was an amazing hike with awesome views and short enough for a quick afternoon

Easy hike, good views

Nice short and easy climb that offers some great views. Short trail is definitely steeper and more difficult than the long option, but offers some great views on the way up. Short trail was mildly challenging with snow and ice cover; I would definitely recommend descending on the long trail of snow and ice cover.

One of my favorite hikes in the adirondacks. Surrounded by high peaks, this is a beautiful and quick hike. Take the long trail for a more gradual incline, although personally I don’t find it much less steep than the short trail. On 12/10 the trail is completely covered in snow and ice, I wore spikes and had a pretty easy time. I’ve done this trail in all seasons and will always recommend to people who want to see the beauty of the higher peaks without having to climb them.

I'll continue the theme of 'spectacular' & 'stunning'! Today the trees were heavy snow covered and the firetower ice blasted. Come with some spikes, and be prepared for the firetower wind. Find yourself a clear morning & enjoy!

Spectacular hike! Snow covered trails and heavy snow and ice draped pine trees made this a winter wonderland... amazing views at the top ..makes for a terrific sunrise hike. Spikes are a must!

Hiked on November 3rd. Absolutely beautiful trail. A couple tricky mini scrambles, that would've been less tricky if they we're as wet and slippery. Views are amazing, as expected. A bit of snow closer to the top.

An exceptionally beautiful area and stunning views. The tower and summit were frozen and with ice along the upper parts of the trail on the rock scrambles, microspikes are a necessity. A great hike all around.

A great hike that would’ve been a lot easier had it not been for the frequent mud jumping. The views from the tower were stunning and I even saw a guy hiking in sandals

Snowy, muddy and slippery today but still a great hike. Gradual climb with lots of bridges and stairs.

The loop is relatively easy, with a short steep section up to the final .1 mile to the top. The final push to the summit has some challenging spots, but nothing impossible for the average climber. The view from the summit is amazing, and overlooks Blue Mountain Lake, Blue Mountain and nearby peaks. Very enjoyable.

Did goodnow today. Very nice hike. Fire tower was in good shape. Nice view :)

Great hike and great view but giving 4 stars because I don't think it was all that dog friendly towards the end. My dog and I hike a fair amount and run trails all summer too, so we are not inexperience.

It was much too cold to cross Lake Jimmy on the submerged planks so we took the nice little side trail around it. The first 40min or so were quite easy although a bit muddy. Snow appeared after that and then about 50min into the hike it got hard. Maybe the last half mile or so was scrambling up fairly steep rocks and my dog had a hard time figuring out where to go. We did make it up and I'd say it was worth it, but I'm not sure if I would do it again. I loved this hike! Did on 10./18, already snow covered. We were the only ones at the summit. Did the shorter way up and longer way down. Absolutely amazing views of the snow capped high peaks.

Beautiful hike to the top, light traffic

We took the short hike up which was quite steep and mostly jumping over the big rocks. Don’t recommend if it is icy or snowing, could be dangerous. View at the top was very nice.

Actually icy spots on the trail today. Time to start getting the winter gear in the pack. Very enjoyable hike. Some steeps but not too long. Great views from the tower. The communication towers nearby detract from the natural beauty although it is nice to have a signal.

I love trails like this. It's a rock scramble almost immediately. The boulders you're stepping on, over, and around act like a natural staircase.

The short trails is short and steep. Before long you're staring at Algonquin, Marcy, and a few other peaks, with Heart Lake shimmering directly below.

We took the short trail back down.

parking payant
belle randonnée
première partie difficile car le sentier est en roche , nous avons pris le chemin court. cela monte à pic.
si mal aux genoux ou autre... passez votre chemin.
peu de monde sur le sentier en septembre.
balisage moyen.

Great little hike, it won't take you all day which gives you time to explore Lake Placid and everything around it.

10/13/18 Trail was covered in the changing leafs but pretty easy to follow. The top of the tower was so beautiful. Saw a rainbow on the top! Must go for sure!

This was the 1st Fire Tower of the Fire Tower Challenge for my boy and I. He had just turned 5 when we did it, and he had no trouble.

Fairly short and has a fantastic view. I think i was lucky that this was the first mountain that we did, because he loved it, and it made him want to come back for more.

This was the 4th fire tower challenge for my 5 year old an I (brought the wife along on this one).

Day was wet, so that along with the leafs covered rocks and ankle breaker roots made for slow going. Took us 2h up and 1.5h down.

There is one section near the top where you enter an evergreen grove that is covered with hanging moss. The day we did it the mountain top was fogged in. When we entered this section my boy stopped us and said "it looks like we are on another planet". He was right.

The fire tower is super tall, unfortunately for us, we did it on peak color change, but had no view.

We will probably do this one again on our way to completing the fire tower challenge, just so we get to see the view.

Stunning views of the high peaks columbus day weekend, despite the clouds. Short trail is fun, lots of boulders and some scrambling, will get your heart pumping! Long trail is far easier on the ankles and not difficult.. Five or so other groups on the summit, but within 15 m i had it all to myself. Would definitely recommend. Took about 1h up, 35m down.

Short, easy hike to a fire tower. Goes uphill the entire way but it's not that far anyway so shouldn't be too much trouble for most people/animals (no scrambling).

We went on a Saturday around dusk hoping to catch the sunset, and expected it to be very crowded since it's only a short distance from Tupper Lake. Instead we had the place completely to ourselves, and got a stunning view of the sunset from the tower. I don't know if we just got lucky or if earlier rain had scared people off, but it was lovely. At the summit you won't get much of a view if you're not in the fire tower; there's one other small opening with a view close by, but otherwise the summit is surrounded by trees. So if it's super crowded in the parking lot, it might be rough going at the summit.

There was a cabin at the top that was locked, I don't know if that is open to public during the day.

Overall good effort-to-view hike assuming you're close by and it's not crowded.

Completed this one this summer and the views were great!

Really enjoyed this hike trail was peaceful and in very good condition. Great fall foliage and weather were a bonus.

After a week of rain, some muddy spots, but worth the hike to the summit! Beautiful fall colors! I would rate this easy, especially for someone who just got out of a boot for a broken ankle 4 weeks ago. I did this hike instead of Blue Mountain, and totally worth the view!!

What a view at the summit of Mount Jo!!! We took the short trail up and the long trail down. Took us about an hour each way. Just an FYII when you are coming down the long trail there is a spot where you will start to go up again it seems like you are on the wrong trail but keep going and it will start to go down again. Lots of rock scrambling and roots to climb over in the short trail.

Can’t wait to see this place in October
