beautiful! its steep until you almost get to the lake, then it levels out. great hike for kids and the inexperienced, just take plenty of breaks. the hut at the top has bathrooms

Very easy up to the hut but after that it was a bit difficult to the peak. No view at the peak so if you're looking for a pretty semi difficult hike i would try something else.

Went in the fall, so beautiful. Had soup up in the hut. Definitely recommend this hike!

Great hike! Elevation gain on my gps said 1,846. A bit more than what AllTrails had. My 11 yo loved this hike and we all had fun! Very heavily trafficked. Recommend and early arrival to get a parking spot.

Hiked up with my parents who are inexperienced hikers. One used trecking poles. This was my second time doing this hike and I really enjoy the views at the top.

Long, tough climb. Would be best to do on a dry day.

Fun hike! Usually wooded summits aren’t particularly exciting but the trail itself is so beautiful that I didn’t mind hiking into the middle of the woods to turn around and go back. The huts are always a treat, too. My favorite part was the blueberry bushes on the top between Zeacliff and the summit.

Total trip including breaks took me 5 hours and 35 mins. The first 2.8 to the hut is very flat and took me 1 hour on the way up and 35 mins on the way back (I ran). The trail from the hut to the cliff (1.2) is the most difficult part of the hike and took me 1 hour up and 45 min down. It flattens out again to the summit and that 1.6 took me 1 hour there and 45 min back.

I was skeptical about the easy rating but this really was an easy hike.

Beautiful trail. The lake and trail that loops it are worth the climb. Be sure to check out Lonesome Lake Hut! There are bathrooms there and places to change if you want to swim!

This is a really nice hike in Franconia. Although the incline is steep at parts, it levels off shortly after. Definitely less strenuous than the trails up the ridge across the highway.

At the lake is a lovely dock that gives views to Franconia Ridge and Cannon. This is a great place to stop for lunch. Curious and friendly resident ducks on the lake may come up to you, but don’t feed them! They are fun to watch though.

It can get a bit muddy around the lake, but bog bridges help mitigate that.

I took the Dodge Cutoff Trail back down. It was less developed than the LL trail up. No staircases on Dodge. Less people though. I’d recommend going back down the way you came though.

Really nice hike, a good way to pass a few hours.

Tough uphill, a little muddy at the top. Nice views.

We did this with our two children age 3.5 and 5.5 y and it was a big success. The young one was in my back for the first half and then he wanted to climb on his own. It was a lot of fun. I recommend this trail for any family with minimum experience. Hiking boots are a plus since some sections are somewhat rocky.

what a nice little trail along the lake and through the woods. though trail is relatively flat, good walking/hiking shoes a must as you cross over small rocks and tree roots often.

Took tram up top so shortened hike by about a mile of steep climbing. Enjoyed the scramble climb very much and climb was mostly uphill until last, downhill mile. Not too many views but rocks afforded good hand holds and were manageable. Carter Notch Hut small but very historic as was one of earliest built. Great croo! Easy decent via 19 Mile Brook Trail. Pretty along the rock strewn streams in the woods. Weather extremely changeable so be prepared as always for the Whites.

Awesome begginer hike to get you fitted for more bigger hikes. Trail gets steep for a ways. Beautiful lake and hut. Recommend doing the full trail around the lake. Great views!

11 and 12 for my #48 .. was actually 11.1 miles and took 8.5 hours (breaks included) Went up Fishin Jimmy, Let me tell you doing that trek up after a lot of rain made for some very slick rocks and it's a considerably steep trail! The views were hazy on North Kinsman but very beautiful and nice to see Lafayette and the Fraconia Ridge group from the point of view.. South Kinsman definitely has the views with the larger summit and 360 view.. Descended down Kinsman Pond (very quiet which is perfect and far less steep than Fishin Jimmy) and as far as being "not well maintained" I've been on far worse trails . This trail was small but well marked. Looped back over to Lonesome Lake trail and a very long .8 mile back to the car haha.

Hike starts off easy but long, once you get to the hut you are able to cool off in the falls. Pretty strenuous hike up to the outlook but has a nice view. I don’t recommend going to Zealand summit unless your completing the 48 4K mountains, it’s a long boring hike with absolutely no view.

This hike starts out, and ends fairly steep, with a nice gradual grade in the middle. The view at the ledges was nice though access is limited due to nesting falcons.

Steep climb most of the way up with many roots/rocks. Went with our kids and they made it but it was tough. Overall a great workout and many people were getting winded making it to the top. View of lonesome lake was nice with a surprisingly strong breeze to cool us off.

D the same thing happenede toq

Even though the uphill climb was a bit rocky it was well worth the lake views at the top!

love. short but tough hike with an exceptional reward waiting for you at the top. Seeing the water sparkling through the forest was a joyful sight and swimming in the soft water felt luxurious. The walk around the lake was dense and a bit muddy but gorgeous views all around.
my dog enjoyed it too.

I was wondering why this trail was kicking my butt and then realized I gained 1000ft in half an hour! Once you get past that it’s easy, and the view is amazing.

Hi, I was wondering is there parking?

Beautiful trail, great waterfall views. section of trail about half mile in was washed out but easy to get around.

Easy hike to the hut with a lot of wildlife and flowers. The trail to the peak was a little harder with some cools view.

Long steady climb but i've seen worse in the area. I would rate it moderate and worth every step. The panoramic view of Lafayette,Lincoln and Haystack was spectacular. Great for pics. The walk around the lake was so peaceful and serene. Love love loved it!

Beautiful finish. Lots of roots! Be careful.

Good short workout with an amazing view on the top.
