This was a great hike with mild elevation change. Went on a clear day and the view from the peak is amazing. On one side you have mountains and the other you see the ocean.

Very special place. It's one that we've been talking about doing for a long time but I guess it was so close we always put it off. Move it to the top of your list of hikes within an hour of Portland.

For how popular this hike is I thought it would be over rated but it’s not. Short but steep and starts that way almost from the get go. Gorgeous view of route 26 fog early in the mornings looking east. Advice is to take the quick humbug trail for excellent views of this. The trail at times can have some mild flowing water in spots but easily avoidable. Views abound after the half way point allowing easy viewing of the coast and many peaks in all directions. Dress warm at the top. Wind likes to funnel up the range.

Difficult road to travers to the actual trail head unless you have an all wheel drive vehicle. We walked the road to the TH and the trail itself is not long but steep and appearing not formerly maintained. The hike is sleek with rock and covered in fallen leaves making it difficult to traverse in many areas. The pay off is well worth the jaunt with a beautiful falls. The drive to this falls is also splendid.

This hike is on the tougher side! The loop on this trail map includes the "most difficult" section (left) and the "difficult" (right). We opted to do the "difficult" as an out and back, which is actually just a bit longer than doing the loop. Some areas are super steep, and there are rocks on the trail as you get up towards the summit. The views are amazing, and the wind whips pretty wild up top. Our dog was fine the entire way, and we ended at 7.6 miles in 3.5 hours, including a 20 minute break at the top for snacks and photos.

Quite a difficult hike but worth it! Very beautiful forest.

Can’t really talk about the view since I was in a cloud the whole hike but i will say i don’t think this hike is very safe for children due to the rock slides. Overall a Moderate hike not to bad

Bring hiking poles or Yak Tracks in winter. Could be very slippery and possibly dangerous. Very populated but is a beautiful hike. Can get up high above the trees for a substantial portion of the hike and can see the Tillamook forest, the coast, and the three big volcanoes of the area. This is a very beautiful hike, well worth it. Have fun.

Nice steady climb up hill. Several small waterfalls to enjoy along the way. The Wilson River follows the path quite aways and the sound of rushing water adds to the nice walk.

This was a fun hard hike. There are some slippery places on the trail because they laid down metal mesh to try and stop trail erosion but with good shoes and being careful it shouldn't be to bad. Some amazing views even on a cloudy rainy day.

Absolutely gorgeous! made it to the white locked fence easily thanks to the directions of *always staying to the left and down hill * directions once turn off of Crooked Finger Rd. Took second trail as stated below with Abbey Foundation sign and it was a quick hike in staying left once we hit the river.
Definitely going back once every season this next year !

Completed 10-8-18
Went in the dark, still a fun hike

Hiked this on 10/13/18 (a beautiful, sunny Saturday) and only saw one other couple on the way in and some folks on horses on the way out. Hiked all the way to the tower at the top. Beautiful views!!

The directions on All Trails plugged into my gps on my iPhone and took us directly to the parking lot (which is very small) without any problem.

Great trail and views. Bring water for yourself and your dogs. If you do bring a dog be aware of there padded feet and the wires on the trail. I helped a 90lbs lab down the hill that had tore her pads.

Started this hike in the later afternoon on 10/21/18 and was glad I brought the headlamps for the trip back down the mountain. There are many trailheads in this area and I was glad I picked this one. I always try to use map my ride app to track steps, distance and time which read 6.52miles. We did have to take the left at the very top because the marked trail on all trails was closed. Very enjoyable hike with several changes in terrains. It will get your heart rate up with the constant uphill that which is gradual to moderate. There is a bathroom at the trailhead and there is a $5 parking fee unless you have northwest forest pass.

Too smoggy today. Can’t see the coast line and mountains. Trail is very treacherous, lots of small rocks like marbles.

You have the choice of taking either the, "difficult" route or the, "more difficult" route. I regret to tell you I took the, "more difficult" route. It. Kicked. My. Ass. It was relentless. Constant climbing. Zero breaks. I recommend taking the, "difficult" route. Some parts of the trail, especially towards the top, are rocky. Wear legit hiking boots/shoes. I saw quite a few people wearing tennis shoes, which seemed really dangerous and stupid. The views are gorgeous, and even though I felt like jello by the end of it, it was worth it. This hike took me just under four hours. There's a $5 fee and a bathroom at the start of the trail.

Go clockwise.

On a warm, sunny mid-October morning the trailhead parking lot was near full by 9:30 am. The trail is steep with a few small scrambles near the top, and amazing views at the peak. Go on a clear day to see the full beauty.

Amazing. Hard ascent but absolutely worth it

Great hike! Go on a clear day and you’ll get amazing views from the top. It took me about 1.5 hours to get to the summit. When driving there you’ll see that the directions on All Trails is a little off, but once you get close there are signs that direct you toward the trailhead.

beginning of trail: about 1ish miles in, it's not to bad..but after that it gets steeper. lots of little rocks, luckily chicken wire is used over most of that part. I used this app to record the hike and it ended up 5miles, we didn't werv into any other place.
when you think you got there ..you haven't. you will know. it's beautiful! do it!
the photo above is from a different angle..than from staying on the trail.

Up was hard, it keeps going up with very few breaks but worth the views. I stayed to the right which stays closer to thev river with a nice view point. When I got to the top I went off the back and looped around to the other trail. I wish I would have went back down the way I went up. The views were better going up. The down was much harder the the up, legs were jello when I got back to the car.

This trail so super steep but so super rewarding. spectacular views. great work out. deffently a do again. some hands needed. strongly recommend poles.

Beautiful

fun 8 mile hike with gorgeous views at the top. definitely take the time to climb up the first rocky outcropping before the boulder field for a preview of the views to come! the boulder field looks daunting but the trail is fairly clear once you get going.

This is a great trail on a clear day. The views at the top are really beautiful. There is loose rock at some points along the trail but overall it wasn’t too bad. Be careful going downhill. Took a little over 3 hrs to complete round trip.

Definitely longer than 7 mile. This hike is a bit over 8 miles. Also when you are on the trail and encounter the first rock slide, don’t deviate left and up as you will be going the wrong way. Stay right and you will be fine.

Great hike! The trail at the trailhead is not marked, so you need to look for it. It’s not the main trail that you see
