The trail was easy for my husband and I to navigate with our dogs. The signs for the trails were very clear and understandable for beginners. The only issue we had was nobody put a leash on their dog and they kept running up to ours.
Windy, snow drift, difficult today.
Well worth the hike! Can be done in snowshoes or without.
easy trail. glacier covered in snow. didn't get to see it. sad
Adventure Biking
Great experience! Hiked up to the saddle after a snow fall, was a bit of a challenge without any trekking poles but well worth the fun and view! Caught the sunset during the descend!
Great winter hike!
Nice little 3m hike in winter.
Icy, I recommend spikes
The trail was fairly easy to walk. Lots of snow. The path is hard to see but once you get on it you should be fine. If you’re like us, and we’re looking for the cave.. couldn’t find it! But enjoyed the hike!
It was very snowy and little visibility, would love to do this again in the summer!
Sloppy. Rainy. Got soaked. Bad weather. But great trail.
easy, beautiful scenery
Great little hike! It’s packed down enough to just use hiking boots and cleats. Was a bit slick with the warmer weather today. We used poles to help balance on the slick parts but snow was too deep and trail hard packed to be useful in areas.
This is fantastic hike that is just minutes away from Anchorage. For a winter ascent I would recommend: >Trekking Poles >Ice Axe >Microspikes >Hiking with a Partner For the most part, the trail was broken-in and hard-packed. I used the trekking poles for the first 3/4 of a mile or so and then switched over to the ice axe. There were some steep segments during the final 1/3 of the hike and I would not have made absent my ice axe. The ice axe was also helpful coming down these steep segments. I would also recommend doing this hike with a partner during the winter. If one were to fall/slip on the final 1/3, they would fall/slide a considerable distance. It would be good to have someone with you. The views are spectacular. This was first my hike in Alaska and I highly recommend it! Great hike. Lots of snow. The snowshoes were vital. A storm was coming in so it was pretty windy with flurries, especially in the pass itself. But we thoroughly enjoyed it!
Beautiful trail, not a ton of people on it even on NYE. Very icy in spots. Only able to get to the Hand Tram since it was closed, but it was a nice out and back!
