The beginning of the hike near the lake is flat, and enough to warm you up. Shortly after it is a steep incline up, and is slick after it rains. Once you make it up to the lake, the hike is well worth it. I brought my dog with me, and she struggled on the small-medium sized rocks around Rawson lake.

Loved it even though it is fairly well traveled with other hikers. Also recommend using crampons or some such device if the Park's trail conditions reports suggest it. We did not get very far since the trails were complete ice that day but were able to enjoy some by holding onto the railings.

October 11th 2018:

Such a good hike. Snow covered trails, kind of slippery at the beginning, cramps and poles recommended. starts off pretty steep, a bit of a slog, last 30 mins of the hike to the summit is slow and arduous, but at least the snow is packed and easily followed. moderate to difficult.

it is closed now!

Ran this trail yesterday as an alternative to ha ling as it is still closed.

Trails are pretty good, some icy spots on the way up. I used crampons in these areas just to be safe, but doable with good quality hiking boots/trail runners. I Definitely needed to bring wind stopper pants though, my insulated tights were not enough near the summit. Amazingly clear views.

Beautiful day on the trail on 10/14. Lots of fresh powder came in overnight. Some areas were quite icy, but it was very manageable if you come prepared and aren't hiking in sneakers. We saw less than 10 people total during our 3 hours out. Views were limited by the snow clouds, but it was still spectacular!

Went up today at 12:30. Beautiful snow covered trail. Good switch backs all the way up. Yaktraks were very helpful!

October 9
Cool hike, great views of the canyone and walking right above it on the path and grates. Very icy though, high fall risk, crampons suggested. The only problem with this hike being the amount of people there (high) and the amount of people falling and basically scrambling not to fall because of the ice.

It was beautiful but very icy! The whole trail was nothing but ice. Need some yak tracks and hiking poles. Went on 10/12 and it was very crowded on the way back down. Worth the views but definitely would wait until the summer to do it again.

For someone from Indiana this was definitely more moderate than easy.

Arrived a few weeks ago at 630am on a Friday. Parking lot was full at that time. Amazing views of the peaks. Some of the most scenic backdrops I have seen in a larch forest. Make sure to continue to Sentinel pass for more amazing views.

Gorgeous views! The journey was through snow and ice for the entire hike. Would recommend traction and waterproof shoes. Sunny and clear Friday oct 12 when we hiked but very windy, especially at the edge of the lakes!

Beautiful hike as expected but extremely windy! We started around 8:30 and the parking lot was pretty empty. Def would recommend wearing micro spikes because a good portion of the trail is very icy and also waterproof shoes! The wind was blowing so hard at Dream Lake I was sliding across the ice! It was pretty with the snow but hard to see the mountains. The trial was very crowded on our way back down so still would recommend going early.

Snowy but the view at the end is amazing. If you climb up, you can take the gondola down for free after 5pm during winter.

Snowy and icy! Bring your spikes for the hike and you’re good to go!

It was pretty chilly, but still beautiful! Took us about 3 hours with a lot of photo stops. Unfortunately we couldn’t see much of the mountains, but we got some pretty amazing photos of snow-laden trees being reflected in the waters. It was by far the busiest trail that we did all weekend, I can’t imagine what it would be like during peak season! We went early (around 8am) and didn’t have issues with parking. The lot was filled by the time we got back

Favourite lake in Banff!! ❤️

Ohh Devils Thumb, what can I say. The most challenging thing physically and mentally I’ve ever done! Also the most rewarding! My husband and I set out on this adventure for our 4th year wedding anniversary. We were definitely a little naive, this hike is no stroll in the park. Watch your footing and keep to the right. Unbelievable view from the top! This was the first mountain we’ve ever climbed. From start to finish approx 9 hours (with lots of breaks) and we have no experience. Definitely the highlight of our trip!

One of my personal favourite spots! Nature at its best! Hike was easy and rock climb was a fun challenge. We started this trail early evening and basically had it all to ourselves. Love. Love. Love. Would 100% recommend.

Lovely hike but you will want micro spikes especially for the trek up to the upper Falls. So many people slipping and sliding without them. Parking was no problem at 9:30 in a Thursday. Not crowded at all. But bring spikes!

One of my favorite hikes ever, even with the crowds. A must see during winter, too!

Hiked on Oct 9. The trail was snowy for the most part. Great hike overall! The clouds were overcast, but I still saw the beautiful views at the top. Prepare for more intense path inclines as you approach the summit.

Did this at sunrise. Lost the trail on the way up. Got the what we thought was a fork and went left, should have stayed right. It was so dark when we started i only saw 1 blue square the way up. Saw them all the way down.

Easy hike. Current snowy/icy conditions add a little more difficulty to get up to upper falls. Not as crowded due to overcast weather and trail conditions.

Beautiful views (until the clouds came in and our heads were literally in the clouds :) ) lovely hike - very cold at the weather station when we went up. The hike is a steady climb with great reward. So much snow up there already.

This is a very easy trail that is paved most of the way with handrails! The waterfalls are beautiful - however this is such a well know place make sure to get up super early to beat lots of crowds or try going during the week.

We hiked HooDoo Valley last weekend and loved it! We thought we lost the trail at one point and decided just to follow the creek bed and it turns out we went the right way! The caves at the top were amazing but definitely take a flashlight because it is dark. This hike took us 3.5 hrs including stopping to eat at the caves. I would totally reccommend this trail! So beautiful. We saw a few sheep on the hillside but other then that no animals. The view of Abraham Lake as you are hiking is amazing as well. There was some snow covering the scramble up to the caves but otherwise was fairly clear.

Nice trail but too many people!
