Amazing to hike in the sunshine! some post holing.
The trail was beautiful and very easy but I didn’t get to see the glacier because it was covered by snow probably from avalanches. in the winter the trail is a mile longer because the road is not plowed to the parking lot for the glacier. The trail was also pa led pretty well when I went but crampon helped going all the way to where the glacier would be seen. In the winter just down the road is portage glacier which you can walk across the lake to get to.
The trail was deep with snow. Snowshoes required. We weren’t able to make it over the pass since the snow had built up and drifted the pass over. It was very windy but still great views of the mountains.
Fun hike. Trail was covered in snow so glacier was inaccessible but you could see a part of it.
Trail up to the second bench is packed down anything past that during the winter isn’t. I was able to make my way up to the ridge line to get the great view of the valley and lake. about 90% of the way past the second bench I bear crawled my way up the mountain side to distribute the weight as I broke trail in deep snow (about to my mid thigh and waste) with crampons and idk if it would have been any better with snowshoes. The way down was fun though I just slid on my butt back to the second bench. The trail I took was more direct and avoided the spur as much as possible so I wouldn’t be hit by the wind. When I did get to the point where I stopped wind was tocold for me to consider going any further.
Very nice in town option. Lots of powder today!
Beautiful
Great/easy trail conditions yesterday 14 Feb. microspikes recommended, but not even all that necessary. Lovely views, as always!
beautiful day not cold and no wind
While a little icy at spots, there were lots of alternative routes that made it quite manageable and overall an amazing little hike. I did it with my family including a 2 year old (who hiked the majority of it himself) in less than 20 minutes. I’d recommend spikes but they are clearly unnecessary (seeing as none of us had them:)
Well worth the hike! Can be done in snowshoes or without.
Amazing!!
Great packed snow, some soft spots but amazing views!!!
Very icy def want spikes but a beautiful little walk through the woods to some pretty iced waterfalls
Great trail conditions and weather! Micro spikes made it very easy.
A very beautiful trail with fresh streams for your water bottle. I filled my water bottle several times because the hike is pretty difficult but manageable if you pace yourself. While going up several hikers warned me of a black bear roaming around and offered I hike with them. I declined and pushed on because I had my bear spray handy. There is a plateau after the tree line so you can take a rest and view the glacier. It gets pretty steep after that and e trail is well established. I hiked alone in July and there was about 50 hikers going up and down. I would do this hike again because the views are astonishing and it is well worth it once you get to the ice field. There was a sheep and her baby at the top resting and grazing. It took me 6 hours to get to the ice field and I was hiking pretty fast.
steep. miserable. drifts at the peak make for very questionable plowing through to the finish. unreal views though. complete it in the winter at your own discretion.
easy trail. glacier covered in snow. didn't get to see it. sad
Very icy and shroud have cramp-on’s!
Adventure Biking
It’s very icy and there’s quite a bit of dog poop, but the falls and flora are absolutely gorgeous!
This trail is not to be ignored in the winter. It is a wonderful x-c ski trail. Find the pull on right that is plowed.
