This trail is very heavily trafficked trail that leads to the start of the lower narrows. It is a nice walk along the Virgin river but is built for the high traffic so you are walking on concrete or pavement most of the way up. We had great views of the waterfall on our hiking day because it has snowed the night before and the snow was melting.

Awesome hike...only able to go about .25 miles in the river because of some rain but it was just stunning.

Trail is easy to get to a flat. I would recommend going early in the morning. It was quiet and serine walking through the water and having the canyon walls shooting up around us. Despite going the first week of March after we had turned around to head back around 10:30 there were numerous louder groups coming through so we were glad we had gone earlier.

We brought our own waders to go in the river, and we had no issues with the cold water. However, our feet were a bit sore when we were done. Would have been nice to have the water hiking shoes like the ones they rent out. Beautiful views, and when we started as the sun was rising there was no one else on the trail yet.

Rent the gear!!!! It is well worth the money if you want to get past 2 steps in the river. The views are spectacular and so different than other hikes. Be prepared for extremely slippery rocks underneath you that you can’t see. Start early!!!! Beat the crowds. We went in march and took the first 7:00am shuttle.

This was hands down one of the hardest hikes I’ve done. Went in early March, was cold and wore water suits. The hike just goes on and one from warm temps to seeing snow on trees to seeing leaves to the rock scramble back to the car. Pure hell. BUT. When you enter the Subway it’s just pure magical. Bring lots of water.

Great hike! The water is very cold, so don’t plan on swimming! Worth the trek!

Beautiful hike through the old growth cedars along the creek, ending at a glacial lake with great waterfalls and thick plant life everywhere!

a long yet if your up for the 14 mile hike and XC skiing well worth it hike! amazing views from the start to finish! We thought we would be the only people up there, but there was about 6 other people behind us. make sure to start early, it took us about 12 hours, because of the road being closed 5 miles before the trail!!!

This time we didn’t go in the water we just did the riverside and there were so many squirrels ❤️

Incredible. Completed in October and only wore wading boots (they were my Orvis fly fishing boots) and was comfortable. Feet got a little chilly, but warmed up on the walk back to the Grotto station. One of the coolest things I’ve ever done, hands down.

This was a blast.

Super easy bike ride with amazing views!

Hiked 02/17/18. Beautiful views. Really simple hike. This was the first hike my boyfriend and I did on our first day (we were both exhausted but still wanted to explore). Got a little chilly when you're forced to walk in some shaded areas so bring a jacket just in case you go during this time :) Can take some fun pretty pictures on the rocks near the virgin river.

A truly unique hiking experience with 95% of the hike in water for feet wet fun. A good pair of water shoes is important for support against twisting an ankle on the river stones. Whether you hike a short distance or further up the slot canyon this is a bucket list trail.

Very interesting hike! I'd suggest renting the gear at this time of year. We were very warm no issues with it. Great views. Not too strenuous

Amazing hike! We hiked this in September 2017, the trail is easy to follow and offers spectacular views the entire time. It passes through dense forest and open valleys, waterfalls and great views of the glaciers. We started early in the day and only saw 2 other hikers. Bring lots of water and a sandwich and snacks. Carry bear spray. The trail passes through prime grizzly habitat, so make lots of noise. The views of Iceberg Lake are amazing and there is another lake right before Iceberg Lake that is stunning as well.

We rented the gear and went up to Floating Rock until the water began to rise higher than our hips. My husband and I hike quite a bit and the Narrows has to be one of my top five hikes. It was such a beautiful, albeit challenging, hike. We are so happy to have done this!

Took it up into Orderville Canyon until the little waterfall.

Absolutely great hike, not too difficult, beautiful breath taking views.

Great trail but it is strenuous. Our small group ranged from 55-70 years old and had a wonderful trip but climbing that steep 400 ft cliff at the end took about an 55 minutes with a few rest stops. We were pretty tired by then and glad we hiked it in February with cooler temps.

My Garmin GPS and a phone app recorded 10 miles round trip and took us 8 hours, stopping for photos on the way up. However, after uploading the trail, it appears the signal near the Subway became erratic and may have added another mile or so. The trail (round trip) is certainly longer than 6.5 miles, probably 8-9 1/2 miles. Also, the dinosaur tracks way-point is incorrect as listed on All Trails. It's upstream further and well worth finding. It's on the north side of the river and the trail runs right next to the gray rock with the tracks. My coordinates are N37° 17.979' W113° 04.199'

We had water shoes and pants but did not wear or need the pants going up, however, my wife and I wore them coming down river so that we could walk in the river instead of having to climb up and around boulders. I think it's a little safer than taking chances hoping from rock to rock on the all the river crossings.

First hike I completed in the park and the view you are rewarded with at the end is well worth it. Be sure to carry bear spray, even though it is a very popular hike and almost always crowded during tourist season you still have a chance at seeing a bear.

Pristine scenery. Never seen anything like it.

The hike on the paved trail is beautiful and very relaxing. Hiking past the paved trail in the water was just amazing! Didn't bring the insulated shoes, but did have watershoes to put on when getting to that section of the hike. Didn't get as far as I'd have liked, but loved every second of what I did experience. Even the numb, cold and wet feet! :-)

nice walk very beautiful had a great time

A short and easy hike through the woods with a spectacular lake framed with mountains at the end and a nice stream with small waterfalls at the beginning. The chipmunks and golden-mantled ground squirrels by the lake are so used to human presence, you can observe them from closer up than anywhere else I've ever been.
If you have a half-afternoon free and happen to be in the area, this hike is an absolute must! Just expect parking to be somewhat difficult at peak season, as the hike is very popular.

Easy hike, with a beautiful setting.

Nice walk through the forest , much of it on boardwalk. Plenty of room. Great look at some amazing trees up close Fallen cedar with roots on end is an amazing natural work of art !

Great trail. A fairly easy trail with spectacular views. Was there at end of August 2017 , was a bit warm but not bad. Still had plenty of icebergs to see and water was beautiful, would love to take the Oru Kayak up sometime . Take plenty of water First half of hike more in the trees so more blind corners on the trail , just keep talking , leave the bell at home .
