Great hike! Blue glacier covered with snow but still a lovely hike with a great view! Very windy and Lots of ice today, minimal pockets of deep snow before you get to the pass. Started too late @ 1 pm and was nearly to the lake at 2:30. Had to turn around as it’s DST and after the sun went behind mountain at 3:30 things just became more dim. Got to my car at 4:30 very dusky & Probably dehydrated at that time. Remember to drink water when it’s cold outside. You need it and don’t realize it.
Gorgeous sunny day and only 4 people at the pass and no one else. The gentlemen said it’s a 4 hr hike minimum. 2 hrs there and 2 hrs back. Happy hiking!

Moderate is appropriate. It is challenging towards the top, but I carry an extra 40 lb with the baby carrier. Beautiful views.

Made it to Upper Reed Lake on 10/23/18.
I parked in the turn around spot across from the fee station because the trailhead parking lot would have destroyed my car’s undercarriage, and it only added maybe 5 minutes to my hike.
The trail was pretty easy until you get to the boulders. I needed my nano-spikes and I’m glad I had them in my pack. After the boulders I wish I also had packed my snow-shoes, and I lost the trail. I followed some faint leftover ski tracks but was very cautious because of not being sure if where I was stepping was actually solid ground. I had intended to get to the bomber, but I’ll wait till spring/summer when the trail is easier to spot and follow. No animal sightings.

Perfect day for this hike! Trail was a little muddy after the rain yesterday and then the top had some snow. But the trail was evident with all the foot traffic. Clear enough to see Denali and the views from the peak were incredible. Saw 3 moose on the way up and then 20 sheep (3 different groups) at the peak. Definitely will do again. Enjoy!

Niiiiiicceeee

Beautiful hike.

Quick beautiful hike. Definitely check the weather before you go because doing this trail after/during rainfall would make it a lot more dangerous. I would also consider it to be more moderate than easy. A little strenuous at times, but so worth it when you make it to the top.

Worth the hike!!! :) definitely doing this trail again!

Absolutely gorgeous. I wouldn’t suggest doing it in the rain or snow as the boulder fields would be pretty tricky and you could easily break an ankle if wet but a stunning hike. Finished in 5 hours.

Well worth the effort. Camped at the top. Bring at least 3 liters of water if you're doing the whole trail, especially if the sun is out. There are many streams if you have a filter.

awesome trail! the peak of the trail has an awesome look out! did the trail in October, and it was a little chilly at the top but just plan accordingly for the weather.

The toughest part of the trail is the beginning with a pretty steep elevation. The trail is well maintained but due to the small gravel type rocks traction is iffy. The payoff of the glacier and portage lake is so worth it though. Pack a lunch and find a nice secluded spot around the side of the lake to enjoy.

Just did O’Malley today! Took 3.5 hours roundtrip, however my friend and I ran up to the ascent before little Omalley, then the ball fields, and then down the scree coming back. Every opportunity we could. It’s an incredible hike but does require some confidence when heading up the gulley of big Omalley. We took the goat paths whenever we could find them but it was not technical at all. The view from the top, on a bluebird day, is incredible and well worth the trek! Saw about 4 bull moose and a cow coming back. Pretty highly trafficked, but not too many people once you leave the ball fields and start heading up big Omalley. Totally doable hike!

Great views in early September, had a clear day in the high 50’s F*. Finished in a few hours then went to pizza man. “Big win”

Awesome view at the top!

another must do! really nice wide gravel trail to start with a couple of bridges to cross the river. then a switchback climb leading you past a waterfall and onto a more challenging boulder field to navigate. once you are through the boulders, there is a gradual incline before making it to the first reeds lake. if you have more time, I recommend continuing on the the 2nd lake.

The last 200 feet is very difficult. I got to see some moose on a side trail and the view was outstanding. It was a heavily trafficked trail, but I knew that going in, from the other reviews. I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a challenge.

Good views like every other mountain in the state, this app labels it as hard but it’s definitely not. It should be rated as moderate.

Had a frightening bear encounter with a sow and three cubs less than a mile in and sadly didn't get to do the hike this day. It's on my "to conquer" list now for sure. Be alert and be bear aware through here folks.

Gruelling hike up and down but well worth every bit of the effort. one of the most amazing and rewarding views in my 66 years on the planet

It’s uphill all the way but the views are 100% worth it.

really steep to climb but worth it.. amazing view..

One of the most beautiful hike in Kenai Pensilvania.

This peak took us almost 4hrs to reach the top, taking our time in some places due to the loose ground and a few steep areas that are probably out of most people’s comfort zone, but if you don’t mind heights, the view is unbelievable!

Beautiful hike. Make sure that you apply some insect repellent. I would recommend returning from the end well at least an hour before the sunset.

Beautiful views !

Dang my feet hurt! And my knees! Good thing this was a pretty hike! Saw like 8 marmots!! And the icefield, which was pretty cool too. Sept 11, 2018. 7.5 hr RT.
