We only did the first 1.5 and it was very steep. Bring water for you and your pets! No views in that section of the trail.

Beautiful trail and nice hike. Only downside is that they seem to have put new "No Parking" signs at the trailhead, so we were not sure where to park. We parked about a mile away on the road where we could pull off. Maybe someone else can provide recommendations on where to park!

this trail is beautiful and challenging

this was an easy well maintained trail. Enjoyed lunch while cooling off in one of the many fresh water holes

This is a really nice park for hiking, camping, horse back ridding and even peddle bike riding.
From easy to hard trails with great views.

Just did this hike today and was nice little hike. Only about 5 miles. Falls was beautiful. No people and free parking. Dirt road driving is rough so take proper vehicle.

Love this trail for horseback riding and hiking. Has been getting busier on the weekends with cars in the horse trailer parking.

Good uphill trail with progressive incline. There is no official parking lot or trail markers. You can park on the side of the road.
Trail length is 5.5 miles. View at the top is nice, although not the best.
The road is public with a few cars passing to watch out for on a few blind corners.

Went for a trail run, weather was warm, trail was perfect. There are bathrooms at the parking area and down by the river. All very clean, nice to have. Down by the water and a couple of places along the trail there are shaded sitting benches and even some picnic benches.

fun trail

It is a difficult trail coming out but the rewards of the swimming holes at the bottom are worth it!
Just take a lot of water with you and I don’t recommend doing in high temps and much of the trail is uncovered.

Tuesday, October 2, 2018: weather was supposed to be cool and possibly rainy- not so. The reviews are correct that it gets hot along the trail, although there was quite a bit of shade. It isn't a hike I'd like to do in the summer months; there are plenty of swimming holes in Northern CA closer to my home. It's more of a walk than a hike anyway as there were only a few uphills, etc. Deer, bear, and maybe cougar tracks seen in the dirt trail. The road in was gravel and washboard but didn't need 4 wheel drive. I was fine in my Fiesta. Did not see anyone else along the trail. 1 hour in, 1 hour out. Overall a fun walk and a lovely day.

Great walk. There are many places to start/end. We really like starting in downtown Folsom or at the trailhead parking lot of Parkshore Drive. You can choose to walk on the paved path or there is a rather nice dirt path used for "hiking", mountain bikes, and horses that is between the paved path and the river. It is nicely shaded and meanders nicely through the foliage.

It was beautiful, challenging and totally worth it!! You must make it to the top, the view is unbelievable. It was 6.70 miles round trip and elevation increase of 1680ft. .

great challenging hike with great views.

This is not a trail but a paved (public-ish) road that takes you up to the peak. There isn’t a sidewalk so you are walking on the road but there were hardly any cars when I walked it. I didn’t see a single other hiker on the way up or down. This was on an early Saturday morning.

Oh, and parking. There are some pullout spots that can accommodate a few cars near the marked beginning of the route. There is no actual parking lot that leads to any trail.

The view at the top is fairly decent, I would say if you’re looking to get a good workout hill climb, then you should check this one out. Takes about 1 hr to the top if you’re fairly fit, 45 mins back down for 1 hr 45 mins total.

This was a very beautiful trail. If you use the map it’s pretty easy to stay on track but you can adventure off if you want to as well. The sun will hit you for most of the hike so be prepared with enough water for everyone. I did this one without my 1.5 year old and I would recommend leaving the babies at home. Dogs had a blast but you’ll want to bring enough water for them too.

Amazing views of river, can be very hot midday and very little shade. The way there is mostly downhill which makes it very arduous coming back. The river is crystal clear and so refreshing and calm to swim in. Encountered 20-30 people in 4 hours.

This was a beautiful place to ride our horses and there was some shade, wide trails, and access to water at the falls. However, the access road to get in and out was absolutely awful. 5 Miles of loose, bumpy, rattily gravel that at times could only drive 5mph or under. Even had to use 4WD at one point because our truck tires were slipping. Very rough ride on the body, and worrying about the horses, and for that reason we will not go again.

Loved this hike, nice easy walk to the falls. Dogs loved it and enjoyed the shade spots for a few breaks. Would highly recommend

Great trail, easy enough for kids. My twin 6 year old boys made it all 5 miles in and out. Not much shade so dress light in summer and bring plenty of water. Only saw one other human on the trails.

go up training hill and down states fir a great run. about half way up training hill you can take pig farm as a shortcut to states if it gets to be too much.

Beautiful views with a smidge of challenge. Go early and wear a hat.

relaxing trail to feel at one with nature, complete with some great spots to dip your toes in the water and perhaps even make some friends

The trail was a waste of time. the waterfall was not as expected and the trail itself was very rough and unsafe.

River was crystal clear and good for jumping in. The markers are a little confusing. If you see gun shells or the shooting range, you went the wrong way. Got to go early or it's in the 90s with no cover on your way back.

Really enjoyed this trail! Great scenery with plenty of open clearings to enjoy it. The hike to the swimming spots was absolutely worth it as the water was clear and clean. Shade is limited after the first stretch so sun protection is recommended.

Downhill out, meaning uphill on the way back. Mostly gradual, with a few steeper sections. Much of the hike is on the side of the mountain with some cliffs so beware if afraid of heights. Nice views of the river. Shaded for about half of the hike. A 10 minute drive past Auburn does provide better scenery IMO.
