As of today. the trail is still covered in snow. highly recommend ice spikes. the last 200ft are at a 70° incline. Be careful going up and down.

With the warm weather, the snow has started to get really soft and wet in places. Conditions were much better on our trip up around 11:30/12 than they were on the way down around 1:00. So if you go, try to go earlier in the day. Be prepared for postholing and wet boots. Micro spikes were a must.

Fishing

Completed this in June of 2017. It was relatively busy in the afternoon when we went, but it was manageable. We brought our dog up until the rocky point in which you had to climb. The climb wasn't too bad, but there were some steep parts I had to have a hand to be pulled a little because I'm pretty short. Overall, I don't recall it taking too much time out of our day and once we reached the top it was worth it!

Hiked March 26th. Beautiful views but the trail was non-existent when we attempted. We made it most of the way but the last portion got steep and slippery with the snow. We suggest spikes/crampons and trekking poles if you want to go all the way to the top.

The trail was easy for my husband and I to navigate with our dogs. The signs for the trails were very clear and understandable for beginners. The only issue we had was nobody put a leash on their dog and they kept running up to ours.

Great experience! Hiked up to the saddle after a snow fall, was a bit of a challenge without any trekking poles but well worth the fun and view! Caught the sunset during the descend!

lots of moose sign. plenty of red squirrel and rabbit sign too. the trail was flat and fun, packed down by many cross-country skiers and bicyclists. saw several midday hikers out enjoying the decent weather, even though it was a gray sky day.

HikingGreat!RockySnow

This is fantastic hike that is just minutes away from Anchorage. For a winter ascent I would recommend: >Trekking Poles >Ice Axe >Microspikes >Hiking with a Partner For the most part, the trail was broken-in and hard-packed. I used the trekking poles for the first 3/4 of a mile or so and then switched over to the ice axe. There were some steep segments during the final 1/3 of the hike and I would not have made absent my ice axe. The ice axe was also helpful coming down these steep segments. I would also recommend doing this hike with a partner during the winter. If one were to fall/slip on the final 1/3, they would fall/slide a considerable distance. It would be good to have someone with you. The views are spectacular. This was first my hike in Alaska and I highly recommend it! Here is a link to a short YouTube video from the hike today: https://youtu.be/4zd7erURW5c
