Beautiful view with the snow and lake. Highly recommend spikes.

The weather was perfect (30 degree). Lake was frozen. Snow packed trail. Used trekking poles- no spikes, crampons, or snowshoes (although I’d def recommend spikes). Arrived by 10am and parking lot was already 2/3 full. Very, very, very busy with families, kids, visitors, etc. Since I’m from Kansas, the altitude always is an issue for me. Took my time. Fairly easy with a few slick spots- I was easily passed by locals with kids in tow.

Short bit difficult; went in March (3/14/18) and very icy. Made harder and less fun. Want to go back

I definitely recommend crampons/shoe spikes!! Very necessary. Very steep slick icy spots still, saw multiple people slip! It’s totally worth the incline up!!!

Trail was very snowy and due to the past few days of wind the snow wasn't very packed. Super beautiful and amazing hike and there were plenty of people on the trail, but I would not recommend it without snow shoes or spikes

Pretty hike! Short enough to do mid-day, microspikes would be beneficial!

Beautiful lake.

Very relaxed and beautiful trail!

This spur of the moment hike was fun, but we look forward to hiking the area again when we are more prepared. Beautiful sites. Even stumbled across a herd of deer!

Spikes definitely help right now, was able to take my 6 year old on her first hike with them. There is also a great rock outcropping to go up on one side of the lake. It has gorgeous views!

Pretty easy, but great view!

This is a steady elevation gain on the way to the lake.
Nothing that can't be done with some boots, but putting on spikes on the way down is ideal. These trails are great for carrying snowshoes with you so you can get off the beaten path during winter. Which is great because all the trails in this little area are heavily crowded with people. Crowded year round basically.

Almost completely packed down snow right, as all the trails in this area will be for awhile. Slight elevation gain to Alberta Falls, but nothing crazy. We have a 4 and 7 year old and the only one that used spikes was my wife. On the way back it would be helpful though. Right now you can see the water at the top of the waterfall running down through the ice... very cool. This one if good for kids. We do it once during winter and once during summer every year.

It was an easy hike except for the icy condition, although some other hikers had no problem with it, but I was slipping where there’s ice even with walking poles. The view was amazing, though! I’d definitely rent microspikes to wear next time. The lake is still frozen, I think the view will look even more beautiful if it wasn’t frozen.

Steady climb but easy pace and well trafficked. Nice reward at the top.

Icy, but beautiful & worth the effort.

Don’t let the trailhead fool you! The path gets extremely(!!) steep and slick. Even with crampons it was tough! Saw lots of people attempting it with Converse/Nikes/Keds and slipping or having to just slide down. Many people turning back halfway too. Ice spikes are a must!

Great hike did it yesterday 03-10 about 3 Miles round trip.. beautiful lake the water was just as pristine as u can imagine and waterfall .. the trail is somewhat doable without micro spikes but highly recommend them because a few places were pretty slippery

On the way up we were getting nervous about the lack of snow in morraine park, but were not let down when we got to the trailhead. We were fine in just our hiking boots til shortly after nymph lake then the trail got more narrow, steep, and icy where our snowshoes came in handy (or any type of yaktrak would have been fine). Overall it was great, still very well traveled even in the snow. Signage is nearly impossible to find with how deep the snow is, but trail is mostly well packed and easy to follow.

Amazing hike today, the weather was beautiful and there was barely any foot traffic which was really nice. Will never not love hiking Horsetooth.

Make sure to wear ice spikes! Can be pretty slippery. Great views and a great hiking workout - uphill madness!

Fun hike, needed my microspikes. Trail was snow packed and ice after the first 600 or so feet. People without traction devices were having lots of problems. Beautiful ice on the falls. Crystal clear water. I will definitely be back in the spring.

Nice hike with our son from CSU ON Sunday. Parking lot full, but only waited 2 minutes for someone to leave(Ranger cobtrolled). No spikes needed, poles were a great help. Beautiful views of Horsetooth Reservoir and great Mountain Vistas from the Rock. Took the easier, more gentle slope down the road, Great views and much easier on the knees!

Great hike with nice views. Parking was difficult, very few options for where to park because all lots were fulll

If you take this trail counterclockwise the steep portion is around 2 miles. I was told this was the easier route to take. Trail conditions were packed and it was an easy snowshoe. Plan on between an hour and a half to two hours plus depending on how many stops you make to enjoy the views.

Nice hike. I wouldn't consider the hike too difficult. On the easy/moderate side. A little ice on the trail. Since it was nice day today, the trails were a bit busy. Not overly crowded. Nice views of from the tops of the ridge. As we suspected, the falls are not running yet. Make sure you wear mud ready shoes as there is a lot of mud and ice on the shady side. Hiking poles may not be a bad idea for the not so sure footed.

It is an amazing and beautiful hike to Hanging Lake. This trail is heavily trafficked and the parking lot fills up really quickly. They have plenty of areas to rest on your way up and it’s almost all up hill. It can be difficult for anyone not from the area with the high altitude. The way down is easy, up is the only semi difficult part but worth it!!

I did this hike on 2/27, arrived at 8am and the lot was empty. I got to spend a nice 40 minutes or so alone at the top before anyone else showed up.

Trail was snow packed and icy most of the way, especially at the very top. Traction control highly recommended.

I did this hike on a February Tuesday and it wasn’t crowded at all. Even in the winter the hike was wonderful, with some ice on the falls. I just wish I had brought spikes or hiking poles! Places were very slippery.
