Easy hike with beautiful views. Great for anyone.

Great hike! Definitely more than moderate because of the rock scrambles and elevation change all within about a mile. The 3.3 miles listed here is only to the FALSE SUMMIT. It’s closer to 4.4 miles round trip to the summit. If you haven’t seen the marker, you’re not to the summit yet! Take your time and enjoy the views!

Awesome trail! Really fun. If you do both Cascade and Porter it's actually 7.8 miles. My 8 year old collie did great and loved the trail. There are steep rocky surfaces so not all dogs may be able to make it, but there were a lot of dogs on the trail doing fine.

Porter is hella muddy but still lots of fun! Super dope to see the other hikers over on cascade before making it over there. Our border collie loved climbing the steep rocks

Well trafficked but worth the views. The rocks at the top of Cascade are awesome!

First peak for my boy! Beautiful day lots of sun and hikers and pooches.

It was a tough climb, but we had awesome views most of the way up, we also added RPR. Check out my full write up with pictures and things to look out for.

Go in the morning to avoid late walkers. Hiking poles will benefit but not essential. Great views.

This hike was amazing. It was only 1.8 or 2.0 miles and it only took an hour or a little bit more to hike. The views were amazing! Would totally recommend it!

Nice trails with breathtaking views. Going “over the nub” certainly blurs the line between hiking and rock climbing. All the other trails around Giant and Rocky Peak can be appreciated by all ages.

Great hike.the views from the top are awesome.

Not as easy as the local reviews say it is! Definitely a challenge, but so worth it!

Did it with my 4 and half year old daughter. The end of the trail is steep and combine with the half hour rain it will be an hard trip for my girl. We did it in aughust and we collected blueberry and raspberry. She did not like that the tower is close. Honestly, this hike was too hard for her. The last half on our way back she sleep in my arms. An apologyse father.

Great overall hike for some perfect views! Take this recommended Loop and you wont be disappointed. No part of this trail is too hard that a family cant do. We got to the top in 45min, & continued on to bushwack to Erebus (that takes some planning). Feel free to send me a message for best recommended route. Enjoy!

Fantastic trail. Hiked with 8 & 9 year old, they did great. Beautiful view.

This was an incredible hike! Great workout and spectacular views. At a brisk pace and with about 2 mi of trail running on the way back, it took us around 3 hours to get to the top of Peaked Mountain and back to the parking lot. Closer to 8 miles, not 6.2. If you’re planning to climb to the top and not turn around at the pond, know that the last section should be rated difficult and the hike overall is moderate not easy in my opinion.

Use the “short” at least for half the hike.

My son and I did Porter first, which was muddy in spots, but otherwise a really nice detour before going up Cascade. The views from Porter were better than expected. Cascade was spectacular! The rock scramble at the end was a good time. We stayed longer on Cascade, and had some food. The path from the trailhead is uphill from the start, with only a few very short level areas. It is also very rocky, and on the trek down this was a bit of a challenge. There were people of all ages and skill levels on the trial, and most people were very friendly and encouraging on the way up and down. The parking areas around the trailhead were packed by 10:00am, so get there early. We spent about 5 hrs on the trail, 4:19 minutes of actual hiking time. Two of my apps agreed on mileage, 7.1 for Cascade and Porter. Great hike and amazing views!

Great, steep hike, fun rock scramble at cascade, porter was super muddy

This is a great hike with a great view and fire tower at the top. Not too difficult for a Saranac 6 peak. Great trail and rewarding.

We had a great day to hike catamount. Perfect half day hike. Agree with Elocin the last .8 is challenging. But fun.

Always a favorite. Great with my kids. We went early to beat the crowds and was worth it.

All in all a beautiful hike. We stayed true to Cascade. If you are new to hiking ( like many we passed as we made our way down) preparation is key. It’s definitely a hike, not a stroll. Wear appropriate footwear! I’m incredibly proud of our 4.5 year old son who made it to the summit and back with no assistance. Took us 4 hours car to car, with a nice break at the top and a few on the way up. We cruised down with ease. Parking was not an issue for us as we arrived early enough. View at the top was beautiful.

Love this hike. Dislike the crowds.

hike was great,as were the views, but the fire tower was locked when we reached the summit at around 430pm. I would have given it 5 stars if it was open

The trail was clearly discernible and there were no bugs and not much mud. There was a view at the summit of approximately 40 degrees including Haystack, Marcy, and Algonquin. The trail became quite narrow at places--watch your eyes. It didn't seem too strenuous but it was challenging enough to be enjoyable. There were also some views on the descent. A nice one. Don't miss Indian Falls just beyond the turnoff--well worth the extra yards.

My husband, son and I hiked this trail up and back in 1.5 hours. Took the short trail up and long trail back. Small summit, but still beautiful. Our almost 5 year old had no issues at all navigating the climb. We avoided the crowds by starting out around 4PM on a Saturday. Nice hike overall. Enjoyed the quiet and views of the trail throughout.

Started out at 6a and enjoyed the early morning light and weather. The first part up to Bald Peak is challenging with some steeper stretches. The second part up to Rocky Peak was steeper and more difficult. Lots of blueberries along the path. No water source to use a filter bottle with.

Great great hike. Completed on 8/11. Pretty rocky on the way up (and down), but the views from Cascade are otherworldly and the rock scramble at the end is really fun. Lots and lots of people up there on a good weather Saturday. The trail to Porter was pretty muddy in places, but there are some nice, though less spectacular views at the top and along the way. Two of the 46 down!

Have not been up cascade in 10+ years so when I decided to make a trip up I made sure it was a Wednesday to avoid the crowds that clog up this trail on the weekends. Hit porter first so I could sit and enjoy myself longer on Cascade. View from Porter was pretty stellar. Took me about 20 mins to get to Porter from the trail junction and vice versa to get to cascade. Cascade summit is gorgeous with 360 degree views.
