Perfect day for this hike! Trail was a little muddy after the rain yesterday and then the top had some snow. But the trail was evident with all the foot traffic. Clear enough to see Denali and the views from the peak were incredible. Saw 3 moose on the way up and then 20 sheep (3 different groups) at the peak. Definitely will do again. Enjoy!

Beautiful hike.

Well worth the effort. Camped at the top. Bring at least 3 liters of water if you're doing the whole trail, especially if the sun is out. There are many streams if you have a filter.

Just did O’Malley today! Took 3.5 hours roundtrip, however my friend and I ran up to the ascent before little Omalley, then the ball fields, and then down the scree coming back. Every opportunity we could. It’s an incredible hike but does require some confidence when heading up the gulley of big Omalley. We took the goat paths whenever we could find them but it was not technical at all. The view from the top, on a bluebird day, is incredible and well worth the trek! Saw about 4 bull moose and a cow coming back. Pretty highly trafficked, but not too many people once you leave the ball fields and start heading up big Omalley. Totally doable hike!

The last 200 feet is very difficult. I got to see some moose on a side trail and the view was outstanding. It was a heavily trafficked trail, but I knew that going in, from the other reviews. I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a challenge.

Good views like every other mountain in the state, this app labels it as hard but it’s definitely not. It should be rated as moderate.

Gruelling hike up and down but well worth every bit of the effort. one of the most amazing and rewarding views in my 66 years on the planet

One of the most beautiful hike in Kenai Pensilvania.

This peak took us almost 4hrs to reach the top, taking our time in some places due to the loose ground and a few steep areas that are probably out of most people’s comfort zone, but if you don’t mind heights, the view is unbelievable!

Beautiful views !

Dang my feet hurt! And my knees! Good thing this was a pretty hike! Saw like 8 marmots!! And the icefield, which was pretty cool too. Sept 11, 2018. 7.5 hr RT.

Great hike to marvelous glacier lake with ice bergs. But you need to bring a bell or noise maker and bear spray. Loaded with bears so be on alert. Also gravely and rocky in some places. Talk talk talk so you don’t startle beard

All the stairs got me a little winded. After that though, it's like a choose your own adventure, scrambling up all the rock. Definitely flat at the top, hence the name. Went on a beautiful bluebird day and got views of everything from Iliamna to Denali. (of course, you can get that from the parking lot too... :P) Sept 8, 2018. Took me about an hour and a half to get from parking lot to the top, including breaks.

It was a fun scramble at the top but too many people. 1 hour and 15 minutes total up and back.

I don't think I would necessarily classify this hike as 'hard' but I also did it on an absolutely perfect day in terms of weather conditions. It would certainly be more challenging in poor weather or with small children.
Very busy trail but that was also probably increased due to the great weather and time I went (late afternoon on a Saturday).

It's a steep incline until you get out of the trees. Once you think you're coming to the top, think again. lots of false summits but the final views are worth it.

Views were spectacular. I went on such a clear day that you could see all the way over to turnagain arm and all the way out to Denali. At the peak make sure to look below you into the rim of the valleys, I saw like 10 mountain goats. Saw two moose as well, right smack dab in the middle of the trail-so we had to wait a bit. Also, keep an eye out for the leftover plane wreckage on the right of the trail. But anyway- it was spectacular and I highly recommend ESPECIALLY on a clear day- you can see everything!

made it 2/3 of the way with old dogs, it was raining, and we were concerned with wet boulders for the rest of the way up. but it's gorgeous at where we stopped

Spectacular hike! Starts fairly wooded, at the Meadows overlook breaks out into open territory and beautiful alpine meadows. Every stop off provides a beautiful view, so don’t feel shortchanged if you can not make it the entire way up. We climbed to Top of the Cliffs and were rewarded with a beautiful view of the Icefield, glacier, even a black bear grazing on berries about 200 yds away. Plenty of people on the trail but good to bring bug and bear spray just in case. Took about 4 hours round trip, but we took our time and picked raspberries and blueberries along the way :) a must do for anyone visiting the area.

Well, it’s as long and as hard as others describe. There are three sections, beginning with some dense foliage and thick roots, transitioning to low shrub and thick roots, and ending in rock scrabble. It’s a steady uphill climb to the summit; not many level areas to stop and admire the view. However, when you do reach the few stops en route, the vistas are spectacular. The summit provides an amazing view up two valleys, each with beautiful alpine lakes and mountain streams. Oh, and we saw a moose on the way down.

Not easy
But fantastic views

Best hike I ever done !

Amazing pretty much sums it up. Nice steady incline going up, lots of stops for berries because.. hello! It's September and somehow there are tong of blueberries out. Stayed at the lake for 2 nights.. could have stayed the rest of my life honestly. The hike out is also amazing! we enjoyed lunch at the peak and enjoyed 360° views!

We didn't make it to the very top, but we got pretty close. We caught a ride with the bike shop downtown (Flattop Mountain Shuttle they were great, 5 stars for them too!) and had to turn around early enough to catch a ride back. Hard trail but fun, we'll have to try it next time we're in Alaska. Be sure to have your mountain goat shoes on!

One of our favorite overnight backpack outings. We typically camp at Primrose Friday night and overnight somewhere along the way. It's a great way to introduce new folks to backpacking with good terrain, a variety of landscapes and rewarding views at the top!

This year, we had glorious weather on Saturday, but just as we past the lake and hit the ridge, miserable cold drizzle and fog rolled in. Incessant rain all night and less than 20 ft visibility the next morning. We booked it out. Still, a great way to spend the weekend!

This trail was very difficult! Pretty much the entire hike is an incline; however the view at the top is amazing!

Difficult hike especially with a bunch of snow but wonderful view from the top!
