through. Minimum shade until you get to the slot canyon, but it’s the beginning of April, weather isn’t too hot, and there was a slight breeze to cool everyone down. Very easy hike for all ages.
The road to the trailhead was about 8 miles and on dirt roads. They are doing construction at the trailhead so you might come across big trucks which were kind enough to pull over and let me pass. Lots of 2WD cars on the road as well. Bumpy in some places and small rocks here or there. No water at the trailhead and even despite poor planning on my part realizing our party of 5 only had two water bottles a kind man offered me 3 additional water bottles when I asked if he knew if there was a water pump - saved the day! We didn’t have pets but pet owners were helping each other get their pets down the wooden ladder - nice teamwork. The hike itself was spectacular. I saw a lot of carvings at the end of Wire Pass on the south side of the huge rock wall - suggest a sign there that no carving should be allowed to impact the natural scenery. Amazing hike. No cell service so be sure to pay beforehand before heading out to the trailhead. Despite no cell service nice that AllTrails still had GPS tracking on the saved trail map and east to see how much progress we were making.
it was my birthday dream to hike a slot Canyon. I knew Antelope was closed. several people suggested this one. it was spectacular. my crappy little rental car bumped along the 8 mile dirt road and survived. Even though there was no signage some hikers suggested going right at the T and I was blown away. Very rocky but The ladder was most helpful and at some point there were not many hikers so it was great to take photos and be alone. going the other way
I had been at Petra in 2019. This hike reminds me of the entry (siq) to Al-Kazneh (the Treasury). This is like Petra without the civilization. It is narrower and more natural than Petra.
Started at 7:30am only saw one other person. Perfect hike.
Easy flat hike through a fun slot canyon
great trail!
Beautiful
Hiked down the canyon an extra few miles. Turned around at a rock slide.
Perfect for any family
We did this today and went 3 mi in. We hated to turn around because it was still so awesome. It is the best slot canyon trail we have ever hiked. We think Kanab would be a great place for a family reunion just so we could all do this together. People were from all over the country and out of the country today. Getting the parking pass at the parking lot didn’t happen due to no internet so get it before. It was pretty crowded today but still lots of room for everyone. We went right at the T junction after hearing it was more slotty. We will be back! Restroom situation wasn’t favorable with no TP and one door handle not opening.
Incredible hike into the canyon, we went in about 3 miles. The crowds stopped at the first opening so it was nice to keep going and enjoying the silence.
Super beautiful and fun! A new surprise around every corner in the slot canyon. Rated as moderate but really it’s easy.
Excellent slot canyon. Plenty of parking when we arrived after lunch. Busy trail but still pleasant. Will share photos on IG @mirelaofearth
It was so beautiful!!! get your pass BEFORE you get to the hike.
The 7+ mile bumpy drive was a bit crazy, but doable. Well worth it when you get to the trail. Beautiful and glad to made the trip.
A surprise around every corner. Fantastic. I believe it is the mother of all slot canyons. At least the ones I’ve done. Someday I’ll be back to do more.
Great conditions and an easy trail to follow. Made it up to the mineshaft and peered down the now forgotten shafts. Amazing place to go if you get the chance!
Snowy cool wonderful hike
Awesome easy hike! Very beautiful and fun to do.
