Hiking

Please please PLEASE CLEAN UP! I hiked the trail solo early this morning and by the time I had gotten back to the car I had a giant trash bag filled to the brim! Have some respect for nature and please stop leaving your trash all over this beautiful trail. I found clothes, underpants, towels, on top of so many cans and it really breaks my heart. If you can't have respect for nature then trash your house instead.

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=4045732755442161&id=190083644340444&__tn__=%2As%2As-R Closed for covid, not the death. Also not an overdose. Link on the story for those who asked about it. But yes, there was still a dead body in the springs. Stay safe and be respectful!

As per the Forest Service, the trail and springs are still closed. You folks going up there now are being disrespectful and breaking the law.

Gorgeous! Forgot my sunglasses on a rock though . People left wet clothes and towels behind. But other than that! The hike was pretty and the springs were awesome! Also very slick spots with all the packed ice.

I echo the person below me. The amount of trash is disappointing. Please practice LNT and carry out trash as you see it when possible.

Backpacked out 50 lbs of trash around the springs, including 10 soggy towels and bathing suits....please LEAVE NO TRACE. If each person who reads this can pick up 5-10 pieces of trash on their hike, we can keep this spectacular place beautiful!

It was much longer than we anticipated, and a few spots are a little bit sketchy in the snow. But the hot springs were amazing! Worth it.

Despite closures, this is obviously still being accessed. As of 3/7, the road is gated closed ~1.3 miles before the trailhead. THIS MEANS THIS IS NEARLY AN 8 MILE ROUND TRIP HIKE. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE IT. Most of the trail is packed snow and very slick in spots, depending on the time of day. Spikes, yak tracks, or poles will make the trek significantly less difficult. Saw a lot of underprepared folks who didn’t make it all the way, or were going to have a long, cold hike back. But, the destination is worth it if you can make it there!

HikingGreat!Icy

Don't let the narcs dissuade you - this trail is very much OPEN and AWESOME. It's a little icy on the trail if you go in the morning, so either bring some spikes / poles, find a walking stick, or be prepared to walk off the trail during those sections. I left a walking stick by the gate next to the bathrooms and he seemed to really enjoy the trail, so if anybody wants to take him for a ride he'd love it. Not to anthropomorphize a walking stick, but its a good one. I'm rambling... great trail, open, have a ball!!

This is an awesome hike and destination but it is definitely closed right now. You can park 1.5 miles from the trailhead and people have pulled off a lot of the closed signage. We didn’t hike it today since it’s closed, but it’s one of our favorite family hikes when it’s open. Make sure to go in the day if you’re going with family. A lot of crazies go at night.

Not sure if this is the reason why it’s still closed but it was originally closed because they found a dead body in the hot springs that was already decomposing. It contaminated the water. So just an FYI.

Went this Saturday around 2:00pm, parked the closest possible to the main trailhead. Parking spaces were available near the closed gate entrance. You have to walk on the road a bit before you pass the closed/roped off main entrance to the hot springs. The road and hike are icy so I recommend micro spikes or crampons for safety. Some people were wearing tennis shoes and they kept falling throughout the hike. It was beautiful. Got to the springs around 4:00pm, around 30 people present and plenty of springs left to hop in.

This is definitely still closed check the Facebook page for updates don’t trust the morons saying it’s open. Our park rangers do so much already don’t make them have to give you a citation

They definitely are CLOSED. Do some research before you head somewhere. Check the usda.gov forest service site. Give them a call. There are also signs posted saying closed until further notice. Even the title on this site says closed. I have not been there in a few years now, not sure why it says I completed it 2 days ago, that's false. I have enough respect for the forest service to abide by what they say. They close areas for a reason.

Maybe you all should read the sign before you venture out. This area is still closed and punishable by a $5000 fine or more.
