This trail was surprisingly fun with some decent incline and rock scrambles. Crowds are no joke but around the middle it was very thinned out (spent about 20 minutes just waiting to get to the gate of the park... then had to follow someone leaving in order to park). Annual passes to great falls are 30$ so might be worth it for people who plan on coming back a couple times. GORGEOUS fall colors.

Great hike for all ages. Take a picnic and eat on the bank of the North Anna River at stop 6 or 7 on the blue trail.

Very scenic 4.5 mile loop around lake. Mostly dirt trail with some paved. I found several places very muddy from earlier rainy weather. Trail should be better maintained in those areas.

Relatively flat and well marked path. Nice views of the water and the falls. Started a little crowded around 9/9:30. Took us about an hour with our dog.

Starts and ends well but kind of tough to find the markers in the middle! But gorgeous scenery and nice hike!

Not very clear on the trail markings or parking, even with map.

Easy, scenic trail. Don't expect anything grand, but its a beautiful atmosphere.

Awesome trail, great camping as well. You feel like you are in the wilderness, and not 20 minutes from Washington, DC. Great history with trail history markers along the way.

Look....Don’t underestimate the difficulty of this trail. Although it’s listed as moderate, there are many obstacles such as fallen trees, overgrown shrubbery, and huge boulders that will render this trail not for the faint of heart. I recommend not going right after it rained because the rocks were very slippery and there were lots of mud puddles. My friends and I and my dog had a wonderful time even though some of us fell in the creek and or mud. I would definitely go again.

We only hiked a short distance- picked the trail up off Balmoral Greens in Clifton. It was a little soggy from all the rains but a great time. Only saw two other people. We loved the rocks crossing the stream. A nice, easy hike!

Good place, small parking lot, lot of history nice for small hiking

Nice place for an easy hike (bike are not allowed) in the middle of the summer make sure to check yourself for ticks they are all over stay on the trail for best chance of not taking some home, great place to visit .

Nice spot for beginners like me, I try in the summer and mosquitos were in full force, will try fall and early winter to see how things go

Good trail if you want to be eaten alive by mosquitos, there are some turtles too.

Nice trail fits all purpose and all ages. Fatanstic view and many suprises if you like to explore.

I don’t know why people are saying it’s five miles. My tracker from the car was 4.0 miles which includes the 3-4 min we walked slightly off the trail.
All in all pretty manageable but if you have a kid under like 6-7 the far end when you go under the freeway you may need to carry them.
Pros: easy access in the heart of DC area, mostly shaded, scenic.
Cons: Unless you have headphones on you spend half of it listening to the cars on the road and the airplanes taking off from DCA.

Loved the side trails. Beautiful! Went on a weekday and there were few people.

Nice and flat. A few muddy spots and fallen trees (MTB obstacles). Good trail for intervals.

I run here all the time. Great trail that’s mostly flat and wide enough for multiple people. Perfect family trail and the marina has a carousel and mini golf in the summer.

We did a little over 6 miles and I think we could have done more. It was quiet and had such adventurous feel to it. I would definitely do it again.

Enjoying yes this trail since all Billy Goat trails were closed due to flooding.

not spectacular but pleasant and easy

Area is nice. Trails are marked but not well kept. Lots of different trails around the park and a nice visitor center. Also has a nature center but didn’t get a chance to check it out.

Great trail around Burke Lake. Saw waterfowl and deer along the route. Easy access from multiple locations around the lake.

We went on a rainy Sunday and there were only a few people around. The river trail was the rockiest, and the other trails were mostly gravel. Not too much incline either, so they were pretty easy to hike.

My wife and I found this trail enjoyable. The trail was well maintained and there was a lot to see and take in. Not to challenging but has some areas that definitely will increase your heart rate. The only negative was that the trail is not a dedicated loop as the name implies. There are many different and co-mingling trails in this area and the signage left much to desire, making navigation somewhat of a challenge.

Awesome!!

A gem! You completely forget that you are less than a half mile from Route 1. Amazingly serene. And there are some great side trails if you feel like exploring.
