great hike! great view from the top and overall a nice trail. trail could use some maintenance (lots of downed trees) but overall well marked.

Easy hike for the area, not too technical but the last half of the trail gets steep enough to make you question your life choices after doing a 6 mile hike the day before. The views are spectacular, especially at the end of the day. As others have mentioned, there are some downed trees and some especially wet/muddy spots. The trail near the pond is overgrown. I’d still recommend it though!

Me and my two daughters Tessa (10) and Nora (8) did this hike today and it was well worth it. Took about an hour to reach the top and the views were great at the top. Not a bad hike at all, would definitely do it again

A beautiful hill walk or hike. Great view of Lake Champlain and the High Peaks. I did not find the trail difficult to follow.

Been hiking snowy for 20 years, every time we come to Indian Lake. Took our ambitious 6 year old one year which was a bit much for him. Last part is a scramble and some friends we've taken have really struggled, but if you are in decent shape it is not hard. Views from fire tower are worth every step.

Did this hike a couple days ago, was great. Did it with two dogs they loved it. Only three other people logged in that day. Wasn’t too bad, took us about an hour 15 to get up and it’s a great trail to jog down.

Steep and rocky but short. Hiked this with my 10 and 11 year olds. Took about 20 minutes to reach the pond. Very beautiful. Nice place to swim. There were some rocks to jump off of. Didn't stay long because we were trying to beat the rain. Hoping to do it again before we leave Lake Placid.

My husband and I did this hike on a beautiful Saturday. We started earlyish (8am) and saw about half a dozen people on our way up, about twenty at the summit, and a handful on the way down. All this to say we liked how less traveled this trail was! The first mile and a half are very easy hiking, it's the second half of the hike that really goes up up up! It took us about an hour and a half to summit. The fire tower at the top was awesome and the views were breathtaking. I would do this hike again!

first 2 miles are enjoyable with mostly hard packed dirt, roots, and occasional rocks. the last mile made me almost turn around...we had our boxer dog on leash and she needed to be lifted at times. toward the top it gets really hard to keep on trail. we missed trail to tower to find an even better lookout. on way down, we found tower. I would do this again, with more daylight to enjoy the amazing views. my app and watch said it was over 8 miles.

Was able to do the whole trail right around 2 hours up and down. Definitely a great trail for the short distance.

Good easy hike with family and small dog!

Hiked this trail on 8-2-18. It is.not difficult for anyone in normal health I was with two 50 that were able to easily complete the trip.
The trail was well maintained. The views are very nice. There is some interesting moss hanging from the trees. More like something you’d see in Louisiana. The top was busy with people chatting and relaxing. The fire tower offered nice views to many lakes and ponds as well as the mountains. I had binoculars with me which mad viewing even better.
I would do this hike again.

A very well-maintained trail with beautiful views from the fire tower. We thought it was perfect; challenging but not too steep. We arrived at 10:30am on a Saturday in early August. The parking lot was half full. When we finished, the lot was nearly full. Out and back took us 3 hours with a leisurely break at the top. We met a lot of friendly hikers. We stopped at the Adirondack Interpretive Center for a picnic lunch on the way home.

Great experience for all hikers, wonderful views. Starts off slow but gets pretty steep and requires some endurance but nothing extreme.

The views from the tower are really good. The trail towards the top gets steep but it's all worth it when you see the views. The trail breaks off on the left after the rangers cabin about 50 yards give or take. The trail was easy to miss due to no markers. It's marked now, with red DEC marker.

Beautiful hike. Not a fan of climbing fire towers but I did it! Worth every step!

Started easy then get harder after the cabin. Last 1/2 miles is very steep, almost gain 1000 elevation. Trail easy to follow, no view on top unless climb up the tower. Solid 1 1/2 hike up and 1 hr hike down with fee short stop.

The first three miles were easy, nothing strenuous. The final push to the summit is steep and very tough! It is nearly a mile of serious climbing. It was a challenge for me, but my son basically jogged up to the summit, arriving 30 minutes before me. The view from the cliff face is spectacular. Push on to the tower about 50yards further, and take in the 360 views. The tower needs a little work, as some fencing was missing from this higher levels, but it’s strong otherwise. We did the climb after 5 days of rain, a little slick and muddy, but not terrible. The descent was difficult in the steepest section, after that it’s an enjoyable walk back to the vehicle. My app said it was 8.1 miles round trip.

1st mountain I’ve hiked! Great experience. Definitely got harder the last mile. Moderate traffic but not too bad. The view was amazing from the fire tower!

Spectacular views but can get pretty muddy towards the top!

Nice gentle ascent to the top. Nice views when you climb the fire Tower.

Took us 2 and a half hours to get to the top, and 2 hours and 20 to get down with a few minute breaks. Beautiful views, worth the trip, definitely a hard trail for beginners.

As everyone said, easy start and then some tougher spots, but nothing technical, just challenging. Not great for beginners and not for anyone out of shape.
That said, I'm no athlete! Great views from the beautiful summit. We got chased off by an approaching thunderstorm that made the hike even more memorable. There are lots of other peaks in the area that I'd like to try, but I might hike this one again, if that is an endorsement.

took me an hour and 57 minutes to summit, the last 1/2 mile is steep and challenging if the trail is muddy, but well worth the trip up.

One of the best trails I've done. It is a bit of boring in the beginning, but once you get to the top you have fascinating views in both directions and a pretty long ridge to walk to the end of the trail. The elevation is not too hard.

How neat is the view from here? I had half of my father's ashes strewn on the summit.

Great hike for all ages. Nice views of the High peaks. Trail is a bit overgrown by the Beaver Pond, long pants and long sleeve shirt are helpful.

We did this hike as part of the Adirondack Fire Tower Challenge. As Fire Tower hikes go, this one is a nice one. It is well maintained (Both Trail and Tower) and it has 180 degree views. If you haven't spent much time in the area, I suggest you take the time to visit the VIC and if you paddle, Rich Lake!

nice narrow path through the woods. lots of mosquitoes. hike up could be rough but after that its nice. good views of the lake.

Four stars for the views from the ledge. Three stars for the trail, which is in dire need of maintenance in some sections (trail around the pond is way overgrown, many blown down trees across the trail in all sections). Easy, short hike, with great views. Really good "bang for the buck."
