Nice walk but a not a loop as the description says. It's an out and back line from Fort Langley to the park near the Houston Trail parking lot. Nice stretches along the river and the occasional eagle.

Went up the majority of this trail yesterday. Had to turn around just before the scramble section because of snow and ice.
Beautiful trail that really works the legs out on the way up and down.
5 hours return trip with a short break at the top for a bite to eat

A cool walk!

Today (holiday Monday following Remembrance Day), I did this hike for the first time, hiking the loop clockwise with my adult daughter. I'm a pretty seasoned hiker but was really grunting the first hour: I found the first leg of the trail difficult--not moderate (it reminded me a lot of the trail to Wedgemount Lake: steep up, then more steep up, then more....). There are also some quite steep sections on the descent east towards Buntzen Lake. I forgot to bring my hiking pole--and regretted it.

I would definitely agree with the previous comments that suggest that the trail marking leaves something to be desired. There were several times where we had to stop and really look around to find the next orange tag. I could see how less experienced hikers could easily wander off the trail. As far as trail maintenance, early on in the hike we crossed two little bridges that were completely falling apart, and in my view, a potential hazard.

Overall, I would rate the trail as moderate-to-difficult. Including the times stopped to take pictures, it took us 4.5 hours. The views were great! I'd like to do this hike again in the summer.

适合天气晴朗的时候散步,道路平缓,紧临居民区。

November 9th, 2018.
There was light snow starting at 7km into this hike, I made it to 9km and turned back as visibility had gotten to the point where I no longer felt safe to continue.
To the 9km mark and back to the Parking lot took me 7.5 hours

The snow will slow you down, and winter park hours may make this hike not possible unless staying the night.

This is a beautiful trail that we have walked a number of times but it is now tainted by the fact that someone broke into my vehicle yesterday (Nov 3/18) and stole my wife’s wallet. The lowlife also emptied the change from my ashtray. No windows were broken and the vehicle was locked up afterwards which leads me to believe that it was done with a slim jim (tow-truck driver’s tool).
I should mention that this was at the lot off McKinnon Cr.

Be cautious out there folks. We are seasoned hikers who slipped up and left something of value hidden away and not on our person. Nothing was left in sight. This was the job of someone who probably frequents this location looking to rip off hardworking families. Hopefully this headache doesn’t happen to you.

Did this hike yesterday, and wow what a struggle. - I want to start off by saying I started at the wrong end so that was a my bad. BUT there were little to no markers other than little orange tags which looked like someone ran through the trees and just stapled them all over the place. Every once in a while you would come up to a piece of cardboard that someone wrote 'that way' on. DO NOT do this hike without downloading this map first. If we wouldn't have had this map we would have been extremely lost. I'm assuming it wouldn't have been as hard if we started at the proper end of the trail because it would have only been one steep incline for the first hour and then mostly downhill the next couple, but on the end we started on we hiked up and up and up for 3 hours and then down for 1.5 hours. I would rate this as a hard hike, only because of the direction I went, and because of the poorly placed markers. The first vista has an amazing view, but the next nine get gradually worse each time. I'm glad I did this hike, but I don't think I will be doing it again.

Stay safe and make sure to download this map! Also - pack extra water and make sure you are out by 5:30pm! Gates close at 6:00pm.

Challenging, but awesome hike! I hiked it once last year and then again on July 13th of this year in one very long day. I don't recommend rushing this hike. It's so beautiful at the top. Take your time and soak it all in. I am planning on hiking it again by myself this coming Thursday (Sept. 13th) if anyone would like to join me.

A family favorite.

wait for a sunny day, the vistas are amazing

Killer hike but the view is a priceless payoff!

Hiked on Tuesday did it in 12 hours took our time enjoyed the views. My recommendation is to take 5 L of water, you don’t want to get cramps. Been looking at Golden Eras out my kitchen window for 20 years and finally did it! Well worth the bee sting. Very challenging hike with ropes and ladders. Makes you conquer your fears that’s for sure.

It was a good hike with some steep parts. View was ok. Wasn’t marked very well, we had to back track a couple times...lots of people asking if they were going in the right direction, especially at the beginning. Busy place too, I prefer a quieter, less travelled hike.

enjoyed the walk, was very nice morning. covered canopy, not too difficult of an incline. one big hill, a few people on the trail. no bikes allowed. took 49 minutes at an average pace.

It was misty with rain today. We did the 16km hike that's including the loopback from the west side. The view was not clear from the viewpoint. It was steep to go down from the Diez vista. You must pay attention to the trail markers otherwise you may go the wrong way. all in all, it was a beautiful hike . Be prepared, I recommend footwear with ankle support. we used hiking poles and they definitely helped on the way down .we did the full hike no shortcuts .great hike!

Third time doing the west canyon trail, camped on panorama ridge on one of the nice wood tent-pads. Make sure to bring lots of water because from just before alder flats to the ridge there is none, in my experience there is usually running water at the emergency shelter. All in all this hike is doable as a day trip or overnight and has a great work / reward ratio and I highly recommend.

Great urban trail. make a day out of it stop for coffee in the morning and a beer at the finish. great urban adventure. long enough to be a challenge albeit not a hike but a long walk with lots of variability for all

Great low elevation hike tat can be done almost year round. Nice views of Deep cove and dog friendly area. it can take up to 6 hours. just going to the second viewpoint is good if you only have 2 or 3 hours.

Did this hike last Saturday 30th June, was actually quite dangerous and very difficult to see/manuever at the top with the snow, we had poles and boots which were a must. Couldn't find the hut or anywhere to camp so we had to turn back probably just before reaching it. I'd recommend waiting until the snow melts and doing this hike in late July through September.

Nike, challenging day hike. Very foggy up top so will be doing this again on a clear day. Took our group just a bit under 5 hours to get from parking lot to summit with a few water and picture breaks. Puppy made it to emergency shelter with ease but I backpacked her up to the peak and down. Crossing snowfield was not necessary as we could easily go around what was left of it. Pretty easy up to Alder Flats and getting steeper after that. I drank almost 5 liters of water and it wasn’t that hot so bring lots of water.

A section of the trial was closed (seemed permanent) so can’t really complete the “loop” Aside from that, a nice trail to walk and bike..
