Adventure Awaits Map

This time of year, the prairie dogs weren't out at all. Last time we literally saw hundreds. Easy hike and great views of Pikes Peak from mostly the west side north to south. At several points, you can see from Pikes Peak on the south to beyond Longs Peak to the north. Views to the east are mostly looking down at farmland toward Franktown. Visibility was great the whole time. Plan to take g-kids out there soon.

Still a winter wonderland and definitely worth a visit. Hiked on 3.18.18 in boots with a friend hiking in tennis shoes. Doable, but spikes/more tread would be helpful on the way down! The trail itself is hard to see in some places, but mostly just follow the packed snow. What a dream.

Breathtaking views from this busy trail. Went on March 18, 18 before the expected snow. crampons or spikes were a must, those without them were REALLY struggling. Didn't quite see the need to go as extensive as snow shoes, while many had them. my 5 y.o., wife and I did great with just the crampons, enjoying every mountain view along the way. Lots of deer, and elk not from from the trailhead as well.

Hiked today. Went left into the loop as the right side is steeper and better for going up at the end than down.
~10% of the trail was icy and the ice was hidden in the mud/dirt but easily avoidable.
2.5 hours with a short snack break and a couple of water breaks.

Steep hike so bring an extra pair of lungs if you’re built for speed, not for comfort. Great views with rock formations at top. Great place to hang out in the sun for a bit.

Great interval training, good views and not crowded

Trail was very snowy and due to the past few days of wind the snow wasn't very packed. Super beautiful and amazing hike and there were plenty of people on the trail, but I would not recommend it without snow shoes

Hiked 3/13 with boots plus 30 lbs of camera gear, 20oz of water, a camera monopod/tripod/walking stick, and a MacBook Pro 15 (Which I regret carrying). Trail is mostly snow and very little ice unless you include the frozen lake. Great for first timers during all seasons. Definitely quite the winter wonderland and there's a fair amount of friendly people throughout the trail.

Hiked 3/14. Great hike for people who are familiar with the outdoors. We hiked with just hiking boots but microspikes would have definitely been handy as the snow was a bit slick/slippery. Beautiful weather made it an incredibly beautiful hike. When we arrived at Emerald Lake it was extremely windy but we were able to sit and take in the majesty of the lake for a few minutes before we headed back.

Hiked this today 3/15. It was still extremely muddy and icy in some spots. Micro spikes weren’t necessary but there were a few spots around the 3/4 mark part of the trail that were kind of sketchy and slippery. Also my activity tracker said this loop was closer to 5.6 miles instead of the listed 4.8 here. If you go from
Beaver to Chavez it is mostly downhill the first 2 miles, then some ups and downs the next 1-2 with some steep, rocky sections and winding ledges with steep drop offs, the last section is a lot of uphill which is tough after being spent energy-wise on the first part. Overall I enjoyed this trail but feel it’s probably better in summer. I will wait until then to return.

PS I took my two small older (almost 10 yo) dogs on this trail and they loved it. Had no problems. I think they would love this in the summer when they can cool off in the little creeks!

Great trail for beginners like myself! Can’t wait to go in the summer

Very nice hike:). We hiked this trail in mid March and experienced very comfortable weather. A lot of elevation change which was gradual and consistent.

Very nice trail with fair elevation changes. Trail was a bit muddy, but that’s to be expected this time of year. I would definitely recommend this trail to others

Amazing hike!

The path is extremely icey right now! I expected better scenery through the hike- I think this would be a much better hike for spring/summer.

A quick steep climb. A good walk in the woods.

Excellent views and waterfall

Did the hike on Sunday, 3/4, and the snow was packed down enough to hike in my hiking boots. I had Yaktrax on, which helped a lot after the sun got warmer and slushed up the snow on some of the steeper parts. The trail does take on a few different paths at points, but they all converge together eventually. Get there early, too! I got there at about 9:30, and the giant lot was already half full, and by the time I got down around 11:30, it was completely full.

Snow is packed enough to do in boots!

Hiked about a month or so ago and loved this one. I had never taken this road around Moraine Park so it was a completely new area of the park for me. Not many people at all compared to the huge crowds at Bear Lake or Glacier Gorge Trailheads.

Fern Lake is beautiful and has some incredible views once you get out there. The 25+MPH winds were the reason I only spent a few minutes out there even though I would have loved to spend much longer out there.

My wife, and dog went yesterday. Lots of ice and snow on this trail, but it is only March. Was very slippery in spots. Did the whole trail in about 3.5 hours, but we were taking our time, stopped to eat, etc. Foot traffic wasn't too bad. Not a very scenic trail this time of year, but still very fun. Most of the creeks were frozen over.

Beautiful start to finish

Beautiful hike and great length. Only thing that was tough is it was very snowy and we forgot to bring spikes/ snow shoes.

Very fun short trail the steps are a killer once you hit about 100 our whole family does it and really enjoys the time

Snowshoed this trail last night at full moon light. Nice short trail and spectacular views. The peaks were lit up with the reflection off the snow. Can't wait to get back here and see it in the daylight!

Steep climb with nice views from the top. Make sure when at the top go to all sides to get a 360 view.

Went yesterday. Pretty icy in spots and most of trail snow packed, but the sun was melting it quickly. Be careful if you go down Chavez as it is steep with much ice. I wore yak tracks and it was fine. Beautiful day hardly anyone else—on a Tuesday.

Nice short hike and the view was great! Was able to hike with just boots but trail was packed from snow shoers.

Slept in my truck to wake up to the sunrise. Well worth it! Beautiful views
