I did this hike in late August, along with the side shoot off that is very close to the beginning of the trail.

The water fall is very pretty and an easy walk.

The side trail, which is much more of an undertaking, goes up for about an hour on switch backs through the forest. This part if the trail is easy to follow and pretty safe.

But .. after that you reach a yellow sign that says avalanche danger, and they're not kidding about that. The trail becomes a slightly defined line of rocks in the midst of more rocks, which like to slip out from under your feet. It's hard to keep on the trail, and getting off is pretty sketchy. Luckily the fear of being buried under a rock slide dulls any physical pain from the steep climb itself.

Once you hopefully get past the water falls you come into a valley with glaciers. The water is as blue as the cracks in the ice. Three sharp black peaks sit behind the glaciers, shrouded in clouds.

I recommend doing the first part of the trail through the forest, it's harmless enough. But unless you're very adapt at the outdoors, don't go past the yellow warning sign. And definitely don't take any animals past it.

Not bad. Easy trail.

Beautiful view, well maintained trail

This peak took us almost 4hrs to reach the top, taking our time in some places due to the loose ground and a few steep areas that are probably out of most people’s comfort zone, but if you don’t mind heights, the view is unbelievable!

Was there a week ago. Absolutely worth the trek. Breathtaking hike.

Amazing views, and tons of water along the hike for pups to drink. The slow climb up to the lake makes the hike kind of easy. We would rate it “moderate” only because of the distance.

More of a nature walk but well worth the view at the end! Beautiful September weather!!

The mine was cool. The hike was very quick and easy. The lake was pretty. For pics and more info visit https://etbtravelphotography.com/2018/09/05/a-day-at-independence-mine-state-historical-park/

Hiking to rabbit lake is easy but very rocky roads. I would suggest a good hiking shoes and wind jacket. At the end it gets pretty windy. I loved the view ! Amazing! next time I'll go I'll camp there.

Beautiful, peaceful views of Gold Cord Lake at the top. We got up to the top in about twenty minutes, and took about that long to get back down again.

Great trail. Easy for those who hike often. I can see where it may be considered easy/moderate for some due to the slight incline of the trail. Beautiful views of the lake and Independence Mine once you reach the top.

Beautiful! Definitely pretty steep and strenuous, especially the last bit towards the top. But, once you get there you can see everything! Anchorage, the entire Valley, plus endless peaks.

This hike is amazing and the views are so stunning. We went out with the intentions that it was a very “easy” hike like most of the reviews claim, however I would consider it more moderate, especially for people who aren’t avid hikers. The first half is pretty easy, but towards the top it gets a bit sketchy and it’s pretty steep. Just know that you are going up the whole way. Once you get up there it is definitely worth it, and the way down takes half as long and is much more enjoyable!

Absolutely breathtaking views! We were saying how much it looks like the Alps up there. Lake is gorgeous. However I don’t agree with the rating of “Easy”. It was easy for myself and my mom who are active but I definitely wouldnt say people of all abilities could attempt this hike. Elderly or anyone with conditions in altitude shouldn’t do this. It gets a bit steep but only for a very short time.

We went up the ballfield and around Black Lake to climb up along the northern ridge. Would not recommend this route if looking for a relatively easy hike. Several spots with rather extreme exposure and not insignificant climbing was required. Once we connected with the main east-west running ridgeline, we still had a good bit to go until we made it to the actual peak. All in all it was good, but much longer and slower than expected due mostly to the route we chose. Next time, I'd go down Powerline and take the much easier path that splits off to approach the peak on its west-southwest side.

One of my favorite hikes!

Such a beautiful hike! Great for picnicking at the lake up top. Good hike for children- smaller kids should be carried on the second half that ascends up to the lake. Trail is narrow and not level. We are always treated to small wildlife and the water is so pretty.

Nice simple hike. Bring shoes you can get wet if you want to reach the falls

Signage at the beginning wasnt very clear luckily we figured it out. Very beautiful trail!! steep for the first bit then it is easy. Took my 3 kids 14,12 and 6 and they did it no problem!

Easy and quick family friendly hike. Definitely recommend this one.

Great trail, pretty easy but amazing views.. lots of water and big waterfall!! Glad I got to explore Alaska trails!!

Easy trail with a winding path up. Takes about half as long to get back down!

Great view at the lake. Good hike with moderate incline in the beginning but then it's flat. Coming back was faster. It was pretty windy near the lake. Glad I had a coat. This was not too far away and close to home.

Beautiful trail! My first real hike in a little long time (nope not saying how long). My avid hiker girlfriend and I settled for a total of 6.2 miles. I know she was wanting to do more, but I was thinking I still need to hike back so we turned around. Sure felt good to sit in our truck! No so much getting out of it. Lol. First of many beautiful hikes in Alaska for us!! Well groomed trail!

Enjoyable moderate hike. We parked before the fee area, so it’s a little further of a hike in to the actual trailhead. Lots of people on the trail yesterday afternoon/evening. There was a bull moose sighting, but no disturbance by said moose. There were two tents at Rabbit Lake, which looked like a scenic spot to camp for a night.

Great hike to a beautiful lake. At least the views that I could see below the low clouds.

Pretty easy trail and great for trail running because once you get up the little incline at the beginning it flattens out. No bears, No moose, and very dog friendly trail! This is my 4th time doing this one and I would recommend going on a clear day, the lake and suicide and homicide peaks will give you a phenomenal view

Nice waterfall. The upper viewing platform has the best view of the falls. The lower trail gets you closer and is much cooler near he river.
