Since last weeks Snow, we brought crampons and poles which made both the accent and decent so much more enjoyable There were people who had to turn around because they didn’t have enough traction.

Good trail with great views from Windy Peak. Don’t forget your $7 to park.
Found a perfect spot to hang the hammocks and chill.

Great hike with great views at the top.

We went during the week back in August to avoid the crowds. Bumpy road going up in a Jeep. Views are stunningly beautiful. Gentle stroll at first then slow ascent. I’d barely call this moderate.....more like advanced easy

Great quick day hike. Awesome view at top. Be prepared for incline!

nice short hike

Did the north and south loop today and it was very pretty. Snowed the whole time making it even better. I’d say it’s a fairly easy hike, took me maybe 30-40 minutes and I was stopping and taking pics. I’m new to Colorado so my lungs ain’t good either, def recommend to anyone looking for a close hike from the city.

Did this hike on October 8, 2018. First snow of the winter. It was magical, nobody after the first two miles. saw moose! The mountains and meadows we're gorgeous with a couple inches of snow.

We were looking for a lake hike not far from our house and this looked like a good candidate. The Guanella pass road was still open so we took it, and then drove the Naylor Lake Road up to the upper parking lot, shaving about a mile off of the total distance of the trail. I'd highly recommend AWD or 4WD. We did it in our Jeep in 2WD but that road can get slick really quick. As we were driving through the Guanella pass road we realized that there was a light coating of snow at the top, and assumed that there would be a little snow up where we were headed, glad we packed warm. The hike was fairly easy, with a skim coat of ice on some of the areas where water came off the mountain and pooled in the low spots. We were glad that we had our trekking poles if only for a couple extra points of contact. About 2/3rds of the trail is above treeline and is exposed to the elements. The wind started to kick up fiercely as we made it to Silver Dollar lake and continued to Murray Reservoir. The views were obstructed somewhat from the low ceiling, but it was still worth the hike.

I'll have to come back sometime in the spring to check and see if there are any nice looking trout in those lakes!

the directions are off, make sure to follow 353 and go left at the fork after cr4 and it'll get you there. high ground clearance is needed. you start the hike above treeline and go down to the lakes. make sure to see the cabin and the second lake! we saw no one there but a few Jeeps on the road. so pretty and unique!

This is one of my favorite trail to date. Ample amounts of parking at trailhead, and beautiful scenery throughout. Very long hike close to 18 miles long, but we'll worth it. Didn't make it up to the top of the summit, due to rainstorms moving in. Would recommend.

Good hike very close to the city. 3 stars for the views of Ralston Bluffs.

Lots of mountain bikers. Huge amounts in the afternoon. Most were cool but Was startled many times by them others racing by with little notice or heads up around blind corners on steep portions of trial.

Great trail, moderate traffic during the week. Good short workout.

Beautiful trail, the Aspens were bright gold. Some of the trail was heavily trafficked but it was never a problem. I am not a very seasoned hiker but I would not rate this trail as Hard. The first two miles are nice wide paths with a slight incline. The last mile to the Crater Lakes is steep, but not difficult.

Great hike with beautiful views. If you have to park in the lower lot, plan on walking an extra mile or so RT. We arrived around 8:30 on a Sunday morning and the lot and path were pretty empty on the way up—not so much on the way down. Lots of friendly dogs, too!

Loved this trail, very rocky and deep going up. I would say it’s tough for sure. The views were great and several places to stop for pictures. Pretty crowded when we went, on a weekday during mid morning. We didn’t come from valley, we took the mount Sanitas trail and it was hard!

Nice hike accurately described. Great views once above tree line (about 2/3 of the trail, each way).

Beautiful little trail, moderate until the little bit of scrambling at the end. The lakes are lovely. And it was not crowded at all, only saw one group of 4 backpackers and a couple the entire day.

This was my second time doing this hike and it was better than the first! Although the views leading up to the lakes are not amazing, once you get within a mile of the first lake, things really open up and make everything worth it. After the reservoir, the elevation gain really kicks in. The first mile of the trail is down hill so dont forget that you have a short hike back up to your car(up hill both ways!). The first Chicago lake has no defined trail but there are plenty of paths to get down there. The yellows, greens, and blues really make this lake stand out. The hike to the upper lake is all gain. There are a few spots of loose dirt which make it slow going but the climb is about 500ft in less than a mile to the top lake. Once you're up there, it all pays off. We had an amazing blue sky day with some gusts of wind rolling through to cool us off. Mount Evans sits behind the lake and offers amazing mountain views and a great place to relax. With the side routes to the lower lake and walking around, the total trip was roughly 11 miles but the trail itself is about 9 miles as it is listed here.

Great hike! fall colors were awesome.

Great workout and doesn’t take too long

Beautiful hike!

Awesome

Yes, the drive up is long and bumpy, but the hike is so worth it. Fall colors were absolutely beautiful and view over the lake and mountains when you first start is breathtaking. Not a challenging hike at all with just a slight incline and some areas where you have to climb over some rocks. Totally fine to take kids on. There was quite a crowd when I was there, but you can park along the road, so don’t worry too much about that.

Beautiful and a perfect distance. Amazing views

I should title this 'Pay Attention to Your GPS'.

Along the ridge trail, beautiful aspen colors. Saw moose near winding river below. Several streams with logs to walk over. Waterfall minimal due to dry season

It was an interesting hike . There is a lot of forest(roots) to get through to get to the pretty sites above the tree line. It takes about 1 hr 45 min to get out of trees into meadows and above tree line which is really nice. It took about 2 hr 5min to get to the lake. But guess what? If you hike up that ridge on N side of Lake there is another Lake twice the size of the main Lake. Also, if you have time recommend the hike up to the top of the Pass which takes about 45 min from Lake. The views are amazing and the switchbacks are well maintained . You can see the winter park complex and valley as well as both lakes. If you go to the top it is about 5 hr 30 min total trip plus time you eat and relax at top. If you just go to Lake it’s about 4 hr 15 min plus how long you hang at the lake. If you aren’t going to fish or going to hike to the top, there are shorter, prettier Lake hikes like diamond lake, brained, ect....

Absolutely beautiful fall hike! The aspens are gorgeous, and the mountains are spectacular!
The waterfall/creek at the end is nothing to write home about.
Little shade coverage, even when you’re in the trees.
The dirt road is about 5 miles and VERY bumpy- so make sure your car is ready! It’s fine in lower clearance cars as long as you drive nice and slow.

Did this hike about 5 days ago. The Golden aspen were striking and views of mountains ahead and on either side were magnificent. The falls are nice as well. It is quite sun exposed for much of the walk. We went early in morning but even then it was a hot day, but very lovely
