LOVED this trail. Took my 2 year old son and we went in the later day, 3pmish. I got some great photos on my iPhone and my son accomplished the trail easily. Can be a bit rocky and you are going upwards most of the way but fantastic views! Couldn’t ask for a better experience!

Great views from the summit and all during the hike. Dog friendly since there are no large rock scrambles :) A good quick hike to do in the afternoons in January.
We are in fairly good shape but aren’t overly experienced hikers. (but have hiked a bit in the NE) it took us about 50-55min up and maybe 40-45 down.

Our foursome started around 8:30a with temps in the lower 50s. We were layered with a light backpack carrying water and snacks as temps projected to be in the 70s. Trail was in good condition, easily marked. Some shade on lower elevation. Very little shade up towards the saddle. Great views and worth everything at the top. Overall about 3.5 hours with steady pace and a couple stops to take photos.

Awesome hike for kids, ours are 5, 4, and 2. Parking was kinda crowded and a lot more people than what I usually like, but we also went on MLK day so that may be why. I imagine it’s just as busy on a weekend though. Such a beautiful place!

Good incline until the end and the way back is nice and easy. Good family hike.

Trail was really great. Definitely busier than I would have liked, but it was a holiday. I was impressed with all the kids and older people breezing through. It was MLK day and the lot was full so everyone was parked on the dirt road, we made the mistake of following suit and got towed. Thank goodness we had more people with a second vehicle to take us to our car, but they were ticketing and towing dozens of vehicles. Leaving folks stranded. Moral; no matter how many people are parked on the road, don’t do it! $75 for the tow and that was cheaper than a citation.

Took my 5 month puppy here and she did great. Be careful and pay attention to trail signs or you’ll end up on a different trail. Also, the downhill part is very steep with sand. Otherwise, a great hike and beautiful scenery.

Fun trail with light elevations. Back part of trail has a good bit of rocks-trail shoes good here. Also, a lot of sun exposure, so water is a must. Enjoyed the scenery.

So nice at the end, view beautiful. Easy trail, a little busy but still great for family walk/hike.

Such a great hike for families! Long enough for the little ones to complain (it’s good for them) but super rewarding at the end with all the rocks to climb. I had an 11, 10, 8, 5 and 2 year old (in a pack) with me and they all did awesome. The parking lot fills up quick and I got a ticket for parking along the road... so watch out for that!

loved the hike. my two boys did it pretty well without too much complaining and they loved the end!

Nice enjoyable hike. Cool little waterfall at the top. Be ready to climb over some rocks.

I was hiking the trail and I slipped in mud and Broke my leg on a rock. I had to go to the emergency room

Hieroglyphic Trail is a lot of fun and should not be missed, there are petroglyphs and small waterfalls at the end of the trail along with beautiful views of the Valley. This family friendly trail is a 2.8 mile moderately-heavy trafficked and rocky out and back trail. Depending on experience level, this trail is mostly easy with some moderate features including rocky areas / loose gravel and "possible climbing" for some around the petroglyphs and waterfalls. For bonus points, keep hiking past the waterfalls for a more challenging experience. Weekend foot traffic can get heavy, best for weekday and early morning use. We highly recommend this trail.

Amazing Hardest Hike Ever! I’m Over Whelmed with accomplishing this hike....Best Ever! Gloves are a MUST as you’ll be crab crawling down steep rocky terrain. It is definitely a Hard Hike, Epic Summit with amazing views! GTAH,AZ 1-20-19 I kicked Ass on Flatiron !!!! 7.00 entrance fee, clean bathrooms on site :). Plenty of parking. Took me 6 hours total

Great first hike in AZ.

Very very easy trail to hike, did it with my wife and her young nephews. Gorgeous when you get to the end with the spring and you can see the many Native American Petroglyphs. Carried a single bottle of water with me and was fine.

Loved this hike great views and a lot of shade along certain parts! Great for dogs too

This was a great hike! Definitely a solid challenging workout, but the terrain wasn’t difficult to navigate. Lots of shady areas and the view was amazing the entire time, especially at the top! Highly recommend.

Hiking is a misnomer for this trail as rock climbing is pretty much the theme for a long stretch of the trail. The trail started out deceptively easy and lulled you thinking it's not so difficult then after an hour into it you are suddenly facing a terrian in its most primitive form with very steep incline. bring enough water and two snacks. gloves are highly recommended

first time on this hike and it was very fulfilling. a group of boy scouts went up around the same time and managed very well. we arrived at 6:30, park opens at 6. bring plenty of water, a flashlight for early morning, small snacks, and gloves for rock climbing. the trails are marked very lightly with either blue or white. plenty of shade for early risers. definitely going back!

Did the hike today started at 10:20 am,. 2 hours up to the top view point, going down took 1.5 hours. Heavily trafficked . the difficulty level is about moderate, but a lot of rocks on the trail. at this season I would go in afternoon, after 1:30 pm to start, it will be more shady. and more parking slots. nice view!

Love this trail!

Great trail. Heavily trafficked on a Saturday morning. Nice shade along the way. Great view at the top. Had dogs along with no problem.

Love this trail! Not too strenuous but just enough to get your heart rate up, depending on your pace. The length of the trail is maybe 90% loose gravel and rocks so I recommend wearing shoes with good grip and stability. There are a couple of spots near the top where older or less-steady hikers might require 3 points of contact, but still, I saw plenty of folks 65+ make beyond those spots with no problem.

This was one of the most satisfying hikes I have ever done. Start early, as it is a long one if you want to go all the way up to Flat Iron. Bring lots of water. We wish we had brought both camelbacks. Some of my best hiking pictures came from this hike. You can see at kels_marin on Instagram. We also had a helicopter fly below us when we were sitting at the top. It's not for people afraid of heights. There was a woman at the top crying because she was terrified to climb down.

Beautiful hike and great work out. Plenty of parking. Park opens with the sunrise. Well maintained trail. This shouldn’t be rated as hard. No rock scrambling or crazy inclines. Don’t get me wrong, the first mile or a little over is a serious workout but not hard. On the fear of heights scale of 1-10 it gets a 4 so anyone can do it!
